anyone ever successfully changed their dominate eye?

I live in the hell of being right handed but left hand dominate. I see conflicting info about it being possible to change your dominate eye. has anyone ever achieved this? (without just having to wear a blurred lens when shooting)

Yes. It took some time, but with practice switching eyes I became neither eye dominant, which is handy today as I now have mono vision after cataract surgery. Left eye is close-up. Right eye is distance. My eyes switch automatically.

how did you do it?

Alterately close one eye. Back and forth while watching something. Anything. A light switch. Anything. Pretty soon you'll be able to see with either eye and the object won't jump.

im gonna try wearing a eyepatch when at home. i really hope it works

Sure! Why not. It'll get you used to focusing on that eye.

I am the same. I haven't tried to "switch" the dominant eye, but I do my best to train. For the most part, (after lots of training) my right eye is focused, but sometimes it shifts to left eye focus. This is more common when moving between targets quickly. When that happens, i close/squint the left eye real quick and that usually gets it back to right eye focus. This is a constant struggle, and it sucks. I don't know if there are any tricks, besides training a lot.

yea i can get my right eye to focus if i close my left eye and slowly open my right but it switches as soon as i stop focusing on the front sight. i have read that if you wear an eyepatch for awhile you can train your eye dominance. im going to try this for awhile and see what happens.

I'll try the eye patch or blacked out left lens on the glasses. Sounds like it could help.

No you cant change what eye is dominant. Iv never used my dominant eye to shoot and my left eye is still dominant.

I’m left eye dominant and right handed, but I haven’t had any issues. Red dots are easy to use cause you just shoot with both eyes open, and I’ve gotten used to scopes. Still have to close my eyes to reset every few minutes looking through one, but it’s not too much of a hassle

Was cross dominant. Can use either eye now. Take some scotch tape and put on the safety glasses on the side you don't want to see out of. Both eyes open even with the tape it helps to see periphery. I prob went to range average of 3 or so days a week for several months before removing the tape. Joined a club so it was pretty cheap. Now with a slight stance change I can use either eye. With all that practice I'm a pretty good shot now too and typically practice at 25 yards with 6" steel target. It's been about 15 years since I trained the other eye.

For pistols, yes. For rifles, no.
I’m right handed/left eye dominant. Learned to shoot with my right eye as a kid. Always sucked with pistols.
Did the invisible hand test after a few year shooting hiatus and learned I was left eye dominant. I completely re-learned how to shoot pistols right handed with my left eye. I ignored everything when it came to rifle shooting and now I usually just close my left eye to shoot rifles accurately.

Yep. I did it for fun as well. I'll tell you the story.
Long story short, I worked as a department Firearms instructor so I was always going to training classes, shooting, practicing etc. The only thing I kind of sucked at was we can shooting so I decided I was going to dedicate some time to shooting the other way.
Didn't really take that long and it wasn't that hard. I can now shoot with both my left and right hand more proficient than most people. It was literally something I done for fun and just out of boredom.

how did you do it? got any tips?
Low-Landscape-4609@reddit
Wasn't really that hard to be honest. I just started going to the range for around a month and using my opposite side.
As a matter of fact, it started confusing me because sometimes I would go to shoot left-handed and point towards my right eye and vice versa lol.
Keep in mind though, I learned how to shoot from an early age with both eyes open so I never closed my eyes while shooting. I grew up shooting skeet so did not train that way.

Yeah unintentionally. I use my right eye at work so now I’m right eyed. Sucks
myroll22@reddit
No I just got used to it

Practice both eyes and both hands until the difference doesn't matter.
