What do you think about politicians that are two sided like Vucic in everything?

This was hard watch especially because of his arrogance but we could say that this guy doesn’t have opinion about anything
Kelemandzaro@reddit
He represents us as a country and our position is that we don’t hold to any principles, and we in general don’t like the west. That’s all, 70% of people here agrees with this creature.
Old_Passenger7@reddit
As a Serbian I don't care is he playing both sides or not,
my problem is that if you are opposition (or just vocal about voting opposition) you are target of secret services, police, masked hooligans, your house will be vandalized, all media in country will call you worst names and you may end up in jail for no good reason.
Country is spending so much potential and resources just to keep him in power, and only value that system is rewarding is loyality to this guy. Most of his minsters are super dumb people who are super-loyalists to him.
Primary-Screen-7807@reddit
I am a Russian and I have no opinion about Vucic (although every Serbian person I know hates him), but your comment resembles what Putin for about a decade before he started playing "big politics". Just praising and rewarding loyalty as the biggest virtue, eventually forcing institutions to become loyal puppets of the corrupt but overall moderate regime. Then at some point the regime became not so moderate anymore.
Korin23@reddit
That’s just autocracy it works the same in every country
Double-Weight-6395@reddit
Theee is no regime that will serve to all, and where everyone is satisfied.
Primary-Screen-7807@reddit
You point being?
Defiant-Strength2010@reddit
What do you think happens in other countries? How many countries stayed moderate during that same period of time? Vučić is currently one of the biggest moderates in Europe, he is one of the last true neoliberals.

Literally what Trump is doing right now in the USA and what Erdogan has been doing in Turkey for a long time.
Desperate-Figure-992@reddit
Vucic is mostly fucking Serbs & their future. Trump is more like Putin cause he's fucking a lot of countries over by being such a petulant yet dangerous retard (Putin is def smarter than Trump, I just mean re: external harm)
Kmyre5@reddit
This was also the Orban-Fidesz playbook, the just were a bit more sophisticated
Defiant-Strength2010@reddit
Yeah, and as was recently proven in the Orban-Fidesz case, they were after all just moderates who congratulated their opponents for winning the election and moved on with their life, preparing for the next election.
Kmyre5@reddit
What is being proven is that they were running the state like the mob, stealing everything that's not bolted down. Chances are they will fade to obscurity by 2030, thankfully.
Defiant-Strength2010@reddit
That's moderate politics for you, chances are this new administration is just Fidesz in a different suit, but it's not proven yet so we can still dream.
bobo6u89@reddit
He can say that cuz old people watching tv can't understand while he's talking chinese.
Daseagle@reddit
He's a politician that knows the one truth of international relations: countries don't have friends, countries have interests. In some, alligned into one direction, in others in some other direction, or both or none.
Scumbag he might be, but a necessary one.
PartyMarek@reddit
I don't really understand your point. He knows the truth about international relations and yet he's disliked by most of Europe? He supposedly balances directions but he mostly seems pro-Russian and anti-EU? I don't see how he's "necessary" in the current world.
Aulawabe@reddit
I wouldn't say he is dissliked. He gets more funds and investments than Montenegro, Maceonia and Albania combined. That says something.
Aggressive-Kitchen18@reddit
The playing both sides is the smartest things countries like serbia can do. Ukraine had played it well until the West pushed for the Maidan Coup and tipped the balance of power.
You want to play both sides as to make yourself as valuable as possible.
albo_kapedani@reddit
Alistair Campbell takes millons from Edi Rama to advertise in his programme two dumb "progressive" brits "what a great, good, democratic and progressive leader Edi is". A two faced politician like Vučić being interviewed by a two faced so-called journalists/podcaster like Alistair Campbell. The rest is politics is shitshow hypocrisy on steroids.
AntiKouk@reddit
Did he actually do prop work for Edi??
albo_kapedani@reddit
He has done and still. Helped the PS campaigns from 2013 onwards. But to continue cheering him on and repeatedly saying in his podcast that "Edi represents the New Labour, progressive, democratic values... blah, blah, blah" (or something along those lines is beyond mental and ludicrous.
He even read out, in his podcast, a letter by the detained major of Tirana Erion Veliaj and went on attacked the SPAK (the Spacial Anticorruption Structure). This for the first time ever is investigating, detaining, judging and imprisoning politicians, officals and oligarchs.
Campbell is by far a stupid man, he's just likes money.
MEMEACOUS2020@reddit
I knew I'd fine something odd about these "journalist", I have such suspicion of journalism nowadays, You literally can't take anything at face value, you'd be dumb to take things seriously let alone listen and hope they speak truthfully. If what you say is true it definitely adds more to the video.
Traditional-Lion7391@reddit
Anyone who joins his party gets benefits. He has no supporters, only people on his payroll. The corruption in Serbia is on all levels of society because of him and his employees. He literally thinks thats how it is and it will always be, he just does better than anyone else. Appart from when infrastructure built by him kills people. And everything is kinda shitty in Serbia.
crivycouriac@reddit
His speeches make him look much nicer than he is
Shqiptar89@reddit

