Where do fat 12 year old boys get clothes?

Or adults who are short and stout!
I'm a 5ft5 adult man and getting clothing, especially anything smart is an actual nightmare. Anything short enough assumes I'm also the size of a twig and I like steak pies too much for that to be true.
In the US the secret code seems to be looking for 'husky' boys clothing but we don't seem to have an equivalent in the UK. Does anyone have any ideas?
OnTurtlesAndThings@reddit
Buy clothing in the right size around your body and shorten the legs?
If you don't have the skills you can take them to any clothes alterations place and they'll shorten them for you, it's also a relatively easy skill to learn.
AirlineSevere7456@reddit
If you have Levis shop, they adjust jeans for free and it doesn't matter where you bought them.
OnTurtlesAndThings@reddit
Is this true in the UK? Because I purchased jeans from a Levis shop less than 6 months ago and they offered that I could pay a fiver to them shortened while trying to sell them to me (their short ones are still too long for me, I opted instead to buy some that were long enough to turn over a couple of times as that suits my style)
AirlineSevere7456@reddit
Maybe it's changed then, but I definitely had them fixed for free about ten years ago.

Fellow short guy here who's also stocky and I've never found buying clothes an issue in the UK. 30" leg jeans but all tops fit me fine in standard sizes.
SKPep_@reddit
30” leg? You’re a giant
semicombobulated@reddit
Huh? 30 inches is short leg.
SKPep_@reddit
30” would cover my toes lol

AirlineSevere7456@reddit
I'm 5ft9 and have short legs but a tall torso, i'm the same height as someone 6ft when sat down. Buying trousers and jeans without having to get them adjusted is always a pain.
b135702@reddit
I'm a short woman and I just started hemming my own trousers! I also find the next kids section sized actually go quite high and fit sometimes
Rude_Rhubarb1880@reddit
Our fat 12 year old steals his clothes from middle aged midgets and none of them have done shit back to him, they too scared
trv09@reddit
You've hit on a classic UK clothing nightmare. The term you're looking for, especially for school uniform, is Plus Fit or Sturdy Fit. For adult clothes, a lot of brands don't use a specific term but the principle is the same. M&S and Next are your best bets on the high street for offering different fits
Banes_Addiction@reddit
Must be fun coming up with these terms. Have you tried our rotationally symmetric range? Do you have this in hard boiled? I'm looking for a hibernation-ready jacket.
escoces@reddit
The nation is calling out for a major retailer to release a flump-textured range.
heyitsed2@reddit
Wear 3/4 length shorts as trousers?
08148694@reddit
Buy quality clothes a bit too big/long and have them altered
It’s expensive up front but they’ll last years
Remote-Pool7787@reddit
For stuff that has a unisex look, go for ladies items. Hoodies, sweatshirts, jogging bottoms, plain t shirts, straight cut jeans etc
Lowkeyspacepunk@reddit
I have a similar problem! I shop at Bad Rhino and Big Dude Clothing. Sometimes you have to roll or hem trouser legs, but it's super easy to do
Gullible_fool_99@reddit
Jacamo is quite good for me and I am a fat bastard.
letsshittalk@reddit
I got my usual 2XL from them, and everything was way too big. Fifteen years later, I’ve grown into it all. I’ve got XL hoodies that are now too short in the body but still fit fine otherwise.
XStaticImmaculate@reddit
Jacamo was my go to as well back in my fat bastard days too.
LordJebusVII@reddit
I used to buy everything from Jacamo but they have greatly reduced their range for larger sizes in recent years. You're fine until you hit 2xl and then your options become very limited.
For anything smart you don't really have a choice to but to find a tailor, a budget option with proper fitting from a tailor is going to be far cheaper than buying and sending back clothes that don't fit from lots of other places online and there are very few high street stores that stock larger sizes. I'm 5'6" and wear 5xl shirts and have never seen anything above 3xl in a store. A few places have market stalls or charity shops that have had some options but nothing you can find reliably.
For casual wear I have never found anything to replace Amazon. When it comes to t-shirts and the like they actually have good selections and decent quality available, but I've found that sellers tend to move on pretty quickly so buy more than you need when you can because you don't know what will be available to you next time

A top level comment (one that is not a reply) should be a good faith and genuine attempt to answer the question.
Glittering_Win_5085@reddit
Learn to take up the bottoms of trousers to the right length. Not super complicated. Then you can focus on getting the right waist size in a material and cut you like. Or just buy longish shorts I guess.

