GenX Men: Tell me About Your Plumbing
Posted by Reynard203@reddit | GenX | View on Reddit | 493 comments
So it has finally started to happen: the machinery isn't quite performing as well as it otherwise always* has, and I am starting to think about pharmaceutical intervention. I am just about to turn 51, for the record, and I did not expect this to start so early.
So, for those willing to share, how's your junk working? If "not great" is your answer, what solutions have you tried? What's worked? What has been BS? How has your partner(s) responded?
Thanks.
*at about 35 I had a brief period of losing erection during sex, but it got better.

Weiner pills do the trick (generic cialis)
The lactose intolerance and gout are a much bigger problem for me. I basically can’t eat anything now. It’s bullshit.
PeanutButterToast4me@reddit
Do other sugary foods do it too (besides lactose?). I am lactose intolerant but any fructose or sucrose (which breaks down into glucose and fructose) do the exact same thing. I'm about to go to a gut doctor for it and will probably get on an antibiotic for it. If it's *just the lactose then take lactaid pills.
Turdulator@reddit
Lactose pills don’t do shit for me. For the most part it’s only straight milk or cream that really fucks me up, even lactose free milk…. So it might some other protein that’s fucking me up. Even most cheeses are ok, except big quantities of softer cheeses.
PeanutButterToast4me@reddit
Could be a straight up milk allergy. Could also be that any sugar gets you....lactose free milk has the resulting sugars after lactose is broken down. That could mean your upper intestine tract is out of whack.
Turdulator@reddit
Other sugary things don’t fuck me up like milk does though
PeanutButterToast4me@reddit
That sucks. Guessing milk protein allergy.
Turdulator@reddit
Yeah that’s what I’m thinking too.
A bowl of cereal with milk = 2 to 2.5 days of terrible farts and diarrhea. Like clockwork.
PeanutButterToast4me@reddit
Definitely feel your pain. One cupcake (sucrose), glass of OJ (fructose) or slice of Pizza (lactose) and it's usually like 4 massive diarrhea shits all in one day about two days after consumption. Oddly, starch/glucose does not do that to me. So I eat a lot of potatoes and corn products.
MisterBulldog@reddit
Low testosterone “hypogonadism” is a real thing. Get your Testosterone levels checked
TrentWolfred@reddit
Oh, good grief! 🤦♂️
Most middle-aged men do not have testosterone levels so low as to be medically significant. Sure, it might be fun and even beneficial, in some regards, to ramp up testosterone, but don’t pretend that you’re correcting a biological deficiency.
Maybe start by cutting down on your cholesterol, alcohol, and porn intake, Trent! (My name is Trent and I’m the only T I blame for my performance issues at 45 years of age.)
MisterBulldog@reddit
Sometimes it's not TRT you need, but Clomid to signal to your body to produce more test. Clomid(*ClomiPHENE Citrate*) does that by signaling to your brain that your body needs to produce more natural testosterone instead of shutting down your body's natural production and substituting it with TRT
ProsperoFinch@reddit
Plumbing seems fine. Things rise and fall as they should. But they didn’t always. What helped?
I quit drinking alcohol. Somewhat ironic since I’m a bartender, but I basically can count the number of times I drink per year on 1 hand. Very special occasions only.
I drink a lot of water. I drink “enough” and then I drink more than that. So far I haven’t had any issues with needing to pee too much. Healthy prostate, no problems with my stream.
I meditate. Not in a woo woo crystal hippie mystic sort of way. Just a daily routine of silence, self-reflection, checking in with my mind and my body.
Regular moderate exercise. Nothing special. Just basic walking and some physical hobbies. I don’t live in the gym.
Eating way more vegetables and way less meat. Not a vegetarian, not all organic, nothing fancy. Just a rebalancing of what I eat and how much of it.
Masturbate essentially daily. Can’t say this is easy if you’re already having issues, but if you’re able to overcome that, I’ve found a “use it or lose it” principle seems to apply. Keeps my prostate healthy, keeps my libido up.
I’m thankfully able to handle my clinical depression and ADHD without medication, and I owe a lot of that to reading a lot of philosophy, a lot of meditation, and a very regimented set of routines designed to eliminate as much “friction” that trigger my ADHD. I won’t say it’s a cure all, and you’ll never hear me say that medication is “bad”. Listen to your doctors, respect your body and mind’s needs. No shame in getting the help you need. But learning how to manage my mental health without medication has benefited me greatly.
jtphilbeck@reddit
Have you read Rudolf Otto?
ProsperoFinch@reddit
Not only have I not, I don’t know who that is
jtphilbeck@reddit
He was one of C.S.’s recommended books to read. “The Idea of the Holy”. Philosophy but it definitely made a dent in Lewis’ life. Worth a read.
Sweaty-Bed6653@reddit
Husband (54) has ED. He’s a perfect weight and works out regularly. I assume he still finds me attractive but obviously can’t say for sure. I think we have a great sex life but ED meds do take some planning. I’m worried there could be an underlying issue, but when he mentioned it to his doctor they said it was probably just a mental thing. Idk. He says it happens when he’s going at it alone sometimes too. 🤷♀️ I do wonder if it could be a testosterone issue, but I can only remind him so many times to see someone about it. An updated physical is an item on his to-do list that seems to get put off all the time.
Ollyollyoxenfreed10@reddit
Definitely losing weight, exercising, and eating healthier will help. That said, if you need a little help from meds go for it. Do you have BP issues or are you a diabetic? Are you on any antidepressants or antianxiety meds? Talk to your doctor and let them know what’s happening.
ironeagle2006@reddit
50 year old male here what the fuck is an erection anymore. But mine it's more related to years of passing boulders out of my fucking thing than anything else. Plus having a pacemaker installed which means no sex anyway if you want to live. Hell a prisoner has a better sex life than me. But as my wife of 20 years has said multiple times it did the job we needed when we needed it to and we had our fun up until your body said no more. It sucks but I deal with it.
QueasyVictory@reddit
I mean, I am 53 and have no plumbing issues, however I have a spouse who is practically A sexual, in that we may have sex once per year. I am glad the drive finally went away though, as I did have some inner hostility about not having a sex life. Frankly, at this point, I think we are well past a year, and it would be so foreign. IDK, I have mentioned it a couple of times over the last few months, but not in a pressured way. Sadly, without being pretty persistent, it doesn't happen, and if I am persistent, then I feel like I'm pressuring her, so I just don't worry about it anymore.
ironeagle2006@reddit
My wife and I had a great bedroom lifestyle until my ticker decided that being normal wasn't for it.
shamwowj@reddit
Got rid of the last cast iron last year as part of a bathroom renovation, so it’s all PVC or newer.
Geechie-Don@reddit
It works excellent. I’m In excellent shape at 48. My only issue is I’ve had so much vagina (on my life, 300+ women) my demand isn’t what it was. Recently I had sex with 4 women over the course of 3 days. It took ten days for me to desire sex again. I lift weights 3x per week, do OMAD 4-5 days out the week and do long walks 3-4 times per week. Minimal stress because I’m retired (military) and do not “work”. I figure in less than a decade I probably won’t want sex much if at all. So it working is a moot point. Father Time gets us some way, somehow. Good luck.

