Reached my limit, what's yours?

I never thought Id get to this point but I really have no patience anymore - everything and everyone sucks! Here's what's pissing me off today as a 54 yo GenX:
- Only way to reach my bookkeeper is a chatbot that takes days to respond. Tallk to a human? Now scheduling 4 weeks out
- Everyone in my neighborhood has multiple Student Driver stickers on their cars. They think it gives them an insurance discount and excuses them for driving under the speed limit.
- Still can't reliably make a clear sounding phone call in a major 5G city.
- Im beat down by my girlfriend of 10 years and I dont know why.
- Entering passwords on Roku
What's aggravating you these days..???

My brother, or sister, I tell you this with all the love I have. You need to chill. Yeah, some shit is annoying. Yes, people are fucking stupid, but stop letting all of that noise ruin your life. We only get one trip on this rock, and it can be hard as hell at times. No sense letting stupid shit make it harder. I had a heart attack 7 years ago. Since then, the amount of things I let get to me has decreased significantly. Now that’s not to say that fucking tech that doesn’t work well doesn’t make me want to toss my $1200 phone against a wall, or some asshat in traffic doesn’t make me shake my head, but man, most of the shit is so small in the end.
Do you like yourself? Do you have people that love you? If yes to both, everything else is just noise.

FUCKING. FACTS. Damn I needed that reminder tonight. I love who I am at age 48. And I’ve got a partner who loves me so much she’d take bullets for me dozens of times over.
Everything else is noise. Life is good. Thanks for the reminder.

Also phone calls sound like crap for technical reasons. We prioritize “connected” over “quality audio” because consumers barely talk on phones so audio quality is low and as a customer base we’ve accepted it

There’s a lot I could complain about, but really there’s just one issue that really puzzles me: how the fuck could any person who lived through the 1980s and 1990s vote for the current president, whose name I will not utter here.
Were they completely under a rock and somehow missed seeing how he was thoroughly corrupt before he got into politics? Did they go with “evil, fuck yeah!”? Were they just really, really goddamn stupid? Did no one read Doonesbury, or even Bloom County??!!
The mind boggles.

Well this is literally the biggest one of all, isn’t it? Not sure about elsewhere but in the IK we have an official term “the working poor”, which is a large section of the public that are working but still below the poverty line. The fact that house prices and rents have increased over the last couple of decades far beyond the raise in wages is a large cause.
That’s my main one. I have so many but I’ve reached the point where I try to just float through it (I can’t but I try). I feel like I should be like William Holden in Network but I don’t have the energy or the fight anymore.

I'm trying to explain this to my 8yo currently. It's infuriating that I need to be nickel and dimed to death just to watch TV or listen to music. The thing that pisses me off the most is I can't have the same show on in two rooms at the same fucking time. Hell, I can't even get my supposedly connected speakers to stream the same music for more than a minute half the time. How is this better than broadcasts?

And I don’t need a computer in the dash of my car. I really don’t. Had it almost a year and still haven’t watched the tutorial on the thumb drive they gave me.
Mostly_Nohohon@reddit
A friend of mine got a new truck recently. And the screen was the size of a large tablet. And most of the time it was either a picture of the type truck she had or what station she was listening to on the radio. Why do you need to see a picture of the truck you are actually in... or the call sign of the radio station in a 10 inch color display? I "might" like it for GPS but she hasn't even figured out how to do that... or anything else on it for that matter. She didn't even know how to chnage the radio station.
I guess you get used to it but at night the screen just annoyed me and I wasn't even the one driving. I don't have a screen in my vehicle and I actually keep the dashboard on the lowest setting because I think I see better driving at night. And I actually like tech... But I do not need it in my vehicle.