Online. Jacamo.
HealthyRhubarb5800@reddit
Im short, pretty chubby, and wear almost exclusively blokes clothes. I just shorten everything. Chirts thatre comfy on my shoulders have to be tucked in to a oid looking like a dress and sometimes rolling up the bottom of trousers looks ridiculously bulky unless i cut the ends off then fold it over to cover the ragged edge (if i cant be bothered to hem them).
Ive been getting into graphic ts which is sad because the graphics are usually so low they get tucked in to the trousers, since they assume i have more torso space than i do.
Usually more expensive but sometimes masculine clothes designed to be gender neutral or for trans guys are designed shorter

Spits tea out, thanks 👍
YouCantGiveBabyBooze@reddit
I wonder if, in the history of people saying they've spat tea out, how many, if any, actually spat any tea out.
Etheria_system@reddit
Do you actually want children’s clothes or are you looking for adults clothes that fit your size? Your title is confusing
Quirky-Sea2149@reddit (OP)
I would like to be able to find jackets and similar that fit. The sleeves and shoulders are always the killer.
I figured my best bet was probably looking for stuff aimed at stocky older kids/teens before a growth spurt as it'll be the right height.
Thankfully there's a fair few suggestions in thread that are aimed at adults too as I'm not looking for dinosaur/minecraft themed clothing or whatever it is kids wear these days.

Consider an actual menswear place like Slaters. When I was a lot bigger they had loads of stuff and the staff could point out what looked good on me
TheDuraMaters@reddit
Slaters do free alterations on their suits/parts of suits.
brokencircles@reddit
I can't sing Slaters' praise enough to be honest - at my biggest it was always a case of just buy what I could fit into and the big chains didnt give two hoots really. Slaters had an actual person talking to me, suggesting things, as well as a good range of stuff. It's important to use these services too, they're dying out

Sewing machine. My 5ft sister takes up pretty much all her trousers as they don't make womens short enough for her.

Jacamo?
Also Amazon is very good for casual clothes. I get lots of Tshirts from there and they do even do "big and tall" sizes.

Might need to go on line:

One of my friends is 5'6" and the secret code seems to be that most things marked as 'cropped' seem to fit him well. Try Abercrombie, they are decent for basics and do a ton of cropped styes and things in various lengths.
Sixforsilver7for@reddit
It probably depends how fat but M&S kids goes up to 16 year olds so might be worth trying. H&M used to but now it seems to be 14years.
It's also not that expensive to get trousers taken up.
Crack398@reddit
I remember this issue when i was a teenager. I was about that height and very skinny. Everywhere assumed that if you were skinny you had long legs and if you were fat you had shorter legs. So i could never find a short legged and skinny waist combination of jeans. BHS (british home store) was the only place i could get trousers/jeans in my size. Its not as much of an issue these days with other places. I'm a couple inches taller than back then but definitly a lot fatter.
rickypapen@reddit
Try Ruler of London, Asket (pricey) and Uniqlo.
KitCarter@reddit
Husky clothes are called "Generous Fit" over here and really aren't as available as they should be.
Honestly would advise looking online like Jacamo or finding somewhere to get clothes taken up/in.
Try an actual menswear place for formal wear like Slaters.
They take measurements and do a tailoring service onsite so they will definitely be able to sort you out
KitCarter@reddit
If you are just looking for trousers, I'd check out supermarkets.
They generally sell school uniform in "generous fit" most of the year, though they'll probably have the most choice in the summer before the schools go back

I had a part time job in an M&S menswear department in my student days and having spent many many hours sorting their stock I'd say they tend to be a good option for "short and stocky"

I recommend you go on a trip to Thailand. You can get all your cloths custom made
VirtualBee7681@reddit
Abercrombie - the athletic fit jeans are great and a lot of the tops have a more boxy fit, no too long in the bigger sizes.
Bit pricy but the quality is decent and there’s always sale items
MrPogoUK@reddit
Same/opposite problem for tall and skinny, so anything long enough is like a tent! I assume they carefully measured someone about 5’9 of average build and then just scale the entire garment up or down, assuming weight increases or decreases along with height.
frusoh@reddit
Peter Manning NYC for smart stuff.
Free delivery to UK but you gotta pay delivery for any returns.
YouCantArgueWithThis@reddit
Maybe Chinese clothes? I mean, I am an average height woman (5'6), and sleeves and legs are always short when ordering from Temu or Shein, etc.
Low-Captain1721@reddit
Do a Google search for online retailers ?
In a couple of cities I've lived in they used to have Big n Tall man shops but haven't seen one for years.
I'm 6ft & used to be a 4xl Long & had to order online. Being a L or XL now absolute bliss 😃

"Excuse me, can you show us how to operate these pants?"
rocketscientology@reddit
Tailoring would probably be your best bet? Not a 5’5 man but a 5’6 woman who likes to shop in the men’s section and I tend to just size up and then get stuff tailored.
Uniqlo offer an in-house tailoring service for trousers that is extremely affordable, and otherwise I take t-shirts to my local dry-cleaners and get them to crop to the correct length so that it fits my bust and arms without that “long and tight over the hips” look that happens when you buy men’s shirts without being built like a lanky ironing board lol.

Would like to know, 5ft 4" with a 44" chest, 30" waist and an xs torso legnth does not make for easy shopping, either clothes are skin tight or I look like I've raided my dad's wardrobe.
mirthandmurder@reddit
Asos and Boohoo do large sizes for men and women. It's mostly online though.
