HELP NEEDED
So my boyfriend got his car back in 2024 and hasn't been able to fix anything or drive it since he got the car when he was on his learners permit.
He's been telling me that he has to jumpstart the car by connecting it to another car since he doesn't have a battery pack. He's told me his CV joint on his front left wheel needs to get replaced and a few other things too.
I don't know like anything about cars but I really want to learn so I can help him with his car and understand stuff about cars.
Anyway, so the main issue is that his car wont start without a jumpstart. When he puts the key into the ignition and goes to crank it nothing happens. Im going with him to have a look at his car but he thinks theres something wrong in the fuse box.
I've done some research and I think it may be something with his battery but he says he's charged it fully but doesn't have it under any insurance or warranty and doesn't know how old it is.
Would it be worth trying to start his car by putting my foot on the brake, put in neutral, shift into park then turn the key in ignition?
Any ideas or anything that would help is NEEDED and very much APPRECIATED!!

It could be that the battery terminals have corrosion built up on them. There're cheap terminal cleaning brushes you can get from any automotive store. Try cleaning the connectors and the battery terminals and see how you go.
Next is the battery itself. It is possible to charge an old battery, and it'll show the correct voltage but only a load test on the battery can tell you what its actual condition is. If it is weak under load, you'll have starting issues. Automotive stores usually will test your battery for free, and be able to tell you how it's doing.
If the battery is good, then the car may have a parasitic draw, meaning that something is causing the battery to drain even when the ignition is switched off. If there are any accessories plugged into the cigarette lighter, try unplugging it and see how it goes.

You can check out this video for more info on parasitic draws and how they are diagnosed. All the best!

Find someone who knows how to fix cars. It will probably cost money, which will be money well spent.
