Why is my range dropping so quickly?

My first car is a Renault Clio 2010 and I’ve realised when driving the range will go down by a mile when I have only drove about 0.6 of a mile. It also says my average mpg is 48.1 which I don’t believe as it feels like my range drops way quicker than that. Is it because my car is old it’s just less fuel efficient or is the range not a good estimate?

I keep a journal of my fuel consumption, so I can tell if there has been a difference from tank to tank, this way if there is a problem it can be addressed.

Range is bullshit. My range when I left my house this morning for my commute on my daily driver said 480 miles left with half a tank. When I got to work 20 miles later I had half a tank and the range said 390 miles. In order to have 480 mile range on half a tank, it would have to average 87mpg. Don’t pay attention to it.

Fill the car up at the petrol station and reset your trip odometer. Snap a photo of the estimated range or write it down. After using most of your fuel go back to the same petrol station, fill up again (watch how much you have pumped) and compare the results. Renault's estimates were often off around that time, like even 1l/100km difference
