Title: PC random black screen shutdowns (no BSOD) – likely GPU? Need second opinion
Hi, I’m having persistent random shutdowns and I’m running out of ideas. I’d really appreciate a second opinion before I RMA my GPU.
Specs:
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7500F
- Motherboard: MSI B650 Gaming Plus WiFi
- GPU: PowerColor RX 9060 XT Hellhound 16GB
- RAM: 16GB DDR5 (tested at 4800 and 4400, no EXPO)
- PSU: MSI A850GL 850W Gold (recently upgraded from 550W)
- OS: Windows 11
Problem:
- PC randomly goes black screen and instantly restarts
- No BSOD, no warning
- Sometimes a short “chirp” sound before crash (not always)
- Happens mostly when launching or playing games (LoL, GTA V)
- Sometimes within 30 seconds, sometimes after \~1 hour
Event Viewer errors:
- “The server did not register with DCOM within the required timeout”
- “Error creating dump file / BugCheckProgress 0x00020020”
- “Dump file initialization failed”
What I’ve already tried:
- Switched PSU (550W → 850W)
- Updated BIOS to latest
- Disabled EXPO, lowered RAM to 4800 and even 4400
- Tested RAM (no errors)
- Set PCIe from Gen4 → Gen3 (seemed slightly more stable but still crashes)
- Lowered SoC Voltage from \~1.256V to 1.20V (crashes take longer but still happen)
- Temps are fine (CPU/GPU under \~60°C)
- Reinstalled GPU drivers
- Checked cables and connections
Current behavior:
- System is more stable than before, but still crashes eventually
- Now it can last up to \~1 hour before black screen reboot
My suspicion:
At this point I’m thinking it’s a faulty or unstable GPU, since:
- crashes are under GPU load
- no BSOD (system dies too fast)
- dump files fail to generate
- PSU and RAM already ruled out
Question:
Does this look like a GPU hardware issue to you, or is there anything else I should test before RMA?
Thanks in advance 🙏

Hi! Have you ever tried using DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller)? Also, what happens when you run a stress test like Furmark or OCCT on the GPU?
