What They’re Not Telling You About AI

You’ve probably heard that AI is going to change everything. The version you’re being told is that it’ll be like every other big technology. Some jobs go away, new ones show up, everyone adapts, and we’re fine.
I don’t think that’s what’s actually coming. And I think the people building AI know it isn’t.
Elon Musk has said for years that AI is the biggest threat humanity has ever faced. He’s said no job will be needed. Sam Altman runs OpenAI and he’s said similar things. So have the people running Google’s AI lab and Anthropic. They say it on stage. They say it in interviews. It’s not a secret.
Then the same people show up the next week and tell the public AI will “help” workers and create new jobs and everything will be fine. Both can’t be true. The investors get the honest version. You get the version that keeps you calm.
Here’s what’s different this time. Every previous big technology, like tractors or computers, still needed people to run it. AI is the first one whose whole selling point is that it doesn’t need a person in the loop. That’s what the trillions in investment are betting on. If it works the way it’s being built to work, it doesn’t create a new layer of decent jobs above it. It deletes the one we have.
Try this. Open ChatGPT or whatever AI you use. Ask it: “Is universal basic income actually possible at the level needed to replace lost middle-class jobs?” It’ll tell you the truth. The numbers don’t add up. The political will doesn’t exist. The money has to come from taxing the same companies and billionaires that can move to another country in two days. It is not happening.
But here’s the part nobody talks about. Even if some version of UBI does show up, it won’t be a free cheque that lets you live your life. When the government holds your food money, they hold you. Live where you’re allowed. Travel where you’re approved. Don’t say the wrong thing online. Don’t show up to the wrong protest. The payment can be turned off with one click. Combine that with digital money you can program to only work in approved places, and they have something no government in history has ever had. The leash.
What do you actually do. The honest answer is doing nothing is the same as letting it happen. By the time you can see it happening, the window has already closed. AI drones, mass surveillance, autonomous weapons, all being built right now. Once that’s locked in, regular people don’t get to push back the way they used to.
And here’s the trap nobody wants to name. The West can’t just stop building this stuff, because China won’t. Whoever wins the AI race controls the next century. Slow down and you lose. Speed up and your own government ends up holding the leash. There is no clean way out.
So you reposition while you still can. Stop building your life around being a paid employee, because that is what’s getting deleted. Own real things. Build something that’s yours. Get out of debt. Learn skills AI can’t easily copy, things that need your body, your judgment, your face, your hands, your trust. Stay flexible. Hold cash. If you’ve ever thought about starting something of your own, do it now.
I don’t want to be right about this. But I’d rather sound paranoid than stay quiet. Judgement day is coming.

What would be some useful skills that "AI can'tt easily copy"?

this interview is hilarious & shows ai for what it really is

I will watch this in a bit, but let me tell you about a channel called FatherPhi. He is a young man on YouTube and will test all of these AI: Claude, Grok, Gemini, ChatGPT and ask them to tell them how many Rs are in strawberry and ask them to count down from 100 to 0 by threes and where it stops and how it cannot do these simple tasks. And how it lies. That’s the one that gets me the most is how blatant it lies.

This interview is just the sheer economics of it & what a ponzi scheme it is.

No matter who wins, owns or builds AI. We all know it'll be hacked by the dark side anyway.
Recommendation: the InsideAI channel on YouTube. Watch the vids in chronological order.
CountryRoads2020@reddit
That is an informative channel.

i do see a lot of open suggestions to go into a more hands on trades, as fast as possible. i think the anthropic dude payed for a very large article in the new york times suggesting this.

Can A.I. be held accountable for its mistakes? This is the question you should be asking. Like really serious bad bad things.
Bombing school aged kids.
Giving school aged kids bad advice leading to suicide.
Destroying the natural world.
Ionno are we just going to watch this miserable technology ruin the world around us?
Hobotronacus@reddit
Not even the rich are held accountable for their mistakes, no way AI will be.

What makes you believe they are telling the investors the truth?
They are almost certainly also being lied to.

Here’s a few tips to help you understand this quandary.
————————————————
It’s not and never has been about jobs.
UBI was never anything other than a meme and a small footnote in early 2020s culture wars.
Andrew Yang was a Trojan horse for AI acceptance. “Well, if there’s some kind of basic income, even if it’s just $1,000 or even $300 monthly, that softens the blow of everyone losing their jobs because at least then every person living can start a business or something” 🙄🙄🙄

It’s best for you to think of AI as a gigantic finger, like the ones you see in Reddit memes these days.
Think of it as a giant finger, whose sole purpose is to point at a computer.
The computer did it.
It wasn’t the elites.
It was the computer.

Oh, what is “it,” you ask?
“It” is the intentional, calculated, strategic depopulation of the entire planet.
The first to go will probably be any societies that survive primarily on fish.
It will work its way from the poorest villages into the wealthiest suburbs.
Into the minds of the smartest people you know.
It will be sold as “sensible,” not as “brutal”.
You will be manipulated into being “thankful” there are robots with machine guns “dealing” with your proverbial neighbors.
One less mouth to feed.
————————————————
It was never about jobs.

"Open ChatGPT and ask it "blah blah" it'll tell you the truth"
If you're telling me that AI will tell me the truth, that's better than anything that's happening right now. You've convinced me that I want AI in my future.

Fuck AI
professorhojoz@reddit
Saying that someone will "win" the AI race is inane. True AGI will act on its own regardless of who "invented" it. They just want their logo on the end of the world.