So I am now in my 16th year of working at a call centre as a banking advisor. I knew when I took the job that it would be quite different than my past experiences in customer service, retail, etc., because a huge chunk of the people calling are going to need help for one reason or another.
So for most of those years I have been successful to not let it convince me that the average banking customer is dumb. If a certain percentage of people didn’t need help figuring things out, I wouldn’t have a job. But it’s getting harder and harder to keep that positive attitude.
Me. Hello, Mr. Client, how can I help you today?
Client. Yes, I was wondering if I could order some copies of my statement.
Me. Certainly, I’ll be happy to get those sent out to you. Now, normally it takes about two weeks for them to arrive in the mail.
Client. (Angry voice) Ummm, why can’t you just email them to me?
Me. Opens profile, sees: electronic statements. Enrolled in online banking. Does transfer between their own accounts through online banking history. Has the mobile-only bank account.
Me. So you want me to email them to you so that you can sign into your computer to open your email on a computer where you normally do your banking, on that computer?
Client. Silence an uncomfortable amount of silence….. yes
Me, realizing that being passive-aggressive isn’t going to work this time.
Me. (Sighs) Well, Mr. Client, I have good news……..
Repeat similar conversations 10 times in a day, 5 days a week.
So all of that irritation keeps building and building…
But then along comes a client who truly doesn’t understand something. Someone who’s genuinely stuck, who is completely floored that I was able to show them how to do what they needed or fix what went wrong.
Then they shower me with praise… and all that resentment fades away… making me feel a little guilty about feeling that way.
lovemesomezombie@reddit

Me: So you're not going to take your medicine tonight.
Patient: I didn't say that!!!!!

Mrs. Client: “Are you real?” (angry voice)
Me: ( in a passive-aggressive voice, because this is literally the hundredth time I’ve had to say this over the last five days)
Me: “No, I am not AI Mrs. Client, I’m just articulate.”
Mrs. Client: doesn’t even notice, and sighs in relief that I am real.
Me: (the passive aggressiveness building up in my gut starts to fade away, decides to make the client laugh)
Me: “At least I think I am not AI???”
Mrs Client: laughs at that lame joke like I am Richard Pryor in his prime. Blissfully unaware she is now the 700th person I have said that too

I broke early last year. Everything was pissing me off. I was so angry about everything and everyone. I started going to this Buddhist temple and learned to meditate. I started letting things go that I can’t control. I started cutting people out of my life who I felt anxious or angry around. I started finding places and people to help. I started listening more and talking less. My diet changed. Everything is different now. I don’t get angry in traffic, and that’s my biggest sign that things have drastically improved.
Lubeislove@reddit
The whole not getting angry at traffic is a wild experience. Visited my family and my dad, mom, and younger sister were rabid at vehicles just existing every time they drove. It’s a whole new life when you give that up. Good for you!

When I moved from a small town in the Midwest to Bayside Queens in NYC, my road rage absolutely hit some kind of event horozon and winked out. It's gone. Advertisements for Online gambling. They’re a pox upon society.
ForwardCulture@reddit
My theory is you can sort of tell the quality of general society by the overall quality advertising. We went from memorable ads that were full on productions mixed with some lesser stuff. To every as being mediocre, loud, bad sound effects, gambling ads, ads for bottom of the barrel cheap products and scams etc.
YouTube without a subscription is completely unusable. The worst and most frequent ads. For things unrelated to anything you even looked at. Nothing like listening to a normal podcast via YouTube in your car with your elderly mom next to you and suddenly a super loud ad for erection pills comes on randomly.
All these ads are so extremely low quality. Random “influencers” holding a phone while shouting the ad, all the gambling and betting ads are completely out of control. But it is a sign of how bad general American society is. It’s a dying society.

Astronaut6735@reddit
Small appliance worked perfectly well for me for a decade. Tested before selling. Packaged extremely well. They claim an electrical issue, and want partial refund to cover the part (costing 40% of the selling price!) they already bought to fix it. I offer a return instead, and they decide to keep it. Ten hours later they claim one of the parts is crushed, and ask for a partial refund to cover replacing the part (again, 45% of the selling price). I again offer a return. Haven't heard back. Sorry, but this is a high quality item that was very well packed, you claim an electrical issue that you diagnose yourself and order a part before contacting me, then it takes you ten more hours to discover a large part is crushed? And in both cases you want partial refunds instead of returning it? I don't buy it! When I buy something I first look at all the parts I was sent, put it together, and try it out. If the thing didn't work and had broken parts I'd initiate a return through eBay.

