Taken from the High Line near Hudson Yards

These things just dont seem to have enough redundancy for those props for me to trust them.
Yaziman01137@reddit
So I'm assuming you would never fly a helicopter which has zero redundancy for its single rotor.
itchyerse@reddit
Is the flying joby related in any way to Billy Connollys story of the joby wheecher ?
Antique-Kitchen-1896@reddit
Wonder how these things are suppose to fly in icing.
LordSloth113@reddit
Better than the would in fondant.

And JRA is the West 30th Street Heliport

How was the noise level compared to the helicopter? Based on the video it sounded a bit quieter in level flight, but louder when in hover?
No-Surround-2912rt@reddit (OP)
Honestly it seemed quieter than a helicopter even when it was hovering. But it was hard to tell. With the chase helicopter and the West Side highway right next to it, there was a lot of noise.
According to Joby it’s 100 times quieter than a helicopter. But I’ve also read it’s about 20dB quieter, so that’s only 4 times…
SpoopyClock@reddit
A change of 20dB is not 4 times quieter, it's 100 times quieter; dBs are logarithmic.
onethousandmonkey@reddit
Like others, I wonder what the advantage is versus helicopters (aside from being electric). It’s not very likely these become available to regular people.
Zintoatree@reddit
It has less moving parts, so it should be a good bit less maintenance. With current battery tech the range will be limited but that's not the biggest issue in a dense city. The hourly operating cost should be fairly low for aviation stuff.
Third_Coast_2025@reddit
This is truly a fantastic time for aviation.
climb-via-is-stupid@reddit
Is it though??
Mderose@reddit
I think this was archer, but i could be wrong.

I refuse to believe that's JFK if that helicopter didn't hit anything...

I was on the JRA end of the flight
Kinder22@reddit
Do you think the helicopter feels intimidated?