Commercial-Dish5093@reddit

katakombajn@reddit

This_Lion5856@reddit
That's his whole schtick, he is just grifting towards whoever hands him money.
They are literally selling ammo to Ukraine and Russia, getting EU funding and getting Chinese loans all at the same time.
Also buying Bulgarian coal to burn it in Serbia and then sell it to the EU. The dude is willing to sell his mom to the highest bidder as long as he can make money out of it.
JovoNanovo@reddit
There is more to this story. In June 2025, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić announced a halt to all arms and ammunition exports. The decision came after Russian state media reported on Serbian weapons exports to Ukraine, emphasizing that Serbian-made grenades were being used to kill Russian soldiers.
However, despite the suspension of arms exports to Ukraine and other countries, Serbian independent news outlet 'Radar' reported that arms exports to Israel intensified in 2025. Vučić once again seized opportunity to profit from ongoing wars, this time in Gaza.
nemamkarmenisambot@reddit
All of the people in this thread saying he is a master politician are just plain and simple fools. He is just a liar, and a bad one at it too - he tries to muddy the difference between quality of democracy in Russia and EU, when the interviewer says "But we are more democratic than Russia, right?" he says "OK". Plain and simple OK. That OK means "Yeah so my standard spiel of talking bullshit in circles is not gonna work here, abort, abort! Let the sheep who like the idea of a well spoken autocrat spinning western media around his finger have their fodder, stop before they get to ask more on this subject!"
When the other interviewer says "You sold munitions to Ukraine and for some reason refuse to talk about it", he plainly and simply LIES and says "No I did not". How stupid can you be to read anything else out of that? Yes, he did sell munitions to Ukraine. This is the plain and simple truth, no matter how you spin it.
And then comes the final, biggest lie that nobody but Serbs even care about "I was doing my job, selling munitions to different countries, because we need to earn money to feed our workers". His corrupt system is not feeding anyone; he is importing workers from the east because he wants to drive down the bargaining power of a Serbian worker looking to get paid. He is importing competition for "our workers".
This is more lies than a toddler caught with their hand in the cookie jar can spew out in one minute and a half. Don't be sheeple, don't graze the propaganda just because your grandma thinks he is "a very handsome and well spoken man"
Defiant-Strength2010@reddit

impaque@reddit
Books will be written on how he was able to play all sides for so many years. He promised everything to everyone and is such a virtuoso in the sense how slowly he's acting on those promises. Magnificent manipulator of not just Serbs but the international community as well.
Training_Shine_111@reddit
It's not that difficult. Serbia is just not such a significant country in geopolitics. Same goes for Croatia. Why do you think that EU was so up in arms when the Russians implemented the "family law" and was almost silent when Croatia implemented something similar?
Yugoslavia has been successfully dismantled, the countries aren't significant threats to neither the West nor Russia.
edgeofsock@reddit
Books are already writen, he is just using them.

