What firearm related stuff are you nostalgic for? Stuff that really brings back memories.

I'm older. I've got a long list but I'll share it with you. I know some of you guys probably feel the same way.
I remember when a Glocks were new and nobody liked them lol. My first handgun was a Glock 17 and that was back when people thought they were plastic, Tupperware junk LOL.
I thought Talon grips were a big game changer and I started using them the first year they come out. Still love the company to this day. The grips they started with were a little different than the ones they have today. Just cut out pieces of sandpaper grip. They didn't wrap around like they do now.
Alien gear holsters. I was probably one of their first customers. They've expanded their line so much and I see them in all kinds of sporting good stores now even though they used to be a very small company.
What about you guys?

i’m nostalgic on powder prices

Going down to the dump and shooting can and bottles. That was the place every went to plink, with whatever gun they had, usually every gun they had. Back before ranges were popular and indoor ranges were invented.

Cheaper than dirt paper magazine with SKSs for $59.99
Low-Landscape-4609@reddit (OP)
Oh yeah. I used to order ammo from cheaper than dirt like crazy. Really miss the days of cheap ammunition. Now, you don't even really need to shop around because most places have the same price.
Now, back when I was a kid, you could get an SKS easily for around $350.
MachineProof5438@reddit
I bought my first sks for $99
Ok-Return7750@reddit
I purchased a lot of ammo back in the mid nineties that I still haven’t fired. I have probably 40,000 to 50,000 rounds of ammo stored away.
Including 10 of these 1000 round crates of surplus 5.56 ammo.
3000 rounds of Federal Gold Medal 308
2000 rounds of Federal 9mm 147 grain Hydra Shok
Low-Landscape-4609@reddit (OP)
I'm the opposite of you. I should competitively. I keep roughly 10,000 rounds at the house but I shoot a thousand rounds a month. The only reason I keep 10,000 rounds on hand is in case there's panic buying going on. That way I can still go to matches and train.
I just cycle out the old and put in the new.
Hamsammich0520@reddit
I remember in the 90s, my old man ordered a crate of sks’s for his gun shop. I think he paid $35 per rifle. I’ll never forget the smell, helping him unpack and clean all the cosmoline off of them.

The time before the NFA.
Low-Landscape-4609@reddit (OP)
The furthest back that I can remember is the assault weapons ban. To be honest though, people mostly fussed about it but it was a minor inconvenience. You can still get what you wanted you just couldn't get it new.
slk28850@reddit
We're living with the build up of gun laws that are "only minor inconveniences "
Low-Landscape-4609@reddit (OP)
You can say that but in my state, it's gotten way better than it used to be. There was no concealed Carry permits in Kentucky when I was growing up in the 90s. Now we have constitutional carry. You can pretty much own what you want. Not to mention, Kentucky has some of the best self-defense laws out there.
Call me old but the scare tactics just don't work for me anymore. I saw things get a lot better over the years, not worse regarding gun laws. There's always fear monitoring but from the 80s until now, people can own way more stuff than they were allowed to have back then.
slk28850@reddit
Things are pretty good in Alaska too but they tried passing red flag laws here. Look what is happening in Virginia. We're always one election away from backsliding.
Low-Landscape-4609@reddit (OP)
Well case in point, Virginia has always been a mess. This is nothing new. I live right next to them and I'm literally 10 minutes from the state line. They've been going on with nonsense like that since as long as I can remember. Only difference is, it's a big topic of discussion now.
Here's another important thing to remember as well. A lot of times if you actually read through bills, when something new passes, it usually isn't even enforceable. That's what happened with the 94 assault weapons ban. Kentucky didn't pass any new laws therefore, the cops couldn't enforce anything. The ATF could but those guys are sitting in offices at the federal courthouse. Not patrolling the streets.
slk28850@reddit
Didn't save Bryan Melinowski. On principle anything after the 2A is an infringement and I oppose it. Minor inconvenience or not.
Low-Landscape-4609@reddit (OP)
That was an odd case to bring up. If you actually know the details of that case, he was suspected of buying and selling a Firearms at gun shows to convicted felons.
Yeah, if you just read the second amendment news it looks like he was a good old boy just making some money at gun shows but why did 15 or so if his guns end up at crime scenes?
slk28850@reddit
Are you claiming he knowingly sold to felons or prohibited persons? Either way you shouldn't have to have an FFL to run a gun store but to my point it is a gun law that has been added to the pile of federal, state and local laws over the course of the country.
Low-Landscape-4609@reddit (OP)
I'm going to have to disagree with you on that one. I do believe you should have to have an FFL to sell guns. Why? The number one reason guns get in the hands of criminals is straw purchasing.
I spent my career as a police officer and I was big of a second I'm in my advocate is anybody but every single gun that was used for murders and things of that nature was straw purchased.

Gun shows :(
Low-Landscape-4609@reddit (OP)
I live in kentucky. We still have them but they're just not as good as they used to be. With the days of the internet, it's hard to find good deals. People try to price things to get as much money as they can and they can just look up the value.
Chrisscott25@reddit
Also from Ky and exactly the same experience. The last one I went to was several years ago and dude was selling Anderson ar’s for right at $700 a piece. Every other booth was just as bad. I don’t think I witnessed one firearm sale. I bought a knife and still overpaid a bit but it was the exact knife my granola used to carry and I’ve had a hard time finding one. I’m in ne ky and have found a few good deals in Ohio at different trade events and things. Idk what happened in Ky when I was younger I was always finding deals here.

I want Beretta to bring back the 1934/1935 in stainless, just like the OG models… just in stainless… none of this “X” bullshit they’ve been doing.

Going to a gun show with $500 and leaving with 5 Mosin Nagants and some accessories.
We armed the whole crew back in the day this way.
mattmagnum11@reddit
Sub 100 dollar mosins. Shit, even sub $300 mosins at this point.
SirEagle60@reddit
Was cool back in the day to go hunting after school let out. I would go home get my shotgun, walk about 2 mi to my buddy's house, he would grab his shotgun, and we would walk up some railroad tracks for a mile or so to our favorite spots. Might get some rabbits, squirrels, pheasant, etc.
Hamsammich0520@reddit
Love my alien gear holster! Got it in 2020! Modular, easy to switch iwb/owb, and comfortable. Also talon grips. I bought a used Canik TP9SF that had some on it, immediately put some on a couple other full size handguns. They WORK!

Gun shows before they turned into wall to wall overpriced "custom" ARs, flavor of the week guns and whatever flea market garbage someone trucked in.

Colt revolvers in Royal Blue.
They were freakin beautiful.
allisayisbeautiful@reddit
10/22. My first rifle. It came with an awesome blue stock. I have most peoples dream guns, but my favorite is still the ruger. Its just so fun.
Low-Landscape-4609@reddit (OP)
My first rifle was a Ruger '96/22. Do you remember those? It was basically a liver action 10/22.
allisayisbeautiful@reddit
Sounds like something before my time. Sounds really fun though.
Low-Landscape-4609@reddit (OP)
Yep. They also made one in 45 caliber as well. Only saw a few of those in person but I always wanted one. It must not have been very popular because they weren't around long.

Zombie ammo. The high road.
Low-Landscape-4609@reddit (OP)
Man, I forgot about the high road. I used to come across it doing internet searches years ago.
I do remember the big zombie craze and the green zombie lol.
