Stellantis announces they will be making no more cars and hoping no one notices for a little bit.

You can't have losses if you don't produce anything

The new Giulia is of no interest to me and a change of power plant is going to change that. Controversial to say in this sub but a stylish Alfa EV is probably more interesting than whatever generic Jeep 4 cylinder they throw in this mess of a project. I'm sure quafrifolio owners will feel differently but the 4 cylinder turbo in most Giulia's isn't a very memorable power train.

I absolutely get it as 2.0 owner. It’s the looks and driving dynamics that keep me coming back.
My expectation is the next-gen Giulias and Stelvios will get the new Hurricane 4 on the base trims. My hope (and it’s a lofty hope) is that we get the Hurricane 6 SO as an option.
Wouldn’t be surprised if the Quads get either a revised 2.9 or the Hurricane 6 HO.
Lancer876@reddit
Please 2.9, if Dodge can bring back the Hellcat they can bring that back
ob_knoxious@reddit
A Hurricane 6 would actually be cool and I hadn't even considered that being an option. An updated 2.9 wouldn't really be that interesting because it's mostly the same engine in a heavier and almost certainly dynamically worse crossover.
I also have no idea how EU emissions regulations will play into this which may make those engines no longer viable without hybridization, which I can't see Stelantis investing in.

Did they ever actually show anything about the EV Giulia? All i remember is that they said next gen was going to become a crossover...
Vhozite@reddit
AFAIK they didn’t show anything in terms of pictures but it as supposed to be on the STLA Large platform - the same platform as the Dodge Charger. Based on that alone it would’ve probably been awful.

Alfa Romeo Delays is a word combination I've seen so many times in my life as a car enthusiast. At this point a car being released in its initially scheduled release window is a bigger news story than yet another delay.

The pivot to "We're an EV only company now" IMO - is the greatest litmus test on if your auto CEO has any actual critical analysis skills at all, or just does whatever they see other CEOs doing.
Its amazing to me how many executives across multiple industries are incapable of doing anything except following mangment trends in their industry - you are seeing it in full force in the AI boom - few ask themselves "is this the best move for us"
CashKeyboard@reddit
I know r/cars always likes to pat itself on the back with that insight but expecting an EV-only lineup was a reasonable choice at a time when we really didn't expect the biggest western market to catapult itself back in time on purpose.

If anything, reversing course seems a bit short sighted and a litmus test for what OP was saying
Dan6erbond2@reddit
I'm really happy with my Junior Elettrica. Sure it could have a bit more range/faster charging but for a shared platform I think it's great.
Recoil42@reddit
Stellantis never said they were an EV-only company. Only the Alfa brand was going to go EV-only, and when they made those plans, it was a reasonable choice — this is a response to consumer demand trends, but it's also a response to the rolling back of subsidies and regulations in the USA.
V8-Turbo-Hybrid@reddit
EV plan is still needing, but not letting whole brand becomes EV only.
