Careless_Pie_803@reddit
I thought it was a quart of milk.
pianoplayerforhire@reddit
When I was a kid, I thought it was "a potato and milk".
Grouchy_Vet@reddit
My favorite when I was little was the Ladybug Picnic.
I just loved it
sherrib99@reddit
I have been saying this to myself so much lately…
EmbarrassedAge7612@reddit
Reads this. Now standing in the grocery store with a confused look and trying to remember why I’m here.
Imadethis23@reddit
Fantastic memory!
SuperTomServo@reddit
A loaf of milk, a container of bread, and a Joe Dirt DVD.
pepsi-perfect@reddit
Tell me you watched Sesame Street with out telling me you watched Sesame Street….💕🤣
Shell-Fire@reddit
I always head: a loaf of bread, a gallon of milk and a stick of butter.
ScreenTricky4257@reddit
And for me it was a loaf of bread, a carton of milk, and a stick of butter.
Legitimate_Jump142@reddit
Same for me
DatGuyatLarge@reddit
The sound on my TV was so bad, for decades I thought he said “A Loaf of bread, a potato of milk, and a stick of butter” and I’ve spend so many years wondering wtf a potato of milk was, until I finally heard it clearly.

So good.
Shot-Collection-6656@reddit
For me it was “Day’s work chewing tobacco” - My grandmother sending me to the corner store to get it for her. 😆
Backhanded_Bitch@reddit
I was just thinking of that the other day. They used to send us to the store to buy groceries “a loaf of bread, a carton of milk and a stick of butter” times have changed for sure.
StrictFinance2177@reddit
I'll remember to stop at the local market after taking my llama to the dentist.

quart, half gallon, gallon? I think it was a qt of milk, but not totally certain.
Better_Occasion_5718@reddit
Nope, OP got it right. This line got burned into my memory for some reason.
amsurette@reddit
And a note for the cashier to sell me cigarettes for my Mom!
Diogenes-of-Synapse@reddit
I did it without all that lol....
South-Log-6536@reddit
I hear that in the little girls voice ☺️
Diogenes-of-Synapse@reddit
Yep
Flababulous@reddit
Peter Griffin unlocked this one for me a few years back.
Of course, he had it skewed within moments, but still...

Fabulous-Metal-1972@reddit
Classic!
Streamjumper@reddit
A loaf of butter, container of bread, and stick of milk.
I know because I've been repeating this to myself since I was told so I could make sure I got it right.
Container of butter, loaf of milk, and stick of bread.
classicsat@reddit
Make things easier, just buy a box of ready made french toast.
DramaticErraticism@reddit
This was like my first taste of ASMR type feelings. Something about the way they repeated the list was very pleasant to my brain.
SweetBasil_@reddit
Did people really call it a container of milk?
ClutchCargo59@reddit
If mom says bottle of milk, and the store has cartons (or vice versa), she might not get any.
AuntDany01@reddit
Oh my God. I was like, "why do those words mean something to me???" Thank God for the Seasme Street link!
This post blew my mind!
flyingcaveman@reddit
I don't remember butter being sold by the stick.
kent_eh@reddit
Apparently, only in (parts of) the USA.
It confused the hell out of this young Canadian kid.
I was picturing a glue stick filled with butter...
ChronoMonkeyX@reddit
They made something you could buy to make a stick of butter work that way, so still valid.
no_kimmer_only_zuul@reddit
Jesus, that mandala effect! For years I thought it was a QUART of milk. Wow.
Tim-no@reddit
Me too!
unkytone@reddit
I always thought it was a “potato” of milk.
KuchDaddy@reddit
OMG, same! I was unfamiliar with urban dialects.
dadofsummer@reddit
I remember her pronouncing it as ptainer of milk
app279@reddit
I’m pretty sure it was a carton of milk.
KuchDaddy@reddit
A "containah" of milk.
cbrworm@reddit
This needs to be spoken by the original Disney Storybook record voice actor, then used as a sample for house music. Only a few of us would understand what was happening, and those of us that did would go crazy!
ajaxthelesser@reddit
I think it was actually a “sticka budda”
darktideDay1@reddit
came here to say this!
countered_measures@reddit
Argh. Wow. I had that in my head for several elementary school years. Hot damn
GregoryEAllen@reddit
I remember the Porky Pig version: a loaf of bread, a bottle of milk, and kids get in free!
Fazaman@reddit
A loaf of bread, a bottle of milk, and * come straight home!"
Mysterions@reddit
Has this ever been sampled? I can't think of any off the top of my head. But it would have made a great sample for a rap song back in the day.
HatlessDuck@reddit
No, it's
A loaf of bread, a jug of wine, and thou!
ScottishCrazyCatLady@reddit
As someone from Scotland the Stick of Butter always confused me, because out butter came in more of a rectangle.
kent_eh@reddit
Canadian kids were also confused by that American-ism.
ManageConsequences@reddit
It confused me because no one sells a single stick of butter!
Baby_You_A_Stah@reddit
The supermarkets where I lived didn't. However, EVERY neighborhood shop allowed you to take out a single stick and only buy one of the four pack. Haven't seen that in a while. All those little mom and pops have been replaced by Dollar General in my county.

Funny because this is the first time in the 8+ years that I’ve been on Reddit that I’ve seen this.
brinehart-cincy@reddit
Made reference to that with Mom for YEARS. If I did it today, I think she and my siblings would still get it!
ExtraAd7611@reddit
Is this a Carnac the Magnificent answer?
Br00klynBelle@reddit
Nope, it’s a Sesame Street cartoon reference.
