I was explaining to a millennial friend that I had a different Nickelodeon era than her.
When I mentioned shows like Clarissa, Salute Your Shorts, Hey Dude, and Pete and Pete, she only knew Clarissa.
truefriend29@reddit
I watched those shows that u mentioned except for "Pete and Pete" because I had never heard of it.🤷🏽♂️📺
Squatch1982@reddit
At least they knew Clarissa. She was my first crush.
Sithstress_@reddit
I swear, Melissa Joan Hart played a teenager for like 30 years 😂🤣😂.
Kalel42@reddit
The superior Nickelodeon teenage camp program.
budrow21@reddit
There was also Hey Dude. Anything else?
truefriend29@reddit
"Salute Your Shorts" aired every Saturday afternoon on American Cablevision (now Spectrum) cable channel 34 in my hometown of Kansas City. It was a good show. When I had started watching it, I had just started attending a summer camp some 22 miles away (it was daytime only).👦🏾👋🏽😊☺️🙂😉⛺️
Unfair_Respond_175@reddit
Hey dude wasn’t at a camp, it was a ranch and resort
synister29@reddit
walkinghrviolation86@reddit
I loved this show so much when I was a kid. I always thought it was better than shows like Pete and Pete or hey dude.
that1tech@reddit
Awful… waffle…. Awful. Waffle. Awful Waffle!
captcraigaroo@reddit
Unfair_Respond_175@reddit
They never really explained what an awful waffle was. From what I could tell it was just holding someone down and pouring syrup on their stomach through a tennis racket
deowolf@reddit
Shout out to Bobby Budnick for keeping his mouth shut and saving humanity.
BK_0000@reddit
But his mom and dad were the ones who saved the world from Jon Lovitz.

Bobby B wasn’t a snitch ✊
winobambino@reddit
Awful Waffle! Awful Waffle!
karaloveskate@reddit
I know I watched that show. But for the life of me I don’t remember a single episode.
Ill-Percentage-3276@reddit
I'll just be over here, in the corner for kids whose parents didn't get cable until we were in high school.
aprillikesthings@reddit
My dad stole it, back when that was a thing you could do if you know how to solder and could get your hands on a cable box.
(I think by the time this was airing, we were paying for it. But before that, nah.)
RelevantNothing4653@reddit
Budnick had a great mullet then great long hair.
Was it ever said what ZZ stands for?
marcos_MN@reddit
Wasn’t one of the kids named “Donkey Lips?”
It sounds so much dirtier thinking of it for the first time in over 30 years.
mattinjp@reddit
Michael Bower. Yea, he was a nice guy… I think right around 2010 or so, I spotted him working at a gift shop in the Universal Studios city walk in LA. “Out of this world”, I think the store was called?
Anyway, cool dude… happy to chat about his work, growing up doing movies and TV.
Aggressive_Walk378@reddit
Who then went on to become Farva

Holy shit

Aw bummer
Turbulent_Tale6497@reddit
Dan Schneider agrees
Numerous-Release-773@reddit
What was with summer camp in children's entertainment during the '90s? I swear every third children's book, movie, TV show involved summer camp.
That said, this show is an all-time classic.
ARazorbacks@reddit
Our parents were always trying to get rid of us.
ARazorbacks@reddit
As a kid I thought this show had endless episodes. It’s two seasons, maybe twenty total episodes.
It was always a highlight of the tv lineup.

Sam from Diff’rent Strokes and T2 😂
squarebodynewb@reddit
I get so confused by this sub sometimes. Never heard of a lot of the shows mentioned here.
GoldTreasureFinder@reddit
Anyone remember the ice cream episode 😆
JonnyQuest1981@reddit
Came here to say this. Budnick and Brain were left behind on a field trip(?), they do a puzzle upside-down and break into the mess hall freezer to eat all the ice cream. Probably my favorite episode because it’s when the bully and the smart kid find common ground while left alone.
blacktrufflesheep@reddit
His name was Michael. The blond haired kid.
JonnyQuest1981@reddit
I'm thinking of Sponge, but that's the episode when Sponge and Donkeylips went to wrestle, right? Michael was the one left behind with Budnick and he was considered the main character IIRC.
blacktrufflesheep@reddit
Michael & Budnick got left behind when they both faked being sick to get out of swim class. It turned out that was the day Ugg was surprising them with a trip to the beach. That's when Donkey Lips gave a cop half of a peace sign.
Firebolt164@reddit
It was always this show and Hey Dude back-to-back on Nickelodeon. So many happy hours
edasto42@reddit
I love that John Connor’s best friend found a summer job after all that robot warfare. Since Arnold, Willis and Kimberly got most of their dad’s inheritance, he was struggling with petty crime before landing that summer camp job.

Which also starred Christian Slater who was in Murdsr in the First with Kevin Bacon.

As a young kid I found Dina to be quite beautiful.

Same! I’m straight but I remember wishing I looked like her!
lakatos_intolerant@reddit
Nothing wrong with that! She looks quite stunning today in her late 40s.
EastCoastDizzle@reddit
I bet! I also read somewhere she an attorney now too? What a queen.
lakatos_intolerant@reddit
That's right and she is. Total queen.

I was a little younger than these kids, so I always remember them as "big kids". It always blows my mind to see these pics of them as literal children lol

I met Michael Bower (Donkey Lips) one night in Hollywood.
He was super cool and nice about me geeking out and answered all my questions about SYS.
kaizencraft@reddit
Same but North Hollywood (Pit Fire). He's got a YT channel where he goes live and talks about conspiracies and being on a show as a kid, etc.

We didn’t have cable when I was a kid, so I missed this completely. I tried watching it as an adult, and it must not hit the same. I think this is one of those things you had to be there for.

It blew my mind learning this show only aired for 2 seasons from 1991 to 92. They aired the reruns for so many years afterwards.
Fuckin_Hipster@reddit
I remember sitting at home and watching the premiere on Thursday, July 4th, 1991 at age 8.
jynxthechicken@reddit
Me too. Same age even
sick_of-it-all@reddit
You know Budnick was in a band that Steve Vai put together? They're called Bad 4 Good, and all the members are teenagers. They did a cover of a Thin Lizzy song called "Nineteen", and I kinda love it. Here's the music video, this is the best quality that exists on youtube. Their guitar player is like a child prodigy, I think he was like 13 when they recorded the album.
menunu@reddit
We had so many iconic tv shows that only lasted a few seasons!!
drainbamage1011@reddit
It's crazy thinking back how it felt like so many of these shows were on the air for 5+ years, when really it was just a couple seasons, repeated endlessly.
SeanOTG@reddit
I'm a 77 guy, don't remember this, was this a early 90s thing?
