Would you give up seeing birds or eating them?

Would you rather:
A) Never see or hear a bird again for the rest of your life (they’d basically stop existing to you)
or
B) Never be able to eat any kind of bird again (no chicken, turkey, etc.)
Curious what people would choose and why.
Major_Toe_6041@reddit
Not seeing doesn’t need to mean they do not exist. I could just somehow go through life without witnessing one ever again.
With this loophole, I’d pick A. I have plenty of hobbies and do not need to start birdwatching, fatty pidgeon who eats my garden and shits on my car would be gone, and no seagulls would be stealing my chips.
For the sake of not seeing a robin at Christmas again or meeting a hummingbird, I’d take it.
Swimming_Possible_68@reddit
I would give up eating birds.
There are loads of other things to eat, but birds in nature are just wonderful!
Optimal-Room-8586@reddit
Definitely never eat a bird again. I mean, they're tasty, but not sufficiently tasty to merit the erasure of a whole category of the animal kingdom!
LittleSadRufus@reddit
There's nothing about erasure here. It's just you personally will never hear or see a bird again. It doesn't affect the birds or anyone else.
Optimal-Room-8586@reddit
Ah okay fair enough. Not sure how that works... but in that case. F*ck the birds and gimme my chicken roast.
WitShortage@reddit
I would miss eating duck, but I'd happily give it up in exchange for birds sticking around.
I'd be happy to get rid of pigeons though. There are some that live near me who literally never shut up
IdiotBearPinkEdition@reddit
I love birds. Suddenly falling in love with birds in the last couple of years has actually vastly improved my life. There's always something small, round and fluffy to look out for with a different song
Chicken is yummy, but I'd definitely choose to eat something else forever if it meant I could still walk through a park listening to goldfinches and blackcaps
D0wnb0at@reddit
Seeing.
Hate the c***s. Beautiful creatures, but I’m a gardener and they eat all my crops, I have to put netting over my planters and had to make cages over my strawberry’s/ blueberry’s, they eat all my grass seeds too. Little bastards. Also they sit in the tree next to my bedroom window squarking at 4-5am in the summer and wake me up.
LittleSadRufus@reddit
My understanding from the question is they can still eat your berries and shit everywhere, you'll just never seen them doing it. You'll stop hearing the morning squawking though
lost-in-midgard@reddit
I already gave up eating them do I get to see more?
mistake-learned@reddit
What is your choosen protein source? If you gave up eating birds, its even more possible you dont eat animal meat.
ThatNiceDrShipman@reddit
Definitely A) annoying little shits
FreeBogwoppits@reddit
I have pet rescue chickens, so haven't eaten bird meat in 15 years.
Sing on birdies, it's a pleasure to hear and see you.
bonshui@reddit
This is a superb question. My answer is a very easy B.
h00dman@reddit
Right? I love these sorts of questions.
OP mine would be B as well.
When it comes to eating vegetarian or vegan substitutes for meat I've found that chicken seems to be the easiest to replicate in taste and texture.
Wooden_Astronaut4668@reddit
Eating them, obvs!
no meat is that delish 🤷🏻♀️
ClarifyingMe@reddit
I lived in a city abroad once where I never saw any birds apart from when one shat on my face. I never really got used to not seeing birds, so I guess I would give up chicken. But they have to stop shitting on me.
Maleficent_Day_3869@reddit
never eat another bird. i have pet zebra finches and i absolutely don’t want to never see them again. i love my babies and i’m planning to get a tattoo for my birds! i also have frequent bird visitors in my garden because we have several bird feeders :) i love birds
Commercial-Bat-4534@reddit
I'm curious, you love your pet birds but do currently eat other birds? Do you ever think about that like why that's okay with you when you love birds?
Maleficent_Day_3869@reddit
i maybe eat meat once a month when at family events and there’s no vegetarian dishes. i’m predominantly vegetarian and use meat alternatives in my cooking. it’s not okay with me and i still feel guilty each time
Commercial-Bat-4534@reddit
Id recommend you don't look into the egg industry, they grind up chicks alive if they're male and it's quite upsetting to watch. Especially the one who missed the grinders and couldn't escape... It made me cry.
