Cheapest/Budget Friendly GPU that can play any game out right now?

Spare me some roasting. Or not. I haven’t gamed in a while. My current GPU is a PowerColor Red Dragon Radeon™ RX 580 8GB GDDR5
I’m a student on a budget. I really just want to know what’s the cheapest GPU I can buy but that can play any game out right now? For example, let’s throw in Arc Raiders.
elbubsio@reddit
Hi,
There's a few choices for $300 (I'm in the UK, but in my experience, $ prices are usually about equal) -
AMD 6800 16GB. ($280ish)
Nvidia 3060 12GB ($200ish)
AMD 6750XT 12GB ($280ish)
Intel Arc B580 12GB ($280ish)
Typically, AMD is better bang for the buck, Nvidia has the fancy ray tracing stuff and Intel is a decent middle ground between the 2.
Hope that helps ;)
lleyton05@reddit
If you want new go with the arc b580, if you want used look for like a 3060ti or 3070. 3080 or 3070ti are also possible but are harder to find at that price point
Azthioth@reddit
Used 1080ti 11gb. $150 bucks and runs every game out there at High settings at 1080p and most at 2k at medium settings. It's unstoppable.
2raysdiver@reddit
According to Arc Raiders requirements, a GTX 1050 Ti. And I would imagine a GTX 1070 and above or GTX 980 Ti would work as well.
aragorn18@reddit
The RX 580 can play any game out right now. Just not a high settings or very fast.
You need to give more specific requirements.
Objective-Bike-4292@reddit
I had a RX580 and replaced it with a 50 series card because it was not compatible with final fantasy 7 rebirth.
aragorn18@reddit
Fair enough. My rhetorical point was that OP didn't provide enough details to give a useful answer.
BARACK-O-BISQUIK@reddit (OP)
My apologies and also my lack of sufficient knowledge when talking about PC parts building.
I'd prefer when I run any game — that it run well. But not well enough where I need the top specs to play competitively... But well enough that it runs games that demand a lot from a PC "good enough"? I really hope that answers your question.
Think of someone who's not looking to be too casual but not too competitive either.
DifficultWalrus8811@reddit
You never listed your PSU wattage - even if you found an RTX 3090ti used and in your $300 budget, if you have a 500w PSU, you won't be able to use it.
adanceparty@reddit
You've gotten some answers but the answer is usually a few games you play, what settings you're okay with like medium, high or ultra, games you want to play but struggle to play or can't run, and the resolution of the monitor you use or plan to use in the future. Also I saw the edit with a budget but that will help future posts give more direct answers. Also use task manager or something like HWinfo to tell you and list other specs mostly cpu maybe how much ram you have.
W_Whintr@reddit
You didn’t give a price range but a new 9060xt 16 for $450 usd or a 5060ti 16gb for $420 usd both are great “budget” cards. There’s also the used route if you wanna go cheaper.
You can use task manager/bios to look at your specs.
dsinsti@reddit
Agree, innanother price range 270-300 the intel b580 is also a great budget card. I got a 9060xt 16Gb for 368€ and a b580 for 270 and both are great modern cards ( I mostly game at 1440p)
Nek0maniac@reddit
You want to have at least a Ryzen 3000 series CPU though as Intel GPUs rely on rebar.
W_Whintr@reddit
I highkey forgot about intel cards their great for budget builds
notolo632@reddit
When talking about wanted performance, try to list specifics like resolution and framerate, upscale, frame gen or not.
For example, typical budget builds aim for 1920x1080p (1080p or FHD) at 60fps. If your CPU can handle it, DLSS (for NVidia) and framegen helps with fps and resolution, typically at the cost of some visual artifacts.
If you have a 1440p (2k) screen and you'd want 60fps, its a whole another story. Thats why we want more details
fyreburn@reddit
I was rocking the RX 480 in arc raiders and tarkov.
Did it run? Yes.
Did it run well? ||No comment.||
rustyxj@reddit
My kid was playing cyberpunk with my old r9 270x 😂🤣😂, backed by a Ryzen 7 2700x and 16gb of trident.z 3600 C14.
I keep trying to get him to save for a video card, but he had to have a meta quest 3, for Christmas he wanted an Xbox one series x(I think) he could have had a bitchin' video card, rarely plays the Xbox.
