I have a Polar screen free one, and it’s £149, no subscription.
Based on also wearing a watch, I’d say it’s really accurate at tracking my sleep, and it kicks in tracking my exercise at the right time!

Apple refurb store or if you know someone with Costco online membership it’s worth checking out

Fitbit inspire or charge. Pretty close to Apple for sleep tracking.
Check out The Quantified Scientist on YouTube.

Isn't the fitbit a monthly fee for more features?

You get 6 months free then reverts to the free version which is minus a few things that aren't really worth like exercises and meditation stuff. You still get sleep tracking, hrv, resting heart rate and more. 2 years with an inspire and no issues.

Ankle tracking works fine but you might have to buy a different strap depending on how thick your legs are! I'm a big runner and my watch definitely doesn't fit around my leg.
I use a Garmin which is very good and I find it's sleep tracking is on point. I think a Vivoactive 5 might be in budget - worth reading reviews as I've only used the running focused models which are usually more pricy.

Appreciate your help.

A Garmin absolutely won't accurately tell you the difference between when you were asleep and just lying there though.
I have a Forerunner 965 - so one of their premium models, but the last generation.
I will often lie there in bed, listening to an audiobook so I know for a fact I am not sleeping. However the watch will tell me that I was asleep, because I was stationary during the hours I have set as my bed time. It will even do the same if you're just sat very still whilst watching TV at that time.

I have a 955 and have genuinely never had it detect me as asleep when I'm not! Maybe I just don't lay still enough....!

Galaxy ring? Apparently is great for sleep tracking and everything else.

I have an Amazfit Hélio strap which costs about £100, with a battery life of 9-10 days and tracks sleep, heart rate, and you can buy a longer strap to wear it on the upper arm or eventually on your calf. It is a plain band, so all your interactions are via the App which works pretty well.

Can you please link me to this, Amazon just shows and empty band?
Thanks

My 5 year old Xiomi smart band still going strong. Does everything for a very reasonable price.

Have you considered an Oura ring (or similar)?

I have a Huawei gt5 (on sale on Amazon now when I went to check exact model I got)
Excellent battery life and has sleep tracking. Watch has excellent build quality and a great screen as well. The app is decent but not within Google play as it's Huawei so something to hear in mind

I have the Galaxy Smart Watch 7, and just purchased a 2nd on for my wife. I think it ticks all your boxes other than battery life. I have to charge every 2nd day I think, I just take it off while I'm sitting at work and charge for a bit so doesn't feel to bad.

"Our data so far tell us that these numbers coming off these devices are not that reliable at all"
You should be able to track steps on your phone by the way, but not heart rate constantly of course - but nor will a device made for your ankle do it very well either.
VolcanicBear@reddit
Yup, they're all pretty shit.
VolcanicBear@reddit
Most watches are pretty crap for sleep tracking.
I have a Garmin, my wife has a Fitbit and both clearly just make shit up. The Garmin is the worse of the two though.

I bought a garmin sq for about £150 4 years ago. Still works now, no issues with it and I wear mine doing underwater sports
icabod88@reddit
The Fit Bit line of watches are supposed to be pretty good for sleep tracking. I think that counting steps would still work if the watch was strapped to your ankle, but unsure about heart rate