My apologies females but I’m going to be a bit graphic here. Please don’t read due to nasty language and male locker room talk if ur easily offended.
51yo here. I’m 30-40lb overweight. By textbook I’m prolly a gazillion pounds overweight lol.
Not a doctor. Not medical advice. Just my experience I am sharing.
Been to Keith Klein - institute of eating management in my younger years. Done the work. Results do happen. But I’m not 51 with a dad bod. Errrr…somewhat of a father figure. Type 2 Diabetes for 22 years. Very well maintained. Other than when I take a steroid shot for back / neck issues. A1C runs 5.9-6.4. I’ve been on mounjaro 15mg for quite some time. Started back in the victoza days. Originally I dropped 85 pounds on victoza. And I’ve kept off maybe 40 of it.
Been on every one of the shots including ozempic, bydureon, byetta, etc….They don’t phase me much. I can still eat, or drink alcohol on the shots oddly enough. Wish it wasn’t the case. Occasionally mounjaro makes me cold. And a little nauseous. I will say if I take it regularly….it does work better. But I skip a week here and there. So I’m not as disciplined as I should be.
Big pharma tried to get its hands on me and I have recently started refusing. Via exercise. Peptides. And eating somewhat less calories and more nutritional. Lean protein, carbs in morning and lunch. Evening - green and lean protein.
Testosterone pellets (my preference) or shots have been a game changer. Go to a low t clinic or a med spa. My pcp gave me an injection every 3 weeks. Useless.
Went to a place that did it correctly (weekly) and I was ready to hump a knot in a tree. They ran me around 750-900. lol. Then I switched to the pellets. The peak is longer, more stable, and I go every few months. They keep me around 1000. The Flacid friend…in the middle of an intimate session with the wife has mostly died down. And the libido is at great levels.
Also, I’ve recently started playing with peptides. Biohacking. RETA is the new deal by Eli lily. Same as trulicity and mounjaro. But it does three receptors whereas mounjaro does 2.
Seen a lot of research and excellent results. Allegedly quiets down “food noise” in the brain well. Also seen some negative side effects when people come off of it. Not approved by fda yet. So… iffy if and when one tries to buy…what they get. Do ur research.
I believe you may need labs for your testosterone from a synergenx type place or a medspa sir. Testosterone alone. Along with riding my bicycle. Made me wake up with morning wood and it wasn’t a pee boner. lol.
Diet, nutrition, working out helps. But the testosterone…like a sore Peter, u just can’t beat it.

46 here, I took Cialis for a while after covid. I think having covid twice within a few months did something to me. After a year or so I was able to get off the Cialis and it works fine again. I recently lost 36 lbs and that's also helped a lot. I went from 238 to 202 in the past 6 months. I'm shooting for 180 but my weightloss has really slowed now so it's gonna take me a while to get there.

