What clubs / social activities do you do?

My goal is to be more social this year and I’ve made small steps but I’m looking to try and make bigger steps! So I’m looking for inspiration by seeing what you do as a hobby / club / general social activity to meet people

I go to a big gay sex party most sundays.

Another running club cult member here.
Also parkrun is my favourite.
Tempted to do something with scouts
Daughters are in brownies and it's nice to have an all girl space so have reached out locally

Nothing apart from going to the pub, I want to do more but I’m tired after work. When I do have days off I go hiking but I tend to go alone.

I think casual kick abouts are the best things to be a part of if you're interested in football. No pressure to perform or be there week in week out, and of course good for you physically and mentally!

Chess. I play at my local chess club where I lose to school kids and pensioners

My kayaking/canoeing/paddleboard club has just restarted for the season. Really chill people, exercise, sometimes trips to the ocean or Lea Valley.

Running club (if you like running)

"(if you like running)"
I imagine that would help.

Absolutely, best way to make friends is doing something you enjoy.

Warhammer/tabletop gaming clubs. Provided the added benefit that when you're not in the club you can build and paint your little toy soldiers

I am part of a folk orchestra (I play the flute and the whistle), I go to storytelling circle once a month, and I have started a beginners DND campaign every other weekend, I also have started Viking reenactment training which is proving to be a lot of fun, I’m the Queen of taking on more than I have time for, but at the moment it seems to be working out well

Volunteering at girl guides, I’m also very active at my parish church and the events they have. Not into running at all lol
ialtag-bheag@reddit
Parkrun. Can run or walk. Or volunteer, its a good way to meet people.

If you’re into exercise, start off at the gym and go to a few classes. That can be quite social and a nice way to meet new people. Join a running club if you like that too and you are always surrounded by nice people.
Outside of that, music events/gigs are a good way to mingle with like minded people as you automatically have something in common to break the ice.
Max1357913@reddit
The thing is, those feel like good ways to make small talk but not to actually make friends
EyeAware3519@reddit
People always say this but I have been going to gyms for 20 years and never had anyone say more to me than ask how many sets I have left. Everyone just puts in their earphones and gets on with their workout.
marco7532@reddit
Yeah, that’s why I said the classes. The gym itself is not very social
EyeAware3519@reddit
Fair enough but even classes aren't very social in my experience. Everyone just finishes the class and goes home. I guess friendly and sociable people will meet other friendly and sociable people everywhere. Us antisocial gits just find it hard no matter the situation.

I’m in my 60s and retired. I’ve always been fit and active and enjoy walking, cycling and going to the gym - I mostly do this activities with friends and with my wife. My wife and I have close friends who we regularly socialise with - meals, coffee, pub and sometimes we go away on short breaks with them. I also have a couple of groups of friends who I see socially from once a week to once a month - we keep in touch via WhatsApp. I think it’s important to cultivate friendships - don’t wait to hear from them, try to be proactive and maybe take turns to organise get togethers.

I'm a leader at a local running club. I used to be fat and annoying. I'm now just annoying.

Bodybuilding gym. I like chatting inbetween sets and requesting music with the metal head on reception.

I'm in an online book club that meets via Zoom, and run a community book club in my home town. I also keep an eye on the local FB groups to see what's happening in the local area and go to any event that interests me: in the last year I've been to a SWRI meeting where the speaker was a local cider maker, a garden club talk about foraging, and a history group talk about a murder that occurred in a local historic property. Further afield in the nearest city I've also attended talks on Jung, and Women and Witchcraft.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I’m the least social person but starting BJJ has gave me so much confidence and the guys couldn’t be more friendly

i ride motorcycles, i have since i was 16. Most of my friends do too. We go out on a weekend to various cafes or head into the countryside. Sometimes go to bike rallies which are like festivals for motorcycles. Some of us drink together but some only do the bike thing. I also go see live music, usually rock music and sometimes with people who ride motorcycles but not always. If its a weekend gig we can make a day of it in another town with a beer and an indian. Sometimes ots big band but mostly smalller pub bands or upcoming bands. You can usually pick out the venues which put on the upcoming bands. Recently discovered my dislike of watching football is only on tv and watching my local team york city isnt a bad Saturday afternoon.