I saw a chicken kill itself in a gas chamber by breaking it's bones to escape the cage they're in and falling to its death.
I feel guilty too. It's horrible. But I only feel guilty because I can't stop what other people do, if I could, none of this would happen.
Maleficent_Day_3869@reddit
oh, i know. i’m making steps towards a vegan diet but i grew up eating meat daily so it’s a wip. i’m proud of my progress so far though! i’m currently trying to find an alternative to cows milk as i’ve tried almond and hate it
it’s definitely terrible and i wish more people understood the harm the beauty and food industry have on animals. but alas, their heads are too far up their asses
Commercial-Bat-4534@reddit
It's an ongoing process for everyone, nobody is a perfect vegan! But huge changes are made just by everyone trying to reduce their consumption, it's not all on one person!
There's so many milks to try now! I think a lot of people like oato. I'm used to them all so just get the 89p soy milk from Aldi for the protein!
Maleficent_Day_3869@reddit
most definitely! for me though, it’s more about the horrible guilt i feel when consuming animal products. believe me, i’ve done the research. i also volunteer at my local pet shelter every weekend as well as having my finches so animals are incredibly important to me
it’s simply incredibly difficult in a family that thinks are vegetarians are pathetic. my family refuses to eat anything i make because it doesn’t have meat in it🥲
there’s lots and i’m sure i’ll find something i like! recently i’ve been getting oat milk in my coffee and i really like that so it’s next on my list to try
Commercial-Bat-4534@reddit
Mine are the same, I've been cooking for myself since I was a kid. It's hard to do the extra pots and pans and have to buy my own ingredients but once things become your normal it's harder to turn back to old habits than it feels to carry on
All change comes with compromise. We all have to try our best and undo the beliefs instilled in us. Animals are not our slaves. They're amazing creatures and we love them! We have to remember that it's about them.
Maleficent_Day_3869@reddit
solidarity my friend. it’s so difficult but also so worth it! we have chickens at my shelter and they’re such friendly beings. it makes me feel awful that they’re killed and abused for no reason even though there’s other alternatives now
even if there’s other people eating meat we can rest peacefully knowing that because we made a sacrifice, precious animals get to keep their lives. knowing that is worth all the struggle :)
Commercial-Bat-4534@reddit
I had chickens growing up and I loved them, they are such interesting characters! I love pigeons too! I wish I could volunteer at shelters for them , that's pretty cool!
Asleep-Software-4160@reddit
Last time I was on holiday, I was hiking and there was this bird somewhere in the trees with the most godawful cry. It was like a weak circular saw winding up and down (vrr! vrrr! bzzzzzaw!). And it did it non-stop for about four hours. So I'm gonna stick with eating chicken and you can blame that bird.
Professional_Rip2781@reddit
I had pet chickens 12 years ago never eaten a bird since
Younisshk@reddit (OP)
Did you ever watch chicken run?
Professional_Rip2781@reddit
No I haven’t, do you recommend ?
Younisshk@reddit (OP)
You will genuinely love it
Professional_Rip2781@reddit
I’ll check it out. Chickens have the most amazing personalities, I didn’t know this before I kept them as pets and happily ate chicken prior to this. Wouldn’t dream of eating chicken or any other bird ever again after owning some.
Commercial-Bat-4534@reddit
I love chickens too, now imagine them with a northern accent, that's chicken run
Bubble-Master96@reddit
I really love chicken and turkey and is a large part of my protein intake, but I also really love seeing the two robins in my garden flit about and being cuties. So guess I’m living on ham
Commercial-Bat-4534@reddit
I know this is hypothetical but you went straight to ham instead of vegan replica chicken? You know it's the easiest meat to replicate lol
Commercial-Bat-4534@reddit
I'm vegan bro
Then_Wheel_3561@reddit
B
anchoredwunderlust@reddit
I… do t eat birds
DB-DanCooper@reddit
B. I prefer beef anyway. Everything about birds annoy me but I wouldn't want them gone for some reason.
niki723@reddit
I'd give up eating them.
Timely_Egg_6827@reddit
Give up eating them - though are eggs allowed as cake would be a hard loss.