My weight is perfect, but I am on two antidepressants and I had chemo and radiation. Cialis works great, if you need it.
No-World-2728@reddit
Honestly things work fine for me but it will slow down as you age. Try generic Cialis. You can get it from Hims. I take it recreationally at most once a week and find it had an amazingly long half life. It just gives you that extra of what you need. Don't hesitate to try it.

Ugh, so unhappy with my doc. I finally got a blood test and testosterone was 285. She doesn’t think I need to go on TRT.
notorious_tcb@reddit
Mine said the same, since it wasn’t under 250 (I was around 270) it wasn’t low. Ended up going for the non insurance route and paying out of pocket. Worth it.

Yea. I figure that’s probably the route I need to go.

you would be surprised at how a nice tight rubber ring around your junk can really harden things up. no drugs, no planning, no anxiety. And it works until you take it off.
DoctorContrarian74@reddit
Weighed over 200 after Covid. Now about 166 lbs. doc wanted cholesterol medicine but changed diet. Double herniated discs, Achilles tendinitis, it bad and glute issues. Knee pain. So weight dropped due to breakfast diet daily of slow cooked oatmeal w bananas with skin, dried orange peel, tumeric, ginger, matcha powder, cinnamon, apple, olive oil, oats, carrots. Cup of this with homemade yogurt, berries or strawberry, cucumber and or beets. All in a ninja smoothie blender or about 20 ish ounces and teaspoon of orange psyiliunnpowder. Lunch is homemade gravlax w fresh bread, avocado yogurt egg salad and sauerkraut or kimchi. Than squash four days a week w PBJ and pickles after match. Dinner m chicken or fish w carbs. And once a quarter quarter pounder fries and coke!!

50, overweight, have sleep apnea. Started taking cialis about a year ago and it has helped with my urine flow (thoughts arrive like.....) and when me and my 42 year old girlfriend get frisky, I stay hard and can last quite a bit longer than even when I was in my 20's. My initial reason for getting on cialis was losing my boner half way through sex, but, that ex-gf was a headtrip who ended up going lesbian after being a total asshole to me. So, mentally I was kinda fucked up. I kept taking cialis at a smaller dose (5mg) and it's made all plumbing related things better.
Also. Practice kegels. That's been a game changer.

good_ol_tossaway@reddit
Well, I'm definitely not 18 anymore. I wouldn't want to go through that insanity of thinking about sex constantly.
I wouldn't say I have a raging sex drive but I do jerk it at least once a day since we have a teenager who tends to wander over our side of the place at odd hours so you never know when things might be getting heated and need to stop abruptly.
In other plumbing related news I am taking several Beta-Sitosterol Plant Sterols pills a day. I was starting to find the need to pee or the feeling to need to pee was getting a little annoying whenever I would go out on a long walk or something and even though I didn't have to go I still felt the urge. And for whatever reason the last few summers I've been getting urinary tract infections and my suspicion is it's coming from the ecoli in the pond that we swim at in the summertime and not as one nurse practitioner suspected that I'm having unprotected anal sex.
At any rate, it took a couple weeks but now the feeling that I need to pee more frequently than I used to is pretty much under control. I don't know if this is psychosomatic or if these pills are actually working but so far so good.

ChippyVonMaker@reddit
The answer isn’t easy but it’s always going to be- go to the gym, eat healthy and sleep well.
That’s it, anything else is either a temporary fix or an excuse.
I turned 60 in March and last year I decided I was tired of being fat, on BP meds and feeling like shit all the time. I go to the gym every weekday, eat healthy and started going to bed earlier.
I feel better than I did in my 40’s & 50’s. It’s life changing.

Less-Opportunity5117@reddit
Before pharmaceutical interventions look into natural supplements.
For some men n-acetyl cystine or l-arginine work very well by lowering blood pressure and increasing nitrous oxide production. Be careful about dose because it can lower blood pressure VERY effectively.
ZMA, a bodybuilder Zinc and magnesium supplement, can also help with "the plumbing"
But at your age increase physical activity also. Even something simple like every day at work walk up a couple floors of stairs during lunch or a 15 minute break or do a lap waking around the building you work at or around your block at home. Daily and consistently.
sixtyfoursqrs@reddit

Mid 50s. Diagnosed with MS two years ago. 50 lbs overweight. The good news, diagnosis led to exercising 4 workouts per week and taking daily supplements: Centrum Silver, B12, D3/K2, and creatine. Erections came back stronger than ever. No partner to enjoy it with, but…. Bad news, still 50 lbs overweight, which is disappointing.
Which-Inspection735@reddit
Have you had your testosterone levels checked? You have a lot of factors that can cause ED and that can negatively impact your test levels.
Get em checked, tighten up the diet, lighten up on the booze, exercise regularly. TRT and a GLP can give you a huge health/body recomp and get your junk in serviceable condition. Also a daily low dose tadalifil can help with that issue and is cardio protective as well.

