midlife crisis incoming

I had my first child at 38. Tonight was kindergarten roundup and I cannot wrap my head around her graduation year. 39 years after I graduated high school. My childhood best friend asked me how I feel about all of this and I told her it has me headed for some type of midlife crisis….might trade my SUV in for a sports car….i can just put the booster seat and car seat (my other kid is 2) on the trunk, right?

I have a class of 2034 and a class of 2037
innocentsmirks@reddit
Mine is c/o 2038. Prob gonna be mistaken for his granny instead of a mom by that point 😭

I feel your kids pain. My dad was 46 when I was born. His nickname on the construction job site was Papa Smurf because he had a big white beard and the company had blue hard hats.
It was pretty funny when I was a teenager once in a while a little kid would ask if he was Santa Claus. He'd say "No, but I'm friends with him. Is there something you want me to tell him?" I always described him to people as looking like Santa in bib overalls.
Another funny time in elementary school he came to pick me up from a friend's birthday party at his house and my friend's mom said hey your grandfather is here to pick you up. I was confused but said ok and come out to see my dad waiting in the foyer and said oh that's my dad. Lol
Eggplant-Easy@reddit
Sounds like a great guy taking it in stride! That’s all we can do as older parents 😊
marle217@reddit
I was c/o 2000 and my son will be c/o 2040. Didn't plan it that way, but I absolutely would've if I thought about it
I guess it'll be inevitable that people will think I'm grandma though 😢
Puzzleheaded-Hurry26@reddit
Also 1983, and mine is class of 2039. I’m keeping up with the sunscreen. Luckily I live in a larger metropolitan area so it’s not as uncommon for people to wait longer.
pico310@reddit
Class of 2037 here but I live in a HCOL and we’re all old parents over here. 😂
woolsocksandsandals@reddit
My oldest is also 2037 and I’m also in a HCOL area, I’m 43 and there’s quite a few people who have kids in my daughter’s first grade class that are five or six years older than me.
I saw a big groups of people walking to the high school for some event at the end of last year and all of the parents were like 60 years old. I think I’m gonna be in the middle of the pack age wise at 56 when my youngest graduates high school.
frougle_mcdugal@reddit
My youngest is 2034 and I someone has already made that comment. They said about my son, “he was with his father or possibly grandfather,” when referring to me. Disheartening to say the least.
BenOfTomorrow@reddit
I was diving in the Philippines and got paired up with a 23-year-old woman. One of the shop staff asked if I was her dad.
firesticks@reddit
That’s crazy, you were only 33 when he was born! That’s average age where I am. Especially for a youngest kid.
taleofbenji@reddit
Especially when there are plenty of 35 year old grannies around.
carinosa34@reddit
Same. And the librarian at the public library thought I was her grandma. I’m 48 but gave a lot of grey.
greaterwhiterwookiee@reddit
2041 checking in here
SinsOfThePast03@reddit
2042 for my youngest . And yeah, I'll be 63 at graduation 🤯
LReber722@reddit
Same for me! 🤯
LopensCouisin@reddit
I’ll be 60 in 2041…. Eeeeek
taita2004@reddit
Samesies!!
greaterwhiterwookiee@reddit
Yeah, I’m just short of that. It wasn’t in my book to be a dad of a new graduate at 58.
My oldest graduates this June. …
itadapeezas@reddit
This doesn’t even sound real 😭
WhatTheCluck802@reddit
I’m in awe of those of you with littles. I simply do not have the energy for that at this stage of my life.
casdoodle527@reddit (OP)
They keep us young (also tired and sorta broke, but not really).
babe_ruthless3@reddit
La Puente warrior?
casdoodle527@reddit (OP)
No, we live in the upper Midwest. Funny thing is, I graduated in a completely different state but had the same school colors, so that’s kinda cool I guess.
runjeanmc@reddit
It's crazy, isn't it? My brain really hurt when I realized my kids might be still be around in 2100.
casdoodle527@reddit (OP)
Good God I hadn’t even though of that! But yes, mine were born in 2020 & 2023!
dragon34@reddit
Ha I have a kid the same age. 38 years after I graduated from COLLEGE. * Crumbles into dust
tunamctuna@reddit
We are having our third this August.
One is going to be a senior next year, one will be going into the third grade and a baby.
I figured why have two only children when I could have three only children…

1981 (Class of 1999) Mom with a future Class of 2040 here!
mzx380@reddit
Mine will graduate in 2032
heresmytwopence@reddit
Damn, that's some early indoctrination. I don't remember being associated with a "class of" anything until middle school when we got student ID numbers starting with our graduation year that followed us through high school.

