ULPT: Need to get out of an expensive gym contract?
Posted by brainhack3r@reddit | UnethicalLifeProTips | View on Reddit | 51 comments
Just go up to random women, ask them to report you for harassment.
Be kind about it and say you want out of your gym contract immediately!
Just tell the you're sorry to bother them, ask them quickly, and if not, no problem!
Equinox has expensive contract terms and sometimes yearly contracts.
They might block you from the entire chain though.

"Violate" their policy by going into their facilities in the morning, showering, and then leaving, without actually working out/using the equipment.

HBThorburn@reddit
Don't forget to poop loudly beforehand.
mordecai98@reddit
In the shower.
adognameddanzig@reddit
Make sure to do the waffle stomp.
Katman666@reddit
Nah, leave it in the corner. You can waffle stomp at home.
Licky_Anus@reddit
I want to thank you guys for making my stoned self laugh pretty loudly.
Muted_Piccolo278@reddit
I'm not stoned but I laughed progressively harder with each response.
mordecai98@reddit
Did you stomp your feet while laughing? If so, you'll need to clean them.
brainhack3r@reddit (OP)
I think they use this to target homeless people that are a problem.
Not that it's actually used in practice.
Circular-ideation@reddit
IDK why folks wouldn’t rather have clean homeless people, particularly that are capable of paying for showers.
RipeBanana4475@reddit
Because homeless people destroy bathrooms. They do drugs, make a giant mess, and are sometimes a huge pain in the ass to others when you give them bathroom access.
And yes super downvote Reddit brigade, I'm generalizing. I don't care about your friend that fell on hard times that just needed a place to shower before their job interview, and then got their life back together.
metalflygon08@reddit
And if they were that person's friend, why not offer them their shower?
Circular-ideation@reddit
Anecdotally. Been a taxpayer, been homeless, shared couches several times over my lifetime so far, currently married to the last male couch surfer I housed.
“Be the change you want to see“ shouldn’t mean “knee-jerk vilify and punish entire groups based on the visible behaviors of the worst of them.”
Circular-ideation@reddit
Okay, generalizing then. Those are things housed users do, too, you just don’t have to look at it.
You’re so close to “getting it.” Even if you choose to vilify them, they need places to pursue hygiene. And if they’ve paid to do so, IMO that’s that. Me, I’m just gonna remember to spread the advice to go get a dumbbell, do one rep or whatever, then hit the shower. Or walk twenty seconds on the treadmill prior. Screw withholding purchased hygiene opportunities.

You can't go 10 words without tipping your hand. It's fine to call someone who doesn't have a physical address homeless. I'm sure that the super nice and respectful homeless person that you have in your head would probably have no issues, going in, doing a really quick set of curls, and hitting the shower would have no issues in the majority of gyms.
Yep, I plainly said that in my post. If you give 100 normal people bathroom access, they might make a mess, and it might be fine. If you give 100 homeless people free bathroom access to your bathroom, your janitor is probably going to think about quitting.
Circular-ideation@reddit
They are people. People aren’t perfect. Embittered people lash out like injured animals. Look at yourself.
Why generalize only the worst? Homeless people are also very quick to check on each other and to share food and beverages with each other. Try walking in their shoes instead of just pointing out the ones with holes. Disproportionately why? Do you even care if they had drug problems before landing on the street or whether street life led to dabbling? They need places to be and if they’re coherent enough to arrange a gym membership I don’t think they’re “the droids you’re looking for.”
banshithread@reddit
Why are you acting like the people they described dont exist? The reasons these policies are in place is because they've seen a certain group of people do this shit way more often than others.

I guess I don't know. But is this actually against some gyms' policies? I duck in to use my gym's shower all the time after work when I don't want to go all the way home, never had an issue doing so (though it's usually semi-busy when I go, so it's not like they notice/care).
10S_NE1@reddit
My elderly father-in-law had a lifetime gym membership (no fees for life after paying the one-time membership fee) and he went to the gym daily just to shower and get out of the house. He never used the equipment. I think that gym eventually cancelled all of those lifetime memberships, but they were a good deal at the time.
QualityKatie@reddit
Your gym is probably not a Planet Fitness.
Salt-Operation6199@reddit
Oh I don't know if it's against any policy, but I stumbled across a post a few days ago on another sub for a person getting a violation notice for doing exactly that, even though they were using these facilities for 20ish mins, outside peak hours.
ChefArtorias@reddit
Literally was about to comment this lmao
Ninjacakester@reddit
Yeah I was gonna say just go there to shower. Gyms hate homeless people and if they see you coming just to shower they’ll find a reason to get you out.
miraculum_one@reddit
Be forewarned that these guys are in the business of writing and enforcing binding contracts. If everybody who wanted to quit was able to get out of their contract they would go out of business. They have heard every excuse in the book and they're willing to go to court so whatever you do, you might want to make sure it's legal.
BBorNot@reddit
Just say you keep getting harassed in the showers.
ActiveExisting3016@reddit
They will just increase the gym rates because of a now necessary bathroom security detail
tgr3947@reddit
I got out of one by calling them while I was deployed. Had like 6 months left, and I was going to be gone like 7 months. I called them from overseas and told them and they cancelled it. You can also mention the soldiers and sailors relief act. It basically is a way to get out of anything contractually.
jayrady@reddit
It should be noted that attempting to invoke the soldiers and sailors relief act, when not, is illegal.
tgr3947@reddit
Stolen valor? How often do you see that one being prosecuted?
jayrady@reddit
Specifically as stolen valor, rarely.
Fraud however all the time.
lessthanhero32@reddit
Pee in the shower.
Or dont wipe down the equipment
Licky_Anus@reddit
It’s all pipes!
Ericw005@reddit
Instructions unclear, peed on the equipment. Task failed successfully though, no longer have a membership at that gym.
pl233@reddit
Nobody would know if you pee in private shower stalls, so leave the curtain open and point out your urination to people, to make sure they notice.
_iAm9001@reddit
You HOPE nobody would know. What if they do! Who do you sue? So much suing to be had!
ronm4c@reddit
Found the Seinfeld fan
LettuceWithBeetroot@reddit
Or just pee on the equipment and don't shower
megabummige@reddit
Fuckin nobody wipes equipment anymore at Chuze or Vasa. Commercial gyms are a disaster for etiquette.

Research where they have locations. Find out where they don’t have locations. Say youre moving to said place. Ex. Alaska.
They will want proof. Use photoshop skills to show proof. Out of contract.
pointofyou@reddit
You could also claim you've got to work abroad for an extended period, which would make it impossible for you to use their service. This is generally either considered in contracts or stipulated by consumer protection laws. A simple fake letter from some company will suffice. Works for phone contracts too.
VixenTraffic@reddit
I just told them I’m terminally ill.
Puceeffoc@reddit
Pro tip: "If you ask a woman to lie and tell gym management you're harassing her and she declines. Then you can actually keep pestering her until she tells management you're harassing her."
Win Win!
ih8javert@reddit
This guy harasses!
ReasonableAd1702@reddit
I was having a rough day and this exchange made me snort. Thank you both.
0hden@reddit
This is so funny. Now I'm wondering what else would work... Have someone provide a fake death certificate?
smithincanton@reddit
Have a friend bring in an urn with some wood ash. "This is Bob. He no longer needs your service." Bonus points if they stumble right before the counter and spill some ashes!
Glittering-Elk-8308@reddit
That's where I thought the ULPT was going to be.
DoubleBreastedBerb@reddit
I’ve gotten out of a gym contract by going on dialysis. 🤔