OptiGuy4u@reddit
The good thing is there are so many solutions these days. Ask your doctor for daily cialis. (You can also order online from overseas without a script).
If that isn't enough then use a bigger dose for when you're gonna have action.
Next step if they are inconsistent or the side effects are too much is trimix. It's guaranteed and you will be like a teenager again but it's a mental challenge to get over the injection in your shaft. It's a tiny needle and mostly painless. So worth it.
imthatguykyle@reddit
I’m overweight, on BP and anxiety meds, and everything works great every time. I understand that this is neither normal or abnormal. I think it’s all a mental game, but I’m no doctor.
TakkataMSF@reddit
I'm on antidepressants and can't always orgasm (also overweight). I know a few others other antidepressants that have lost sex drive entirely, can't get it up, or, like me, can't orgasm.
Meds affect people differently. You are technically correct (the best kind of correct), but I think it's more brain chemistry than a way of thinking. Of course, I'm not a doctor either and my evidence is anecdotal.
But this is the internet so I'm sure I am 100,000% correct!
IRingTwyce@reddit

OptiGuy4u@reddit
Ask your doctor about trimix. Yes it's a mental battle to stick a needle in your junk but it's mostly painless and a tiny tiny needle. Erections like a teenager again. Be careful and go slow with the dosages and you're not gonna overdo it. Ask your doc about the antidote and having some in hand at first.

gamecatuk@reddit
I'm curious I hope you doing mind. Is it as strong an orgasm compared to when you had a penis? I know for a fact I can ejaculate and have a nice one but sometimes I have a really deep orgasm that lasts a few minutes after ejaculating which I have always thought is more like a female orgasm. Do you get a similar thing or is it completely different to either?
Pinknailzz69@reddit
Yes. You describe an almost female type body orgasm. They can be longer or shorter for depending on many things. The hormone change is quite substantial. Having no T and mostly E is a life changer (which is why it helps to eliminate the dysphoria). It takes a lot longer to get aroused and have an orgasm and in general it’s more substantial than the male ejaculation. (Interesting fact - after my orchi but before my vaginoplasty I was still able to get erect and orgasm even with minimal testosterone at all in my body - I was shocked and fascinated - nothing came out really but I was quite shocked because men the same age with balls and testosterone were ED’d). The body is amazing.
gamecatuk@reddit
That's fascinating. Yeah it seems that ED is probably caused more by vascular issues that straight up testosterone levels.
Weirdly enough I've only experienced the deeper orgasms as I have got older and generally from sex rather than foreplay. I wonder if it's hormonally linked through higher estrogen levels as men age. I'm not complaining though. Hehe..

Prostate cancer and subsequent prostatectomy led me to taking tadalafil (Cialis) as part of recovery. Within a few months I was getting better boners than I've had since early 20s.
While I've fully recovered and have zero post-operative ED, I'd still take tadalafil if business time was approaching.

Turning 58 next month and everything works great, but I exercise regularly and maintain a healthy weight and food intake.
Apprehensive_Put4319@reddit
Before you medicate, get down to your ideal weight, reform your diet, hit the weights and the treadmill. Zepbound helped me lose 30 lbs i now weigh the same as when i was 30. The initial weight loss inspired me to start eating better, putting one foot in front of then other, and within weeks was up to 15 miles per week. After a few months I got back in the gym and within one month my old lifting routine came roaring back. At almost 55, I am ripped, thin, healthy and feeling great. Never had plumbing issues but did have low T, which has hone up naturally about 200 points and has definitely made a difference in the sack. Give yourself some grace, get fit, and watch your mojo come roaring back!

I’m 57. Started using Viagra last year. I can get erect without it but it’s a matter of sustaining it throughout build up and foreplay. I enjoy getting my wife to orgasm during foreplay but it takes a bit. By the time it’s time for intercourse, my erection was gone and wouldn’t come back.
So, I started using Viagra via Hims and it works great. It feels really good to have a long hard erection again. And recovery time is really short if we want a second round. Highly recommend it.
Maga_eats_dick@reddit
Went on cialis for bph which is a secondary use case and my god… I’m 18 again. It works fine without but it is not the same as it was. But now I can hang a wet beach towel on it.

60 and in decent shape. Everything works fine but this was a freaky occurrence a few months ago. There was blood in my ejaculate. No pain associated with it but I’m thinking whoa this can’t be good. No infection or STI’s (I’ve heard you have to get laid to get those), my prostate is fine. Apparently it was just “old blood”, they don’t know the cause and it was harmless. According to WebMD the more you express the faster it clears up. Do I put myself on an every other day wank schedule and it was gone in a few weeks. Can’t wait to see what fresh new hell comes next.

Damn I (51M) relate to this one. Unfortunately I had to give up my truck in my divorce a few months ago when I couldn’t afford both rent and the mortgage. No more tailgate to worry about.