What *is* the deal with people driving so slow these days? Do they not have any desire to get to their destinations??
Imisssizzler@reddit
I think it’s either texting or they are high
WimpyZombie@reddit
I think it’s because their insurance company gives them a discount if they download an app that lets them be monitored for speeding and such. But if they are caught speeding too much, they’re afraid their rate will go up. My insurance offered it to me…I don’t know if I want to try it yet. I drive over the speed limit most of the time and hardly ever notice. I’ve only ever had one speeding ticket and that was in 1989.
ForwardCulture@reddit
I live a few blocks from a local highway with a 55mph speed limit. When I enter this highway daily, at times with no traffic, everyone is going 15-20 under the limit. It’s mostly the same make of car also (Tesla, cough cough, Tesla). The people behind the wheel look terrified or spaced out. It’s a rolling roadblock of these people blocking every lane the entire time I need to get anywhere.
jediHoo@reddit
Also 54 here and parent of a teenager who’s learning how to drive. Those student driver stickers aren’t to get a discount on insurance or to use as an excuse for driving under the speed limit. They’re to let other drivers know why they might not be driving as expeditiously as you and to give them some grace. My poor kid was totally freaked out by an aggressive driver when she was first learning all because she actually came to a complete stop at a red light and wasn’t turning right on red. He was blasting his horn at her and acting like an asshole. So yeah, if you see one of those stickers, don’t be a dick.
Southernms@reddit
I had no drivers ed, no student driver paraphernalia. My parents took me to a big parking lot a few times and I was good to go. They would let me drive part of the way home from the store starting around age 14. Please teach your child he be a defensive driver.
Nobody here reads number stickers. We have these.
jediHoo@reddit
You had more than I did. My mom didn’t own a car. So all the driving time I got was during drivers Ed class at school, which wasn’t much. I borrowed my friend’s older sister’s car to take my test.
The experience I mentioned above was her first time going on the road in my car. She’s much more confident now, but she’s still learning. No need to read the sticker on the car—they’re pretty obvious and easily recognizable for what they are.
errie_tholluxe@reddit
That may be your experience, but when I'm being passed by someone who's doing 75 and 55 and looks as if they are 60 or 65. I don't think they're a fucking student driver anymore.
And I see multiples of these everyday during rush hour, which is definitely not a time when you would actually see some poor kid learning how to drive as a student
jediHoo@reddit
Do you expect parents to remove the sticker any time their kid isn’t the one actually driving? 🙄
errie_tholluxe@reddit
I suspect that people in their '60s aren't having kids who are just now learning how to drive. Who are just now learning how to drive? At least not in the sheer amount of volume that I see them in St. Louis
jediHoo@reddit
Tell that to my 64 year old husband. 😂
errie_tholluxe@reddit
One does not make all.
At this point it's beginning to be a fashion statement
jrsixx@reddit
I agree with both of you. As the dad of a just turned 16 yr old, I hated those stickers…until he started driving. Then I loved the thought that they extended even a little grace in case he made any new driver mistakes. That said, people really need to pull them if their kids aren’t driving. They really seem to be more of a “sorry I suck at driving, but I’ll pretend to be new for a little bit of a pass” than an actual new driver warning.
jediHoo@reddit
It would be ridiculous to remove them every time you switch drivers.
SushiGirlRC@reddit
Don't forget the adults driving by themselves. Sure they may have a kid learning to drive that car sometimes, but I have my doubts when I see the same ones in my commute traffic daily...

They recently did this at work - moved everything we need on a daily basis to one location and then set up a mastersheet that we are supposed to be able to access them from.
Problem is they didn't use the existing document names on the mastersheet so you have to click several links before you land on the right spreadsheet.
By chance I happened to find where they have stored all the documents and I can get to everything I need much faster that way as the sub-folders all have the names we were used to before they moved everything.
Also means I don't need to load Sharepoint and then navigate to the damn mastersheet.

