Yes. Still going strong ๐คฃ
Optima44@reddit
I got hit round the head with one of these. Hurt so badly.
CharieRarie@reddit
Yup I work in a primary school and these are still very much in use! One kid could even skip with them, very impressive.
yyyyzryrd@reddit
One of my first more serious injuries was from something similar to this. If I remember correctly, we (for some reason) had a skateboard on a rope. I was on the skateboard, someone pulled the rope, and it hurt a lot.
Absolute deathtraps.
Motor-Platform295@reddit
Weren't they called Romper Stompers?
Kooky-mutant@reddit
I work in a school that has these !
LeniJF@reddit
As someone who works in Education admin and put an order in for some of these yesterday, yes they are still used.
SunJay333@reddit
They terrified me because always fell off. Would do a weird little shuffle in them
Cumulus-Crafts@reddit
Bildad the Shuite mention raaagh
ceeearan@reddit
I don't know tbh, I haven't been at school for years now.
Holy_God@reddit
Had them in 2007 ish
TheThingwithTheFeath@reddit
Ohhh I remember these! You would stand on them and hold the strings and try to walk! We had them in the early 2010s.ย
Auntie_Cagul@reddit
1970s here..
Paull7@reddit
Used them in the early 00s primary school
Sophisticated-Tiger@reddit
Soooo....not that thing where you put dtring between two cans and make a telephone line? I jest of course, I know they are stilts.
tiny-brit@reddit
I was in primary school in 2009 and I have no idea what this is.
jimmybiggles@reddit
i was in primary back then too, they're like stilts - stand on the "bucket", pull the string up, and it's like arm-assisted walking kinda? we had the bright idea of doing a race on these across our concrete playground... 3 out of 8 of us gashed up their faces pretty good ๐ but at least i won ๐
Ok_Bumblebee_9873@reddit
Bucket stilts. I remember having them back in the late 90s early 2000s.
Bloxxerboi@reddit
Cuppy-duppy-suppies or whatever i called them
Phat-Lines@reddit
I was also in primary in 2009 and I remember these but never used them. You put your feet on them and hold the string and pull up, so you can walk as if they were your feet.
DozyDrake@reddit
"used" is a strong word. It implies that they had some sort of purpose
Amelieee1@reddit
Stilts... the ropes were always wet somehow!
Hollykw@reddit
Ahhhh yes can hear the clop clop they made
PoolRamen@reddit
They were probably at their peak when I was a kid (70's) and I still can't remember an actually valid reason why they existed
Amazing-Visual-2919@reddit
I went to school in the 70s and we never got them. Probably for the best as I'd definitely have fallen off them.

For fun

I left primary school in 2019 and have fond memories of these. Surprised I never managed to injure myself with them though
elhazelenby@reddit
I loved these! 2001 kid here
DameKumquat@reddit
Skilts? There was a big craze for making them in the early 80s. Never had them in school though.
Competitive_Pen7192@reddit
Are they a metaphor for pulling yourself up by the boot straps?
Probably lost on primary school children...
strong-sandwich-okay@reddit
Yep! Best thing is swinging them around their heads until they get taken away.
DeadlyTeaParty@reddit
Yes! . My 4 and 6 year-old cousins have them in their primary school. Their mum told me about them as I had a pair myself as a child, I think she did as well.
ZaharaWiggum@reddit
Yes, theyโre very popular. Donโt last long though.
WolfyMelon@reddit
Yes I teach at an International British school in Germany and we have these in the Primary school playground! ๐