You kind of actually need a crank session every other day. Prostate cancer runs in my family, one of the known causes is irregular release of seminal fluid.
FriendRaven1@reddit
Not as hard anymore. Ejaculations aren't as powerful. And I get so damn tired that sometimes I won't cum; a small orgasm is there, but no ejaculation.
When I was a teen, I remember it being so hard it hurt, and my shots were going 4 or 5 feet away sometimes.
TurboOcelot_19@reddit
The blood pressure and diabetes combo is probably tanking your NO production which is what controls how hard you get and how strong the finish is. Before writing it off as just aging I'd look into something that targets blood flow directly. I started a daily stack with citrulline and pine bark for that exact reason and the difference was noticeable within a month. Not saying it reverses everything but sex shouldn't feel like a chore at any age
FriendRaven1@reddit
With bipolar disorder I'll have to be careful, but the benefits of citrulline seem outstanding. Thanks, I'll try it!

Please consider pelvic floors issues/ pelvic floor therapy before taking meds for this! For a lot of men, that is the issue and almost no regular doctor is going to tell you this. A lot of the therapy you can actually do at home. Secondly, and this applies to pretty much anyone, get in shape and have decent cardio plus limit your masturbation, especially at least a few days before wanting to copulate.
VeritasAgape@reddit
Btw, a great hint to know (well assume) if it's the pelvic floor is if you're in great cardio health, have a sit down job or lower back issues, and have ED. You can also have your partner do her best to see if your legs seem to be the same length and if your pelvis seems even. You can look at the 2 dimple points on your lower back right above your butt. Or just see a professional to determine this matter.
Complex-Buffalo-183@reddit

Nothing to say on the plumbing front, but congrats on starting the Zepbound. At 56, it's been transformational for me - just be patient because you can't lose it all in a month. I've so far lost 35 lbs and look/feel closer to how I saw myself in my head.
After I started, I found I drank much less - I didn't hate the taste of alcohol, just didn't feel like drinking more than a beer or two. In a few months on the med, you should see improvements in a lot of things, and hopefully that includes your plumbing challenges. Best of luck!

57m. Been taking ED meds for almost 10y. When I divorced, I kinda went crazy on the dating apps and was taking a Viagara every day. It was amazing. Like being 18 again - any time, multiple times, could last forever. Later I switched to 5mg Cialis daily when in a relationship and having sex once a day. My partner travels a lot for work now so I just take a Viagara on days she’s home. Over the first year or so I dropped 25#. Over the last few I’ve dropped another 25# which has generally helped. I was always a “grower” but somewhere in there I became a “shower”. I can’t recommend the pills enough - no matter your age.
Bibijibzig@reddit
At 50 libido suddenly fell through the floor. 55 now and it's basically gone. Really weird, I didn't expect it to go so soon. I very rarely drink, I don't exercise a lot, but do some yoga, walk and feel like I am in decent shape. I try to eat healthy and I'm not particularly overweight. I do partake in cannabis and have been a regular user but no cigs really since my 20s.
The pill gets me hard but has side effects I really can't stand. Generally, I can't control my ejaculate like I used to so now it just leaks out often without any orgasm. Occasionally, I'll get some orgasm but for the most part they're WAY weaker than they used to be not long ago. Disappointing. Also, the pill gives me heartburn. This has been true for both sildenafil and tadalafil. My doctor is useless. Shrugs, links it to age, and tells me to take testosterone pills. Glad I pay so much for insurance every month.
Even masturbating isn't appealing as it was even just a few short years ago. And now after I do it, it generally makes me feel crappy afterwards, like it's a recovery rather than a refraction. Like instead of relaxing me to go to sleep, it's like it stresses my body out now and I get much less relaxing sleep. Cock ring is now essential fap gear. Sex while infrequent, doesn't stress my body out the same way but for some reason masturbating which used to be my go to, just leaves me feeling depleted in a really weird way.
My wife is going through menopause and has nearly zero desire, we've been together a long time. I thought her libido might pick up later in life like some, but no, hers is waning too. We used to go at it like rabbits. Now usually it's easier to just avoid it and get a better night's sleep since my libido sucks now anyway and I often just end up feeling disappointed. Fortunately, my wife does know how to get off so she's usually able to finish even when I leak.
This all sounds terrible and I'll admit, it's not great. I guess if there was a silver lining, I don't crave sex much any longer nor am I really motivated by it anymore.

Those woth erection issues could try a cock ring... it helps keep the blood where it needs to be. Most days I can get fully hard, but occasionally, if I notice it could use a little more enthusiasm I'll put the ring on and whoa... fully rock hard. She's never disappointed.

It happens for all sorts of reasons and you have identified some contributing factors. But the stigma is gone. ED drugs are a legitimate tool to help us experience sexual pleasure.
I took it for a while to offer a bit of a boost rather than a cure. After a while, I no longer needed it. Part of my problem was definitely mental though I still don’t fully understand what it was.
I was glad when I was able to stop because I hated how stuffy my nose got for three hours.

