Global individual vote system

I'm a quadriplegic disability advocate, 58, and I've spent the last few months building PlanetVote — a proposed global direct-democracy platform where every adult human on Earth votes on planetary-scale decisions.
The five threat categories are the ones this community talks about constantly: climate, AI governance, pandemic preparedness, asteroid defence, and supervolcanic risk. Two-thirds supermajority required for any resolution to pass. Crisis vote opens within six hours of a verified planetary emergency. Zero-knowledge blockchain identity so every person gets one vote regardless of where they live or who governs them.
No nation controls it. No institution owns it. Including me — I would be just another voter.
I launched it on 3 April 2026. Built in four days with Claude. The platform now has four live shadow votes running in real time — real votes from real visitors, recorded and displayed as they come in:
-
Should an international body have binding authority over near-Earth object threats?
-
Should a global programme fund geothermal depressurisation of supervolcanic systems?
-
Should a verified global supermajority vote be binding on all governments regarding climate?
-
Should global democratic consent be required before deploying AI systems that developers acknowledge could pose existential risk?
Responses so far include Professor Johan Rockström (Potsdam Institute), Professor Frank Biermann (who invited us to present at the Uppsala ESG Conference in 2027), Hindou Oumarou Ibrahim (UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues), Andreas Bummel (Democracy Without Borders), and an invitation to the Global Forum on Modern Direct Democracy in Gaborone.
I'm not here to sell anything. I'm looking for people who think this matters and might want to contribute — whether you're a developer, a researcher, someone who works in governance, or someone who just wants to cast a real vote on a real question.
The platform: https://theplanetsvote.org/world_vote.html
The white paper: https://theplanetsvote.org/PlanetVote_WhitePaper_v1_4.pdf
The code: https://github.com/PlanetVote/PlanetVote
Happy to answer anything.

Super cool man, i’ve often daydreamed of something like this being implemented. Unfortunately i’ve done this thought experiment enough to come to some conclusions; basically the only way this would work and be implemented is if it was done after a major world war by the victors. It takes too much power away from the current systems to be allowed to work. You never know though, maybe!
frequency-32@reddit (OP)
I totally agree they will not want to give up power but with such numbers they may have to listen.
Shoddy-Childhood-511@reddit
World government and viable world voting could only worsen climate change and even inequality.
How do you stop an electrical circuit immediately draining its power source? You add resistors, which waste some energy as heat, but slow the overall flow.
Jevons paradox represents the same observation about humans using energy & resources.
Also ecology has the maximum power principle : During self-organization, system designs develop and prevail that maximize power intake, energy transformation, and those uses that reinforce production and efficiency. (H.T. Odum 1995, p. 311)
The MPP sounds like "species will consume everything and go extinct." More and more and more by Jean Baptiste Fressoz argues that voluntary energy transitions have never happened before, just resource exhaustion.
Yet, the MPP allows sustainable population dynamics in natural ecosystems, through violence like predation and starvation. We'll similarly need everyone's consumption to be reduced by force, which obviously cannot happen by voting.
We've finally broken the old taboo against harming oil refineries, since now the Ukraine war and Iran v Israel have started taking out refineries. If this expands enough, then we can leave much of the remaining oil in the ground.
Also, inequality only ever declines significantly when either the workforce shrinks, or lots of capital gets destoryed, either of which should benefit us ecologically too, even if not personally.

Nice and fancy on the paper, but who will enforce it?
frequency-32@reddit (OP)
The people we vote in to enforce it

My first action will be a motion to refuse to use any political system built by claude.
frequency-32@reddit (OP)
It was my idea. Claude just helped me build it.
TryptaMagiciaN@reddit
I will be filing a motion to rename it to Jeff instead

Rule 3: Posts must be on-topic, focusing on collapse.
Posts must be focused on collapse. If the subject matter of your post has less focus on collapse than it does on issues such as prepping, politics, or economics, then it probably belongs in another subreddit.
Posts must be specifically about collapse, not the resulting damage. By way of analogy, we want to talk about why there are so many car accidents, not look at photos of car wrecks.

I'd rather let the yogurt make our decisions.

The whole world is a mix of languages but your site is only English. So it’s really just a voting platform for English societies. And unless you have corp or gov authority, you can’t really do much with the votes.
JackBlackBowserSlaps@reddit
We don’t fight collapse here, it’s not worth the effort.
73td@reddit
how much software engineering code review have you done on the implementation, protocol, resistance to attacks the kind seen in cryptocurrency?
One-Intention7064@reddit
Built with Claude??? in 4 days??? 👺 it's because the people like you, who use AI, my future 25 children will be deprived of fresh water, because your AI takes it all for data centers!!!! /sarcasm
the correct redditor way to build projects is by learning programming at university or through youtube tutorials for 10 years, slowly work up your way toward frontend and backend. then write or copy paste every line of code yourself, without ever touching sinful, foul AI!!! /sarcasm once more

Explain the identity piece. I didn’t realize that was a solved problem (aside from Sam’s retina scanner)
Shoddy-Childhood-511@reddit
There is no code at this github and no authentication to vote, so nothing much going on here, just tracking by cookies or IP addresses. And zero chance the voting is private. lol
It's not solved nor should we ever want it solved really.
There are projects that do zk snarks of reading an epassport. There is some complexity in the epassport standard, so none of these projects support all epassports, nor do all countries have epassports, but you could hit many countries this way.
There is a map here of the proportion who hold a passport. I'd always heard that only 7% of Americans have passports, but maybe this number increased. https://www.onlygoodnewsdaily.com/post/by-country-percentage-of-population-with-passport
Now some people would more votes because their nation allows more duplicate epassports, probably two for the US, but maybe more or less elsewhere. Also some people have more citizenships.
Assuming you use zk snarks of epassports, then you've maybe three choices:
Create a fresh snark per operation - You somehow make each vote source a fresh signature from the epassport. If possible, this means the person needs their epassport to vote. This might handle revocation better, assuming any of these zk snark schemes even handle revocation. You could still sell your vote by selling one or more of your epassports. This is a lot of electricity. I think zk STARKs maybe cheaper for electricity here, but they have questionable zero-knowledge, so not smart anytime soon. Probably no anonymity.
Create a Groth16 rerandomize it - This solves the electricity problem. You need some nullifier which you must source from the epassport somehow. I'm unsure if you could detect revocations that way. Afaik no anonymity here, probably leaks something, maybe illegal under GDPR depending upon how you tally the votes. It's easier to sell your vote in this scheme, just sell the rerandomizable SNARK.
Register a fresh public key only once by creating a SNARK of your epassport - This solves the electricity problem. You'd register a ring VRF key into its ring, so then you can vote anonymously using this key, unlike the others probably. You can run advanced nice vote counting schemes that prove every vote gets counted too. It's probably hardest to handle revocation in this scheme, but selling your vote seems easy here too.

Awesome idea, let’s take this as far as it can go. I’m tired of not having a say. Thanks for this!

Great theory. Impossible in practice.
Things are not going to get better as long as oligarchs rule the roost in our democracies
