Es un Caterham original? Yo tengo una especie de imitación que el chasis y suspensión nada que ver y es de fibra, lo hacían en argentina, es una locura porque tiene un Dodge 225 slant six
So honest question, if that’s 25% second gear, what is the point of having this much power? Is the plan to race it? If so, huge respect, because this machine wants to kill you so, so badly.
Sounds about right. I rode in a 1st gen Ford pickup with a 500hp engine and that thing was NUTS. They're about 3000l s stock but the one I was in was gutted.
My dad had a 35 Ford with a 350 with a blower, around 600 hp. It would smoke the tires at 50mph if you stomped on it. Don't know the weight but it was around a ton probably. Nothing on it was heavy, no interior just seats.
Jesus, I thought the 7 was rowdy with just over 200HP... My brother in-law built this and I had the pleasure of driving it for a few years. I think I need to plan a heist now that summer is here.
Oh that sound! The feeling..... I miss my Stalker so much! Absolutely unbeatable $ to HP! Street legal and fast AF. This was at the 2008 Florida State Autocross Championships. I drove that car from Ft Myers FL to Helen GA for a week of driving in the mountains. I towed my tire trailer which I strapped my luggage down to it.
Bad decisions make for great times! We got goggles and a dry erase board to be able to talk to each other on the interstate. I wish I remembered the date in 2008 I'd look for Tail of the Dragon pics. Not even sure they were doing daily shooting back then. But ya it was epic.
Man, we have like, three or five Stalkers at every Red Hills National Tour, but I think this is the first time I've ever seen one on reddit (outside of r/autocross)
Ah interesting, I figured it was low but not that low.
I did research into seven replicas years ago. Outside of Caterham the Birkins and Bruntons seemed like the better buys at the time. Not sure if any new players have entered the scene.
My reaction when you had to correct or the steering wheel itself turned violently under acceleration. (I used to think I wanted a car like this one, but I think I actually prefer cars with predictable handling.)
Something like that is fun for a little bit, but it's just kinda silly to have a car with that serious of traction issues. There's no point in having that much power if you can't use it.
That's insane. Seriously, don't kill yourself. I had a turbo LS in a subaru legacy and that thing mostly just tried to kill you, eventually leading to me wadding it up on the freeway on a rainy day
I thought that the Lagacy would be one of the safest options for a LS or any other high powered engine, awd and all..
what kind of gearbox and rear diff did you use?
You could attempt to keep it AWD, but even ignoring the fitment issues (the crank pulley would be in the radiator) that transmission wouldn’t handle that kind of power.
IMO the best way would be to retrofit an 01E, the infamous Audi AWD transmission. Those have been able to handle 500+ in stock form.
I believe OP posted another video in another sub a week or so ago, if that's the case it's a Locost (Lo(w)cost, DIY based on Caterham/Lotus 7) with an LS.
Yeah, most of them are pretty well under a ton. Given even a stock LS is pretty much guaranteed to be over 350 and even mild mods can bump that up pretty quickly, OP's got a rocket.
Also, since this is a stalker and we can’t tell which year by your video (newer ones maybe had this issue fixed), please, for your safety, check the front suspension brackets. Because the brackets are (as with most Locosts) wider than the frame tube they attach to, this is a known point of failure. Gusseting works a trick and will keep the front wheel in place, rather than shunting you off track or, in the real world, into a pole or an F150.
Sick. Love Stalkers. I built my own using stalker bodywork but instead of the LS I tried to keep it British and put a stroked Rover V8 in it. Had to be a V8, right?

Stomp on the gas and immediately go to war with the steering wheel.

Yes it is for racing. I have 15 inch wide rears and full aero front and rear.

Have you considered using lower than usual tire pressures due to the low weight of the vehicle?
StimpyMD@reddit (OP)
I run 26psi in the rear. They are R888r in 315.
MCXL@reddit
That seems really really high. With that size and my ballpark weight I would expect you to run like 16-18. 26 is like what a passenger car recommends.
StimpyMD@reddit (OP)
If i drop below 23-24 I start to get roll over.
Noobtber@reddit
How wide is the rim? Might consider running a little stretch to help with the rollover.

I’ve owned a few pissed off GSXR’s (the biggest was 1216cc) and this would likely give them a run!
Beardo88@reddit
Id say this thing has the edge just with 4 vs 2 wheels, gonna be hard getting that much power to the ground on a single narrow bit of rubber.
OrganicSig@reddit
Oh yeah. Way high tire pressure. Lotta the Locost boys are well under 20. Can’t get heat in em otherwise.

Ok, as someone who looked at stalkers... Can I ask why you went with the LS3 instead of the supercharged 3800?
StimpyMD@reddit (OP)
I had a 3800SC one before this one. I wanted more power.
The 3800 is the 1st gen. The 2nd and 3rd gen were made for the LS.

hydrochloriic@reddit
You could attempt to keep it AWD, but even ignoring the fitment issues (the crank pulley would be in the radiator) that transmission wouldn’t handle that kind of power.
