I learned recently about “singular purpose containers”. Basically police can search containers that are commonly known to store one particular item (if that item is controlled or restricted, ie not supposed to be in possession of an individual). For example—a person is pulled over and the officer sees a backpack in the car, they can’t search the backpack for a gun without a warrant or probable cause. If instead of a backpack there was a Glock branded black pistol case the officer could search it for a pistol because it is a singular purpose container in plain view.
Before I learned about that I would have looked at this post and thought it was cringy larpy shit…now, at least it’s not singular purpose containers

Yes, it is my understanding that basically the cop needs to be able to articulate the cause for the search, so a certainly gun case or (probably?) even a backpack with firearm stickers could be searched during a traffic stop. However there are also limits to what a cop can do one the firearm is found, I think this video has a bit of a click bait title but a fender discussion.

I live in Texas and all my firearms are legal so I have relatively little to worry about, but I'd still prefer to avoid finding myself in any and all unnecessary discussion with a cop on the side of a road.

Texan here as well. Only time I've been pulled over I had three rifle cases in my back seat. First question the cop asked was where I was headed. Said the name of the range and he got super excited and started talking about how much he loved that range.
Like you said, it's an interaction best avoided, but I'm glad to live in an area where the cops may be friendly about firearms.

I use an old tennis racquet case for my Extar EP9 braced pistol. I doubt tennis racquets are a highly prized item that thieves look to steal. I know new racquets are expensive but I doubt pawn shops pay much for a used one.

I looked on Savior pages to see if it was TSA approved but did not see it mentioned. I would think it would be approved as long as one used locks that did not allow it to be opened up much.

Yeah I've never used one, but I can see that being the use case. TSA doesn't specifically approve or deny certain cases, just specifies lockable hard case. So yeah you're right, as long as it can't be opened enough to access the contents while locked, it's good to go.

I found out we throw away high quality foam at work and have been taking it home. I redid my gun cases with it and I just wish it was black and not white.
I looked into replacing the foam for my cases a while ago and it was insane the prices on it. Like you said, you can just buy a new case and get the foam for about the same price.

Black plastidip spray can sprayed close and heavy will put a nice rubber layer of black over it. Only have to do the visible side or you could do all of it

I've never done a rifle, but you can buy enough plucky foam to do this for less than $50. I did it with 4 pistols and a briefcase.

Yes. $110 for one of these wood ones and about $130 for an abs plastic one. Cello, cases are about $180. Then you just need your own foam.

Kinda of foolish to have anything "in plain sight" that could give cause for suspicion..a simple picnic blanket(if you wanna throw off wrong scent) or any blanket securely covering your firearm if for some reason they are in plain sight. Unless cops got probable cause with a warrant to search your good. Other then that you should never leave for firearms unattended in the car. Preplan your range trips. Home and back.

I like this one a lot. As a guy with both guitars and a rifle in a rifle unfriendly urban area, this legitimately looks like a guitar case, whereas the Savior is simply guitar shaped. No point half-assing something.

in savior’s defense, i’ve actually got two guitar cases made of similar material. my Washburn guitar case definitely would fit right in with them.

I'm not down on Savior, I like their rifle bags and they make quality stuff, I just know that a halfway trained eye would spot the guitar shaped rifle case for what it is. Law enforcement at a traffic stop? 8/10 times at least. Like, I know I'd recognize it out in the wild and I'm not one to be looking, covered in band stickers or not. The cedar mill however is indistinguishable. For me, I view it the same way as putting in effort not to print if you're doing CC in a constitutional carry state. If you're going to make an effort to be discreet, exercise effective discretion. If not then it's moot. I find it valuable for if I'm road-tripping and dealing with hotel rooms and to avoid advertising to my neighbors that I have anything remotely firearm related.
That said, use the equipment you have within the budget you set, I know the savior one is less expensive so if that fits the requirement, don't let anybody tell you otherwise. I'm just here providing critical feedback for the sake of the topic of the post.

Many instrument cases also use abs plastic. The trumpet case I had decades ago had an abs plastic case.

Just an FYI, soft padded guitar cases do the same "discreet" job if you dont need a hardcase, decent ones can be had for $50-80 on amazon.
I got into shooting rifles a few years ago and still have never bought a "rifle bag" just because I have so many soft guitar cases, and IMO one with a real guitar brand on the bag is going to be more discreet as well.

I am not sure how the 43" CFM case quality compares to the Savior Ultimate 45" guitar case that has a MRRP of $230. The Savior have 6 latches versus the 3 this one appears to have.
