Because they haven't actually looked into the controller past the images they've seen on reddit. This has more functionality and buttons than a standard $70 controller, no idea what they're talking about when they say the other ones are better.
Definitely, the new steam controller has some crazy tech in it, I think it has more gyros than a Wii motion plus remote, plus more buttons, plus the crazy ghost buttons.
Because they cost $50 less and aren't exclusive to only being used on $$$team like this controller, which has no xinput.
Don't get me wrong, if you USE the trackpads, I doubt there's a controller that is going to have better trackpads than this, but I also doubt anyone that uses trackpads that much are going to be the same people that only play games on Steam.
I literally got this information from this interview with a valve programmer, which is as much as I looked into it, coupled with this is exactly the same as the first steam controller in terms of connectivity/functionality.
"The Steam Controller is designed for devices that use Steam. It works with Windowsand with Macs, but Steam has to be running. Otherwise, it's seen as a hybrid mouse/keyboard input device. (Even on a PlayStation, it's seen as a mouse. The exception is Linux, where Valve has a driver in the kernel with gamepad functionality).
That's not to say you can't play games purchased outside of Steam — you can add most titles to Steam using the "Add a Non-Steam Game to My Library" option.
But wouldn't letting the Controller work out of the box with more devices and without Steam better follow Valve's PC gaming ethos? Griffais said there are other considerations.
"We're limited in what we can do with things like core operating system drivers and such, right?" he said. "Xbox controllers have built-in support within Windows itself. PlayStation controllers have a driver that they work with Microsoft on."
Of course there are ways around Valve's limitations, like GloSC/GlosSI or people making their own steam controller drivers like the github steamcontroller, but out of the box, (I guess the one difference here being if you use linux, where hypothetically it should work as a generic gamepad) no, the steam controller will not work with xinput, and you're not going to be use it without Steam.
So you can still use it on consoles it just detects it as a mouse, then that begs the question is any functionality lost from just using it as is on consoles? and I can't seem to find any information on that part.
If it's being detected as a mouse on console, it won't do anything except allow you to navigate menus on the console itself, or just to navigate apps like netflix and such.
If it's being detected as a mouse on console, it basically means you get a cursor on screen and a maximum of 2 buttons function. Most console games don't have mouse input at all, so you can't play them. and unlike with pc, it's not something you can just get an easy 3rd party patch to fix.
Reddit single handedly keeping Valve hardware sales afloat. Only the dorks on here would buy the god awful steam deck. I couldn't imagine being caught in public playing that device.
No, but I don't feel good bullying overly pedantic children online. You're posting. I'm posting. This is post about posting. OP is an acronym for original poster, or, original post which presupposes there's posts that come after it. I'm sorry I used vocabulary that troubles you.
Yes. I'm making fun of your proclivity to be troubled by change, which is a huge tell. Thank you for verifying. Your resistance to change does not make me wrong. This is one of the rare cases where you're not incorrect either. These words mean essentially the same thing and are used interchangeably.
"Post" and "comment" do not essentially mean the same thing. I thought that the difference was quite trivial, but I'm struggling to find simpler words to explain then to you. At the bottom of the thread (if you're using the app), you'll find a box that says "view all comments".
It does not say "view all posts". What does that tell you?
Words can mean basically the same thing and are able to be used interchangeably. For example, retard is another word for autistic person, but it's impolite so I'd never call you retarded.
For example: Here's a post about thread topics and what you call the chain of replies.
You didn't answer my question, but now I have a new one: Does it genuinely not faze you to mock autistic people for something they were born with? Do you actually think it's appropriate behavior to bring up the word "retard" in your attempt to insult an autist for being autistic?
This isn't Facebook, nor is it an image board. This is reddit, and posts have comments.
It allows you to play games you would need a keyboard and mouse to play like factorio or any rpg like bauldersgate or rouge trader. I kinda want one just so I can lay in my bed and play factorio on my tv.
If it came cheaper i still wouldnt want it, the way id have to hold that controller would be different from what im used to doing, and i just dont want that
It seems to be bigger than average controller, it also has ps controller layout and trackpads of questionable necessity, so if someone used xbox controllers all their life(like me) they might find this uncomfortable
ControlThat8187@reddit
It's objectively a better controller then the console controllers that sell for 150$+
Superspookyghost@reddit
It’s not even better than some console controllers that sell for $60 unless you just really really want trackpads.
ControlThat8187@reddit
Why do you think they're better?
Captain_Kuhl@reddit
Because they haven't actually looked into the controller past the images they've seen on reddit. This has more functionality and buttons than a standard $70 controller, no idea what they're talking about when they say the other ones are better.
Rodeo9@reddit
Plus you don't have to use some shitty app like the 8bitdo controllers to be able to map and use the back buttons. That's pretty nice.
ControlThat8187@reddit
That's what I found out also, I think they're console peasants
Din_Plug@reddit
Definitely, the new steam controller has some crazy tech in it, I think it has more gyros than a Wii motion plus remote, plus more buttons, plus the crazy ghost buttons.

They also haven't actually used the touchpads. They're thinking of shitty laptop track pads. Theyre great on the deck.

this is completely wrong, do you even research or do you just follow whichever social media retard that spouts out opinions that 'sound' right?
You are mistaken

Why would I want peasant controls for my PC

Blud thinks d-pad is the best way to move his character

Blud thinks integrated aim assist due to extreme control limitations is good game design.

Who's going to buy this shit (other than completely idiotic people? Darwinism at that point)
zrock44@reddit
Who's going to buy what is most likely going to be a comfortable controller with a lot of features? Gee I wonder
DarvX92@reddit
It's an overpriced piece of junk.
zrock44@reddit
And you know this how?
DarvX92@reddit
Common sense.

Ah, I thought you had even one reason. My mistake.

I don't get why they made it in such a narrow angle, it would be way better with a wider angle.

Presumably since my birth, I believe it's mostly genetic. Why?

Kk. Just troubleshooting communication issues. Have a great day.