Moppo_@reddit
Damn, that is difficult. Birds are entertaining buggers, and chicken is my favourite meat.
Prestigious-Garbage5@reddit
I would happily turn vegetarian if it meant saving all the birds, and wild animals too.
Think_Money_6919@reddit
Easily option A. I never interact with birds nearly enough as I eat chicken. And it just affects me right? I.e. they still exist and have no effect on ecosystems etc. ?
PaintSniffer1@reddit
anyone saying seeing needs to get their head checked and expand their diet
GoAineGirlYe@reddit
I know. No duck ragu, no goose fat on your roast potatoes, no buffalo wings?
Slyspy006@reddit
But my chicken nuggies!
Younisshk@reddit (OP)
People I asked IRL unanimously agreed on never seeing again
PaintSniffer1@reddit
that is bleak
destria@reddit
Well given that I'm already vegetarian, I pick B.
lucky1pierre@reddit
Nah. I'm straight as they come, me. Love birds.
Sea-Still5427@reddit
Easy, never eat them. I don't eat wild ones anyway, so it's really only a worry if you're a hen.
ceciem2100@reddit
I'd give up eating them. I love birds, plenty of other proteins to eat!
acceberbex@reddit
I'd stop eating them. I prefer other meats anyway
CumGuzlinGutterSluts@reddit
Its the same thing.. You'd never be able to eat bird again either way
Younisshk@reddit (OP)
Fair point, I meant you could see the bird when it’s in your plate etc
Cultural_Horse_7328@reddit
Thank goodness duck and goose are both fish, so GFYS.
skisagooner@reddit
A. Too easy for me but apparently so little of you take the pleasure of eating with any seriousness...
eleanornatasha@reddit
I’m vegetarian, I already do B
Mglfll@reddit
Got to love spotting a good tit or two in the wild
MajorTurbo@reddit
I thought my answer would be 'A', but right now I can hear birds singing in my garden. And it's beautiful. So without any more hesitation - 'B'.
Gornal-Annie6133@reddit
Sitting here in my garden listening to a beautiful Robin and Blackbird singing their hearts out. Hubby has gone for a KFC
Nope_Ninja-451@reddit
B. Easy. No contest.
RafRafRafRaf@reddit
Vegetarian for 35 years and counting.
Tweet on, birdies.
(Domesticated poultry would get pretty rare pretty quickly and given the amount of sheer suffering going on in that industry… I’m A-OK with that.)
Grenache@reddit
How stoned are you?
Cal_PCGW@reddit
I think bro just played Cyberpunk. In that lovely dystopian setting, birds were culled en masse due to fear of bird flu or other disease.
Fantastic-Pear6241@reddit
For medical purposes I cannot eat much meat outside of poultry.
I would give up eating them. I'd give up meat entirely if the other option was no more birds.
these_metal_hands@reddit
There are other meats and foods.
I'd give up eating them. Without a doubt.
Younisshk@reddit (OP)
Think how eerie it would be never hearing bird song again
pot_on_wheels@reddit
I am a vegetarian so naturally option B
Opening_Succotash_95@reddit
B. Chicken is nice but not my favourite meat. Turkey isn't good.
Birds are wonderful.
missyesil@reddit
Easy. Eating. I love feeding, hearing and watching birds. I only really buy and cook meat because of the rest of the family and pets.
Satansrideordie@reddit
Never eat another bird, come on this one isn’t difficult at all and should overwhelmingly be the answer
PKblaze@reddit
Seeing. I like chicken and turkey and don't eat much other meats.
SpudFire@reddit
I'd have to go with not seeing them. I think I like chicken too much to choose the other way.
Neddlings55@reddit
I could never give up hearing my little flock of sparrows. They bring me such joy.
Harrry-Otter@reddit
Probably give up eating them.
Chicken and turkey for the most part aren’t particularly exciting meats so no massive loss. I’d miss duck more, but I don’t eat it that often so I’m sure I could swap to something else.
Key-Disaster-3682@reddit
Love birds, love pints, love engerland simple as 🏴
TapeDeckSlick@reddit
B. I prefer beef and pork over chicken anyway
GoAineGirlYe@reddit
Isn't A both? Or do they become visible once they're dead?