anemonaeae@reddit
I can’t think of a single politician that doesn’t play both sides. They’re all like this
Ok-Cat4471@reddit
I mean, I don't know. Which two sides does France play for instance?
anemonaeae@reddit
Oh idk like when they lecture us about liberté egalité and fraternité and then they go plunder Africa for their gold and other resources. So much for all those human rights!!! They posture about standing up to Trump and America but they’ll never really do it in a meaningful way because they’re spineless. I’m not letting anyone in the west get sanctimonious with me bitch.
Ok-Cat4471@reddit
Fraternite, liberte, egalite came about the french revolution and I think it has always been about the French, not the Africans lol.
Regarding Trump, the only real way to stand up is to not depend on the US for protection and the EU is rearming. France has been one of the strongest advocates for it. Also, they were part of those who deployed to Greenland to deter an invasion.
France seems pretty consistent in foreign policy I think, in internal affairs I have no idea.
anemonaeae@reddit
Idgaf. They talk about hating Trump and then they praise him for capturing Maduro and invading Iran. They can bark all they want about being independent of the US but in reality they will always have their noses up Americas imperial butthole
Ok-Cat4471@reddit
I don't know about Maduro, but in relation to Iran I know France was critical of it (especially because of the oil crisis generated).

I answered the question I wanted to answer. Balkan politicians aren’t uniquely evil sorry to disappoint you
Apprehensive-Box2481@reddit
Even France has to deal with both the US and China as superpowers.
Redditater_3003@reddit
Every politician is two-sided more or less. Turkey has been selling and giving drones to Ukraine, while Erdogan has good relations with Putin and the Iranian regime, but since Turkey is a NATO member, western media tend to be much less critical.
Empty-Pace-4228@reddit
He looks like a clown but the way he talks is surprisingly charismatic.
Low-Attitude-7100@reddit (OP)
Just in foreign media: in Serbian media he is pretty aggressive
BedImmediate4609@reddit
I'm not Serbian but saw him mostly through Serbian media so far, and I'm surprised by the difference. When I see him and his loyalist in Serbian tv, although I don't understand them unless someone translate, they behave like baboons (screaming, punching the table, escalating the conflict...) compared to this video.
OriginalMexican@reddit
Literally. This is just one of his schizophrenic personalities.

I have to agree 🤣 I've spent the past 8ish weeks in serbia and he's constantly on TV here and I was so over hearing him and seeing him especially during the elections. My God, he has some special charm he must save for special occasions, I watched the whole interview 🤣
Bauljamic_Arlijam@reddit
I mean populist politicians usually do. We hate him, but yes, he has his own style that has some charm. Google Hitler to learn more about that lol
Usual-Package7120@reddit
I know ya do, get him out, I support ya haha. But, to be fair, he didn't make serbia look horrible so give ole vucko some points for whipping out that charm hahaha
Bauljamic_Arlijam@reddit
These interviews are usually scripted with previously agreed questions. Lukashenko, Putin, Aliev, Erdogan etc. all of them do these type of interviews with western journalist to apeal to the western world.

Specialist_Elk140@reddit
I don't really care, I mean which side are you supposed to pick? There is no "good guy side", so you may as well play both sides. I would say that Vučić is bad for many other reasons than foreign relations.
alkorisno@reddit
It just means that his alliance is different then what his voters. In Serbia most people trust Russia more then the west, but Vucic sends weapons to Ukraine and Israel and is completly prowest.

Mysterious-Put1459@reddit
Perfect answer of a politician. Don't answer specifically, instead make it broad, vague and general. Then pivot to something that is not exactly the question at hand but close enough which you are more comfortable to answer. Throw in a few personal attacks to the interviewer to make them feel embarrassed and boom you've got the strategy nailed down

He has a VERY clear opinions and it is one that will not lead Serbia anywhere good.Despite the highways. 🙂
He both fuels and is is sustained by the bitterness of the Serbian people. Biterness over the past and present. He mixes that up with being a proud country. I belive Serbia had a chance post Milosevic to reflect over and sort their what was their mistakes and what were others. However this was not done and to this day they make choices while being bitter and resentfull. Thinking it was a rational choice. Few good choices are made in that environement.

I don't like Russia. They are a deeply undemocratic country and the clear aggressor in the Ukraine conflict in my view.
Having said that, what he essentially says is Serbia hasn't taken a strict side. They are selling things to Ukraine while also keeping communication with Putin. Turkey is doing the exact same thing but they aren't demonized for it like Serbia is.