55m and it was falling apart a couple of years ago. No major health issues . Had my T level measured and it was rock bottom low and started the topicals along with the daily cialis (5mg) and it not only works well but the T treatment gives me more energy than before so instead of lying down and watching TV im actually able to run around the house and get things done. Thankfully the wife is a MD so she helped me get through this episode really easily. Good luck!
ps. big advocate of hormone treatment . I had the low down on the weekly shots to the pellets to the topical and the wife recommended the topical since it is easier to manage consistent levels.

sure. 55M fairly active and golf weekly but lethargic alot. Got my numbers back at 290. 1 week of the topical shot me up to 700 and its been right there since. and its life reborn again. I dont bitch and complain about doing things around the house and I actually feel up and at em. Good luck! and yep, still a HUGE advocate. wifes uncle is 78 and has been taking it since his late 50s and he walks great, stands straight, sometimes hits the driver further than me (I avg a crappy 240 yards) and he can stripe it at 250+.

Mid 60s. I've never had a problem GETTING wood. In my mid 50s, I began having trouble MAINTAINING sufficiently strong wood until the finish line, especially since as a dutiful husband I make sure my wife is properly warmed and ready. Sometimes between commencement of prelims and the final lap, Mr. Happy seemed to lose some of his interest. Urologist said it was due to leaky valves allowing some of the engorgement blood to escape - and unfortunately common for my age range and fitness level. Exercise and every-other-day Cialis solved the problem. One pleasant side effect is that I now last longer than before, which is good for both of us. A friend had the awful back pain issue but I did not so YMMV.

Testosterone also boosts your blood production, hemotcrit I think. Leads to increased BP etc. my Dr. recommended monitoring (which I do anyway) and if we think it’s getting too high, donate blood (they will toss if it doesn’t pass screening) then we will adjust dosage, I’m on a low dose so I haven’t had any increase in BP

dinnerwdr13@reddit
There are many factors that can affect erectile function.
BP, hormones, depression, rest, hydration, stress, performance anxiety. It's not a simple formula.
In the last few years I got on TRT, which was inevitable as I destroyed my natural production in my youth by using steroids.
I also have used, and continue to use GLP1 medication. I've lost 120+ lbs, and still have another 30 or so I want to take off.
I exercise, eat fairly clean.
Right now today I can consistently get aroused and hard. But I'm not as hard as I used to be, my desire isn't where I need it. I have a subscription for Bluechew Gold, which honestly is reserved for when I know love is in the air and need to perform no questions asked, and I'm like a teenager again.
I can without it, but I'm much better with it. Warning if you do get some Viagra or Cialis or one of these combination drugs, make sure you have your heartburn remedy of choice on hand.
I say all this with the understanding that I foolishly permanently messed up my body chemistry when I was younger. My personal situation is not common and won't apply to everyone or even many.
Dry_Yogurt2458@reddit
Everything works but sometimes it wasn't as rock solid as it used to be and I wouldn't get to the finish line. I was running long distance ultra marathons of 5 to 100 miles. I cut back on that distance, and started running marathon distance maximum, with my long run at the weekends mostly being 13 miles. I also started to lift more unspend more time in the gym.
What do you know? suddenly everything was rock solid again with morning wood and regular multiple finishes.
The Dr puts it down to lifting weights rather than anything else as apparently that increases testosterone.

I’m 58. I’ve been on Testosterone shots for 6-7 years. I work 12 hour swing shift so I don’t sleep well which really affected my levels. When I had my first check on my levels my wife’s were almost as high as mine. I had brain fog, lethargic, almost no sexual desire etc. So the shots have helped a huge amount. My wife can tell if I’m late on my shots just the way I act after a few days. She can tell when I’m not myself. I’ve told all my work buddies to get their Test levels checked and at least 3 of them have went on shots as well. I also have a prescription for Sildenafil I take as needed. No ED tho but honestly the bump helps at times.
stardustdriveinTN@reddit
My doctor prescribed a generic version Sildenafil (active ingredient in the blue pills) and it fixed my "issues". Take note though... You gotta give it a 30 minute head start before results are achieved, which does hamper spontaneity. Another thing. My doctor sent my generic prescription down to my local Walgreens and it was $745 for a 30 day supply. I found "Cost Plus Drugs" had a 90 day supply for $16 for the exact same thing. I get them there now.

A couple years ago I started having trouble keeping it up. My wife and I talked it over, I mentioned it to my doctor, got a regular prescription…now my penis works fine. It takes a slight bit of planning, since it works best if I take a pill at least a hour before sex. It has removed so much of the anxiety and stress from having sex, the rush to get going while the wind is right, the stars align, and my boner is working. I just need to drink lots of water or else I get a headache the next morning.
NightGod@reddit
I'm on stimulant meds for ADHD and was lucky enough to be one of that 1-3% that has some ED issues from it (more about longevity than starting). My T-levels are great, so doc put me on 5mg of generic cialis daily and things are going great now.
For anyone in the US who is looking into maintenance level ED meds-get a script from your GP/urologist and have them send it to Cost Plus Drugs (that online pharmacy Mark Cuban started) and ask them to send a 90 day script instead of a 30 day. I'm paying under $20 shipped for a 90 day supply of 10mg that I use a pill splitter to cut to 5mg (with my doctor's approval). My insurance was only willing to give like 5 pills per month at $60 each or something stupid. Basically for what my insurance was going to charge me for one pill I get a year and a half worth of meds shipped to my door