Mother_of_Kiddens@reddit
I have a 2yo who won’t be starting kindergarten until fall 2029, so class of 42 I think? lol I graduated in 01
TheThrivingest@reddit
Our age group is wild with the age spread of our kids. I also graduated in 01. My oldest graduates next year (2027) and my youngest will graduate 2030
Some of my friends my age are grandparents already. 🤯
Mother_of_Kiddens@reddit
It’s truly wild. My best friend who is a bit older than me is retired with grandsons who are 2 and 7. It’s wild that we’re peers but in such radically different stages of life.
tjdux@reddit
I'm gonna become a grandparent front the oldest this fall, and youngest kid doesn't graduate til 32 lol.
By then my grandchild will already be in school lol.
Negative-Wrap95@reddit
flabergasterer@reddit
Mine will be class of 27, 29, and 42. My midlife crisis was creating the 42. Now no budget for that sports car.
NoContextCarl@reddit
Preparing myself to be mistaken for a grandparent as well.
Insomniac_80@reddit
These days never assume someone is the grandparent ~~unless they actually look 65....~~
Quarrels-ofKoi@reddit
My 50 something year old neighbor adopted a baby a few years ago. I thought it was her grandchild before I found out she was adopted. I found out because someone referred to her as grandma and she got soooo pissed
antwan_benjamin@reddit
What else would she expect? Most people with kids are grandparents at 50.
Inglorious186@reddit
But I was class of 2000, the math ain't mathin cause I'm not old enough for this to be real
Hollinsgirl07@reddit
I’ll just head to the nursing home now.
OnRedditAtWorkRN@reddit
We did the opposite. I got one in 2nd year of college and one graduating 2027. We're about to be empty nesters in our mid 40s. I'm honestly not that excited about it though. We had kids cuz we wanted kids.
Insomniac_80@reddit
Hmm, do the pipes still work, you can have a second clutch!
OnRedditAtWorkRN@reddit
Lol nah, neither of us can have kids at this point anymore. We may foster.
Vorpal_Bunny19@reddit
I had to decline my 30th class reunion so I can attend my son’s kindergarten graduation. I feel your pain.
Okay, okay, so I really declined because I had 0 interest in seeing my bullies again but his kindy graduation is a fantastic reason to pass.
jaxknitsandknits@reddit
My youngest still has 5 years until they graduate. But what i can't wrap my mind around us the fact that my oldest is MARRIED.
intensenerd@reddit
My kid will graduate 30 years after I did and that just made my neck hurt a little.
Mr_Lucidity@reddit
Crap... yah... my oldest will be class of 2034, and my youngest 2039. Guess I'll be 57 when he graduates... Seems unreal...
Emannuelle-in-space@reddit
My dad was 38 when I was born in ‘85 and the junior high school where he worked gave him/me a baby shirt that said “school’s name class of 2000”. He said it broke his brain.
Plumeria9798@reddit
Right in front of you with one class of 2034 and one class of 2037. 😂😂😂
drwebb@reddit
My oldest is 15,, youngest 6. It's damn tiring, and I already drive a 90s coupe.
snewchybewchies@reddit
My SIL just had a kid, class of 2044. That ain't even a real number
Top-Wolverine-8684@reddit
All three of my kids have already graduated. We're already well into the college years.
ineffable_my_dear@reddit
Our kids are 2018 and 2030. It was wild that our little kid started kindergarten on the big kid’s first day of senior year.
tfaboo@reddit
Some teachers at my school who have been there a few years weren't even born yet when I graduated from high school. ... ...
Mysterious_Secret827@reddit
I do livestreams, I'm in my 30s, and I'm already called gramps.
FatReverend@reddit
Damn, I'm not even going to be alive by then and honestly I'm glad about that.

You did good dad/mom whoever posted this. We out there building the next generation. Fuck these numbers...they're just..numbers..right.

firesticks@reddit
This is just unnecessary. I had not done the math that my kid will graduate in 2038 and I’m really not feeling well with it.
tarmgabbymommy79@reddit
2037! I'm 46 with a 7 year old 🤗
Stonk_Lord86@reddit
Hate to say it, but it’s time for a crisis that is well past midlife, unless you are healthmaxxing. 😂 Enjoy those events though, they are awesome and “the good old days” and most don’t know it until it’s way down the line.
EmmalouEsq@reddit
Same boat here. I'm not sure how I feel about it, yet!
neuro_space_explorer@reddit
Jesus Christ, this is now added to the many reasons I won’t have kids.

Class of 96 Warrior here, I'm sure she'll do the old alma mater proud. Best of luck to the both of you 🤙