DifficultWalrus8811@reddit
I kept trying to explain to my eldest how PCs work and I also tried to get her to help me when putting together her new PC so she could at least learn something about it, but she had "better things to do". Lately, life has been keeping me from being home for long periods if time, and she's likely starting to regret not paying attention because when there was an issue recently she asked her mom to fix it, but her mom doesn't know anything about PCs and told her she was on her own.
txb17@reddit
no comment, made me laugh, it should've been very bad tbh xd
TubbyNumNums@reddit

hutre@reddit
The 580 can not run games like RE Requiem or Crimson Desert, even on low. But if it isn't released this year or last, then it is probably fine in most cases
lawrencekhoo@reddit
You may also need to lower the resolution to 540p (quarter HD) 😄
assholejudger954@reddit
I regret selling mine. Should've kept it as a display piece
NerdMouse@reddit
You could buy used 30 series gpus. I think the RTX 3070 should be less than $300, and you might be able to get a 3080 if you find a really good deal.
Muha_Bar@reddit
Try this https://www.buildshub.org/partcompare you can compare any parts you want, and it will give you detailed results.
novafied@reddit
If your system only has PCIE 3 (which seems likely given that you have an RX 580) then you should avoid mid-range 50 series Nvidia cards because they only support 8 PCIE lanes and your speeds will tank.
Used 30 series or AMD 6000 series seems like your best bet as others have said
SyrusDeathHunter345@reddit
Id just scour the used market for some upgrades and decide from there. I cant tell you spending 300$ on an upgrade is a good idea because it isnt. I understand you situation but I also understand that the PC market is not cheap especially right now. Theres nothing else to say about it, but some people drop some good deals. Other times people try to sell a pc like yours for 300$.
My recommendation would be to try and save some money. This summer would be a good time to try and put some money aside.
4070ti@reddit
probably a 2070ti super, 3060, 3070… something of the like. can find them for good deals on ebay and such. just depends on your budget. you gave hardly any details. tell us the max you want to spend, a list of some games, which settings you want to play on, the other specs of your PC (power supply, motherboard matters…)
BARACK-O-BISQUIK@reddit (OP)
For budget, my absolute limit is $300... Which means I guess I should be open to buying used as well.
Some guys I'd want to play are Arc Raiders, Assassins Creed, Elden Ring, RDR2. Also bonus: Something good enough that would be able to run GTA 6 when it comes out.
But honestly if you suggest I should wait until I can upgrade with no budget, then I think I'd be okay with that.
Math_Mortician@reddit
look for a used 3070 they’re usually 200-250 i have one listed on hardware swap if you’re interested
AzureBat@reddit
5060 would be the absolute best that you can get. Though prices currently are closer to $330. If $300 is absolute absolute, then we should start looking in the used market.
The 3070 / 3070 Ti are very good and are slightly better than the 5060. In the used market, you'll find them for around $230-280.
The reason for going with nvidia is the pure value of DLSS. I had a 2060 Super and with DLSS, it was able to handle modern games (Monster Hunter Wilds as an example of absolute atrocious optimization). The graphics wasn't the best obviously but being able to get smooth gameplay is more than worth it.
First-Quality9551@reddit
3070 ain't better than a 5060. Not even close with the new stuff.
adanceparty@reddit
Yeah but if he's hard capped at 300 he's not finding a 5060.
Bichaelcycle@reddit
Depends on your budget but you can find 1660ti's for around 100 dollars on ebay
Math_Mortician@reddit
it’s a good entry point but not much of an upgrade from a 580 tbh
_Destiny_Bond_@reddit
Can you run games on a $300 GPU? Yea. Will you run games well enough to truly enjoy it over what a console could provide you? Probably not. I replaced my 5060 with a 5070 within 6 months because it wasn’t giving me the performance I wanted especially at 1440p. I can’t do 1080p anymore.
Nice_Knee_1538@reddit
Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 12GB.
Sirvaleen@reddit
Bought that one 2 years ago, I'm only playing on 1080p and it's been great so far even on unoptimized games
Specialist_Chip7198@reddit
Used 6800 XT is probs the best call at that $300 budget, way more VRAM headroom than the 3060 some people are suggesting. Dont sleep on the Intel B580 either if you want new instead of used.
Dependent_Wafer3866@reddit
I would save extra for an RX 9060 XT 16GB personally. I'm seeing one for €400 online.
Reason being that you get the latest frame gen, which gives so much extra FPS. You also get a very generous amount of VRAM. With a card like that you're set to play everything out right now, and probably for the next 10 years honestly. I'm 7 years into my 2080 Ti, and the 9060 XT has roughly the same power, before any sort of frame gen.
Meanwhile something like a 5060 8GB is inevitably going to need an upgrade in like five years, for not really any significant savings over that timespan. You spend less now, but it will cost more in the long run, and give you a worse experience over all those years as well.
