Hey everyone, so I’m on year three on trying to get my medical. Long story short I’m working at the moment and taking a break from college with plans to go back. I’m still doing flight school at a part 61, I’m not sure if it’s a good idea to get a degree at a university for professional flight because I’ve heard degrees will get you far but also I know some pilots who are doing well without those degrees. I rather go into a trade like becoming an Aircraft Mechanic. Issues is, is that most of these flight schools don’t allow you go work while you do flight training and I have stuff I have to pay for. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

What a shotgun blast of issues. Which one are you actually asking about?
Don't go to a school that has you so busy you can't work. Work pays the bills. For the rest of your life.
You don't have a medical. Don't waste money flying until you do.
Higher tier flying will require a degree. There are indeed pilots making decent money w/o a degree.
In aviation the question about a degree is yes/no. In the rest of the world the question about a degree is "is it relevant?" An aviation degree is a BS for a reason. It has no value as a "Plan B" for anything outside aviation. It will never be relevant.
There is a need for talented A&P mechanics.
If you are three years into pursuing a medical then you need 1) a better plan, 2) a better AME, 3) more money, or 4) to just move on.

There’s not much sense doing anything unless you can get a medical. Get that before you commit to more training and especially before you pursue an aviation degree.
You also don’t need an aviation degree. A degree is going to be necessary to get hired at an airline, but it doesn’t need to be aviation related. Pursue a backup degree that you’re interested in outside aviation in case flying doesn’t work out or you lose/can’t obtain a medical.
And find a school that will allow you to work while you do your training.