stigbugly@reddit
Almost 61. Plumbing is solid, still have “morning wood” as often as before. Only a few times over the course of my active sex life have there been issues with temporary ED (usually from drinking too much or being tired from work). This is such an individual issue, everyone is going to be different. If you’re concerned, let your doctor know, a lot of BP meds alter erectile function even if they say they don’t. That’s what they do, open blood vessels to reduce the backpressure. If your return pipes are more open than the fill pipes, you’re going to lose pressure needed to hold things up. Try sexual activity before and after meds and see if there’s a difference (not necessarily on the same day, unless you have that kind of luck).

I'm 52 and I gained a lot of weight over the last few years, up until last year. I had congestive heart failure. I had an undiagnosed bicuspid aortic valve with severe leakage and calcification. My doctors put me on a ton of meds to get all the fluid off and to manage my HBP.
Last Summer I also had heart surgery to replace the valve and part of my ascending aorta. After all was said and done, some of the meds they had me on, and some of my BP meds that I still take have a side effect of causing ED. I never had the issue prior to getting sick, but after my recovery.
I spoke with my cardiologist about it since most ED meds don't mix well with heart meds. She gave me a daily dose version of Cialis and we adjusted my other meds around it. Its worked out well. My BP has been staying down, my soldier gets up when needed, and I'm in pretty good overall shape as of now.
I still have a bit of weight to lose to get where I really need to be, but I'm actively working on it.
PS: We tried regular Viagra and Cialis both prior to the low dose daily stuff and the regular stuff dropped my BP way too low, that was why she swapped me to the low dose daily one. The only downside of the daily one is that it takes a few days before it "kicks in". After that, it just seems to work like it did 20 years ago.

I went to the Dr because I thought I had debilitating arthritis. A good Dr tested me for alpha gal is how my health journey started. I had to give up bread and beer all cakes and candy and anything made with high fructose corn syrup. Fruits in moderation doesn’t bother me. A lil bourbon doesn’t either.

About to turn 50.
On BP meds. I drink occasionally, light to moderate.
Plumbing pressure rises when it needs to. But had a scare a few years ago when I couldn't build up enough pressure for the occasion with the wife. Decided to lose some weight, get a hold of my calories...
Tricky part. I cut one meal from my diet. I hate going to the gym. I'm more of an outdoor adventure type... Long hikes, bike rides, walking... I'm in. Talked to my doctor and they love the improvement. Down 20 pounds in the last few months.
I went to 2-a-day eating and it has changed my life. I don't need to consume 2500 calories a day, I have a desk job, so I only drink regular coffee in the morning and my first meal isn't till 1pm. Last meal 4 hours before bedtime.
Things got a lot better. We try to go hiking a lot and walking the neighborhood. Weather is getting better so we take advantage.
TLDR: Get active. Get moving. Be mindful of your daily calories. Talk to your doctor.

I recently did the same with regards to meals. For me it equates to about an 18-hour fast every day. Works wonders, not just for my weight. I'm about to turn 50 and have visible abs again. Gym twice a week, nothing crazy. I do try to walk at least a half mile per day.

46, thin, no issues. 1-3x a day, sometimes more. I believe maintaining a stable weight for thirty years and keeping alcohol use and stress to a moderate level has been helpful. I'm fairly sedentary, but I've been fasting regularly for 15+ years to maintain weight. Kinda turned into a grazer with age. You either grow vertically or sideways.

Mine works, don't use it tho. I take meds that fuck with my brain so I take cialis occasionally just to make me feel good. Weirdly after my divorce 3 years ago I have no interest in sex or relationships.
Xyzzydude@reddit
The plumbing still works but not at the frequency or intensity as previous decades. I consider it a normal symptom of aging and my wife and I are happy with how it works now as we age together. To be more explicit, 1-2 times a week down from 3-4 a decade ago.
Had the testosterone measured, it was at the very bottom of normal, doctor recommended no treatment as long as wife and I are happy and we are.

He's usually awake before me in the morning, and in the middle of the night when I have to get up to piss. I'll be 52 soon. I don't have the same virility of course, but it all works fine. The days of banging like an Energizer bunny are behind me. :-( Just have to accept the trade-off.
Any Gen X guy who says he can still bang like when he was 16 is full of shit.

My wife and I both have been on hormone therapy and thyroid prescriptions for about two years and we have a better sex life than now than we ever had. We are married 28 years this fall and met in high school so we had a long period to select from and the last 2 have been just insane. We also have been on a GLP-1 and increased walking and flexibility training so I am also in better shape now than I was at 25 (been overweight most of my life - now a healthy 240 on a musclar 6'3" frame). People that say it can get better or not full of shit, they just got their hormones, thyroid function, iron levels Vitamin D levels, etc where they should be and it is like the good old days but without any little kids running around anymore.
All that said, I love a good nap now as much as ever, but I think it's a genetic condition my dad was a world class napper as was my Grandpa

Works- although sometimes I can't get to the finish line. Saw a 60% drop in testosterone in 7 years. Just a thread above what I'd need for a legit TRT prescription. Wife sometimes asks if I'm 'okay' in the bedroom. Tried Viagra which works if you can time it right- takes about an hour to kick in. Have since introduced toys into lovemaking sessions which takes off some of the performance anxiety.

