What is the beauty standard in your area?

Suppafly@reddit
There isn't one single beauty standard.
Red_Beard_Rising@reddit
Whatever it is, I am not it and I'm OK with that.
Asparagus9000@reddit
Even just in my town there isn't one consistent one.
theEWDSDS@reddit
Considering the number of immigrants we have here (and their diversity) it really just depends on taste
TheBimpo@reddit
People might put on their good jeans to go to the one decent restaurant in the area. It’s a rural lake town, no one gives a damn about looks.
Fappy_as_a_Clam@reddit
I put on my nice hoodie and clip in my goin' out pocket knife.
My wife wears heels, then I like to think everyone looks at us and wonders how I got her lol
Busy-Claim6797@reddit
In Chicago it varies a lot, but i think we're more casual than other big cities.
Since its freezing half the time here, thick, comfy clothes and big jackets are the norm.
I guess Athaleisure and Business Casual are more favorable fashions here.

When I lived in Texas: fake blonde, spray tan, southern belle
In colorado: No makeup, hiking clothes, very thin
No-Equivalent2621@reddit (OP)
No makeup is intresting huh
JimBones31@reddit
Why do you say that?
No-Equivalent2621@reddit (OP)
I was just curious?
cfbluvr@reddit
nothing wrong with what you’ve said op
No-Equivalent2621@reddit (OP)
Yeah idk why i got downvoted
JimBones31@reddit
You seemed incredulous.
bouquetofashes@reddit
I dunno that I'd go as far as very thin, unless you're talking about a certain subset of fairly hardcore climbers, but it's probably smaller than the average.
uptiedand8@reddit
Only visited Colorado once but I have always heard that extreme thinness is a huge part of the local beauty standard. Interesting that continues to this day. It was universal 20 years ago for sure but it seems almost counter cultural at this point, at least for a city with no fashion/modeling industry and that seems super focused on athleticism and outdoor activities.
huazzy@reddit
The Colorado one is very strange to me as I saw that transformation with a cousin of mine who moved there.
Like she perpetually started wearing those hiking headbands.
Heyya14@reddit
I can definitely second the Texas one lol
ALoungerAtTheClubs@reddit
I think the most surreal part of visiting Colorado for me was seeing people dressed like they were about to go hiking any second - even they obviously weren't.
I suppose it's analogous to wearing beachy clothes in a coastal area, but that's much more familiar to me.
natnat1919@reddit
California: thin, but fit, tan, minimal makeup (for women). Area that’s (I guess) considered a beach town, Southern California.
smcl2k@reddit
You mean Orange County, right...? 😂
tsukiii@reddit
I don’t know where they’re from, but it fits San Diego. Not much flashy makeup/hair/clothes, but you’ve gotta look like you work out.
smcl2k@reddit
I don't think you can class 1 of the biggest cities in the country as a "beach town", though. Plus that very specific list of criteria doesn't really fit somewhere that's less than 50% white.
It might work for Coronado, but I feel like most of the women there are very flashy (and pretty old).
natnat1919@reddit
My city is 47% white
smcl2k@reddit
Sounds like you described a very specific beauty standard that likely doesn't apply to most of the population 🤷🏻♂️
-Boston-Terrier-@reddit
Pretty much me.
ExternalTelevision75@reddit
Having good hygiene is both regional and worldwide
FemboyEngineer@reddit
Impossibly pretty Korean women
Immediate-Doubt-4918@reddit
Semi-rural Kansas here…
Men: Tall, dad bod or super skinny with farmer strength, good jawline, light facial hair and mustache
Women: Fit, blonde, “trad” (🤮), light makeup
That’s just what I’ve noticed.
sadthrow104@reddit
Such a a large country it’s hard to say. In my desert southwest city we have so many ‘internal’ immigrants (as well as our fair share of foreign immigrants) and transplants that it’s all over the place. A lot of the people are typical walking heart attacks you see in Walmart photos but also lots of very outdoorsy types. Really depends on the circle, class, part of town etc
Ok_Gas5386@reddit
I’d say it depends more on your cultural grouping than your geography.
gardengrowsgreen@reddit
I don’t think there’s a standard anywhere. In Utah the stereotypes are either TikTok trendy, real housewives, or some mix of athletic/outdoorsy/western. In my circles I mostly see the outdoorsy vibe.
Justthetip74@reddit
BMI relatively equal to the partner you're trying to date. Women get more leeway than men
pawsplay36@reddit
I live in Albuquerque, there is no straightforward answer. There are people here who still dress like Selena and apparently that is very in. But there are also lots of women with bangs wearing scarves and light ponchos, so.
smcl2k@reddit
Unless you happen to live in an ethnically-homogenous enclave, there's not going to be anything close to a single "beauty standard".
Tankieforever@reddit
Just wear black and gold and you’ll be fine.
TheLastCoagulant@reddit
You mean blue and white?
Smart_Engine_3331@reddit
It really varies. I'm not sure how to answer that.
New-Process-52@reddit
Yes