The practice called me and said they can’t email the letter to me after he signed it and I have to pick it up in person. The nurse on the phone said she would leave it at the front desk. Ok, I drive 20 minutes out of my way after work to the practice. The nurse failed to mention that the practice is spread out among 4 huge buildings. I go to the main building and wait in line behind 25 other people for an eternity before reaching the front desk. The nurse at the desk has no clue what I’m talking about and can’t find the letter. She finally directs me to another building and I walk there. The nurse at this second building treats me with total suspicion and makes me verify my identity 3 different ways until she is satisfied, I take the letter home and discover that the doctor failed to fill out some mandatory information. Now I have to start all over again.

At nearly 56, I’m approaching a zen point of life where I don’t let any of the bothersome little shit bother me anymore. Unless it’s someone driving like an asshole. Then all bets are off.

My limit this week was two-factor authentication by email that takes 10 minutes to arrive. By the time it arrives I've completely forgotten that I was trying to log in.
Way to go, Quest!!
DustOffTheDemons@reddit
Yes. This one too. I have an app that takes well over 15 minutes to get the code and by the time you get it expired.
Lthrr9@reddit
If I wanted two-factor authentication, I’d ask for it.

My property tax reassessment just arrived. That has me fuming and ready to sell my house. Can’t even afford a house anymore…
Alot2unpack@reddit
This! Mine came last month or something in that timeframe. I paid cash for my house in 2019. $170,000. Now they decide it’s $317,000. That’d be great if my home was up for sale. But it’s not. I just gotta pay more property tax and they’re extending the runway on a nearby (two miles away) airport. So it’s just gonna get louder and more expensive to live here. Yay!
jawshoeaw@reddit
Now scale that up to a high cost of living city, my $600k house is $1.5 million allegedly. So my mortgage payment is 35% property tax
roxywalker@reddit
Yep. Mine was $250k eight years ago and now its at $497k 🤯! And, coincidentally, they are building a mega school right up road. Now that my kids are grown and done with the school district I am in no mood to subsidize it. So over it.😤

My phone says I need to update my Microsoft Outlook password on my phone. The. I have to do 10. TEN puzzles to prove I’m not a robot. I gave up and I’ll try when I’m in a better mood.

I know. Is that little picture of chrome a motorcycle? And is that little red dot part of a stop sign. Always me, failing multiple times at which part is the bicycle 😬

Finally got paid for a side job I did while unemployed. Took the check to Wells Farge since that is where the check was drawn from.
I don’t have an account there and couldn’t wait for the 5 business days for it to clear my account.
Wells Fargo charged me a $10 fee for cashing THEIR CHECK! They didn’t even tell me. The teller just smiled and asked if I wanted the receipt put in the envelope with the cash.
DustOffTheDemons@reddit
Wells Fargo is a scammy bank.

I’m laughing at the Student Driver stickers.
I’ve seen old people with old peeling stickers and wondering wtf.
ZebraBorgata@reddit
lol, I’ve seen those stickers on cars where I’m fairly certain there is no student driver. I always assumed it was a warning to other drivers you’re a shithead who will likely piss people off with crappy driving skills.

I was suppose to get a package yesterday but for some reason it didnt deliver and when i checked the tracking it said animal hazard. Yes my neighbors dog roams free, its been like that for the past 10 years. Never really had a problem. I call the post office and they said they have descretion and im like so theres nothing they can do, like honk the horn and get me to go out to get it? So today i put a sign on the mail box to just leave the box under the mail box on the sidewalk. I'm home, its a small town, roaming dog so nobodys gonna come steal it and the mail person was confused why i want it there. Well cause yesterday whoever was delivering didnt deliver and i kinda want my package! I think im just gonna have it sent to work from now on since its more reliable!

For me it's mostly traffic. I don't want to call it road rage. I don't WANT to call it that... but it's pretty much road rage.
A sorta vehicular version of refusing to suffer fools gladly. Especially some knob who parks his slow ass in the passing lane and refuses to keep pace with traffic. No, pal. This wasn't just a neato lane for slow asses, it's meant for people who want to get by.
It's to the point where if you even want to approach the speed limit here you must be in the passing lane. And it never fails, there's always that one jackass. Ugh. Bro is lucky I never finished my wave motion gun prototype or he'd be a smoking crater.