Alright I'll do this.
I'm a 1977 model, coming up on 50. I've been on Semaglutide for a while and the weight loss and other health benefits have been great. Decided to switch to tirzepatide to see if it had a few less side effects. That was a mistake. My libido went to nothing almost instantly. When I could get in the mood I certainly couldn't finish what I started.
I did some research and that is not an uncommon side effect of this particular GLP1 medication.
My wife and I have enjoyed a very healthy intimate life for almost 30 years, and neither of us are really ready to give that up. I switched back to Semaglutide and all is well again.
Talk to your doc and see if they can switch your GLP1.

I started slowing down around 51. Soft erections. Sex with my wife slowed down, but I still loved and desired her, to the point I couldn't desire anyone else. Then she passed away 4 years ago and I knew I wanted someone in my life. That's when I stopped getting erections completely. Met a new woman who is very patient and between pelvic floor work and pumping, I'm back functional. I'm not as hard as I was in my 30s, but I can at least get penetration again. Diet and exercise are key, but do NOT overtrain. Excessive cortisol will destroy your efforts.
jt2ou@reddit
What’s your testosterone levels? (Rhetorical) If you haven’t had a lab to check, you should and then have a convo with your doc of what’s the best course of action with your history and meds.

I started eating buckwheat for breakfast everyday, those Dagestani fighters say it keeps them going all day and it works because it has complete protein, unlike meat or legumes which both are missing essential proteins where buckwheat is not. It isn’t a grain, costs nothing and takes as long as oatmeal to make. I have lost weight, gained energy and though I’ve never lost the angle of attack my stamina is through the roof compared to where it was a year ago. I’m about to be 52.

There's a lot to be said for semi-frequent, like once every other day, low impact ideally aerobic exercise. When I say low impact I mean like a walk of 20-60 minutes, or whatever you can manage, at a speed that's comfortable to you but not boring.

BPH problems since my mid 40's. 5mg Cialis and Flomax. Don't tend to have issues. If you aren't seeing a urologist you should, lots of times ED is also related to BPH (or worse). My PSA's are starting to go up too, so I expect a roto rooting in my future.

Wait and see how the 'zep affects you. I've been on it for two years now and the first summer as I was losing weight, my schwanz and sex drive reverted to high school levels of horny. I had issues off and on growing up. When I got remarried 6 years ago my wife encouraged me to go to the Dr. about it. 60 yrs old. Used to binge porn for a week to 10 days every couple weeks to a month (8 months porn free!). Id masturbate to orgasm anywhere from 3 to 10 or more times a day, edging as well. Totally addicted. Gf of 6 years had lost interest due to drying up. Ended that relationship. Maybe masturbate to fantasy(in my head) 3 to 6 times a week. Try to take breaks so I regain interest in "real sex". Still recovering from previous relationship so in no hurry to date. Thanks for asking.

Ditch the booze, exercise daily (like go for long walks/hikes, maybe do some jogging), and maybe look to diet changes: there's some foods that can screw with blood pressure or blood sugar levels and those can sometimes effect ED,

Desire and arousal are still working fine. Things feel the same. It felt like ropes shooting all over the place and it was just like three drops.

Well either everyone here is a liar or you hit the cross section of above average men. I am 51, don't look it wirk out 3 days a week heavy weights, cardio, stretching. I have great testosterone and I am in great shape. I'm 6'1 193lbs, and I have seen most guys my age and they sure don't look like me. On top of that I take a boys trip every year with about 9 to 12 guys. This subject always comes up and inevitably every guy in the group has issues. I mean it still works but not every time and definitely not like when we were 16, I am calling BS. The pills work but don't become dependent on them, I use them every so often for a booster. But don't buy these comments like you are the only guy in the world who has issues after 50.

couchwarmer@reddit
Looking through comments, sounds like you've already been to your doc and had things checked out.
So, maybe it's more of a mental thing, perhaps pressures of middle age. Kids heading for college or trade school and the financial burdens that may bring? Aging parents needing your help? Work feeling less stable with all the AI and other turmoil? Current and/or retirement finances aren't where you want? Bedroom seems less exciting? Just plain feeling older?

I’m just going to be blunt, I used to shoot rope that could hit the ceiling. As soon as I turned 40 it changed to be MUCH weaker. This was accompanied by weaker erections.
I attribute it to: Stress from divorce Too much alcohol Too much smoking Being overweight High blood pressure
10 years later and I’ve since resolved all of those issues and it dramatically helped erection quality, but no return of “power” so to say, so I guess it just is how it is now.