Luckyirishdevil@reddit
You can find used 3080's, 6800XT, 3070ti, or 6800 for around $300.
adanceparty@reddit
Shoot I've got a 3080ti up for grabs.
JeffTek@reddit
Piggybacking on this to say I run a 6800XT (admittedly with a 7600x3d and 32gb ram) and game easy at 1440p. No issues really. Maybe not always maxing my 170hz monitor but always way high enough fps to be smooth as hell.
Luckyirishdevil@reddit
That would be my 1st choice. That 16GB of VRAM will last and the raster has held up great
JeffTek@reddit
Oh for sure, I see no signs of it having issues with pretty much anything I throw at it. Maybe a new AAA game won't want to give me 170fps at max settings, but if drop a few things like shadows and AA down a couple ticks it is perfectly fine hitting in the 150s. It's also just stable. It's not giving me those random drops.
M88bie@reddit
At your budget I would try and find a new 5060, it will be competent enough for your needs, you gain current dlss features which you will need to help improve performance on different titles. On top of all that you will have a new warranty for your peace of mind, something you won’t have if buying used. The 5060 is a capable 1080p card and even playing some stuff at 1440p with the help of dlss and fg etc.
Uranium___Potato@reddit
used 3080
esw123@reddit
I was lucky and got Aorus GTX1080 for 60 euro, but since then haven't seen such deals. RTX2060Super or 2060 12GB version still supported with drivers updates, has access to RT to start any modern game (I look at you Indiana Jones), 8GB VRAM and DLSS. It can be found for 130-150 euro, next step will be 3060 for 180-200 euro.
VWLupo@reddit
Im rocking a 2080 super... absolutely great card for me. Can play 1440p medium/high depending on the game. Slight undervolt so it runs cooler and you're good to go!!
TopExplanation138@reddit
The arc b580 or the rx 6600 xt is a good option.
mpgd@reddit
I have a 6600 it runs everything I want to play. Some games I need to lower the settings but it is still playable.
My old 1060 still lives in my in-law's Pc. Last time I checked he was playing Minecraft, Roblox, Fortnite, CS and Valorant.
It all comes down to budget and expectations.
Herp-derpenstein@reddit
Rx 6800 xt. Even the rx 6700 xt will play most games in 1440p, it'll play EVERYTHING at 1080
PivoWar42@reddit
RX9060XT, ideally 16GB if you can fetch it in a discount
LowkChud_15@reddit
I'd go with a 5060ti, you can sometimes find It for 350 dollars
Ozi-reddit@reddit
budget?
BARACK-O-BISQUIK@reddit (OP)
If you believe it's safe to purchase used PC products then I am open to it. I've had more bad experiences than good when buying used tech products unfortunately

nate030@reddit
How does a newbie with no idea on what any of it mean read this chart? What does the performance number on the left mean?
beirch@reddit
It literally says relative performance right there on the chart.
If a 3090 gets 100 fps, then a 2080 Ti gets ~80 fpsm that's what it means.
Ozi-reddit@reddit
higher is better
BARACK-O-BISQUIK@reddit (OP)
nice! thanks for this
Ozi-reddit@reddit
yeah understand being wary
e-bay does offer buyer prot but your paying for it, not sure if any others do. but if budget is tight your kinda forced
krootman@reddit
2080ti or and arc b580 will be able to handle anything
hadtolaugh@reddit
I’ll sell you a 3080 FTW3, used of course, but still works perfectly fine. I’m only selling because I caught a deal on a 5070ti.
Little_Lebowski_007@reddit
I love that when I check you have 6 upvotes and 30 comments - nice ratio.
What's your resolution? If it's 1440p or over, focus on at least 12GB RAM.
I have a 3070 and it plays everything I throw at it, but I have to adjust the settings to compensate (mainly for the 8GB RAM). In terms of pure power I think the 3070 is underrated because of the 8GB RAM - but I may be bias.
smodanc@reddit
6800xt
Primus_is_OK_I_guess@reddit
With a budget of $300, I would be looking for a 3070ti or even a 3080 on Facebook marketplace. You could probably also snag a 7700xt for that price.
Zer0C00L321@reddit
I just replaced my 6600 which ran everything great. Now kinda regretting the upgrade because I see no difference other than more frames. 6600 is Only like $200 now.
Academic-Business-45@reddit
3060 12gb

Yep. Used 3080 would be the play
Gex2-EnterTheGecko@reddit
Need a bit more information. Are you talking about new gpus?
Affectionate-Memory4@reddit
How tight is the budget and how comfortable are you with going used?
By default I'll recommend another 580, the Arc B580. The B570 is also no slouch if you can find one for a good bit cheaper.
