If it's real I'm curious how good it is in real condition. Snow or dust clouds in the air at longer range
sirbassist83@reddit
its definitely real, but im also skeptical of performance.
Magix402@reddit
They've been out since Oct 24, people have done plenty of reviews on them since then š¤·
sirbassist83@reddit
i have an incredibly hard time trusting reviews these days, even from people i use to trust like hop and assfacts.
Purple_Flavored@reddit
Y no more Hop and Brass?
sirbassist83@reddit
i still like them and i still watch them. nothing specific, i just keep my critical thinking cap on when watching them. maybe its just that the rest of the guntubers have gotten so bad its hard to trust anyone.

The latency makes it useless against anything except a stationary target
Bardiche-Assault@reddit
From my understanding itās good for like a few hundred yards if that even. Not the greatest but not bad for the price.
AlphaTangoFoxtrt@reddit
It relies on thermal, getting good thermal readings at long range requires very expensive equipment. Not something Holosun is putting out.
bgwa9001@reddit
I wanna see how it works picking up something like a coyote at 100 or 200 yards at night
Open_Compote7592@reddit
Itās real. My buddy has one. Itās performance outside of a showroom is pretty poor in comparison to a traditional thermal optic. It struggles to distinguish heat sources

Lmao, is ātreat every gun as itās loadedā not a thing anymore?? It seems like Iām seeing this more and more. Brother, we had thermal scopes over 20 years ago in Iraq. I was issued one. Back then, they took a battery that was bigger than most people's cell phones nowadays LOL.
Low-Landscape-4609@reddit

I wonder how long the battery lasts because thermals eat up a whole lot of battery life.
BoxofCurveballs@reddit
I know our PAS/13D's lasted for maybe an hour or two before they needed to be fed more batteries.
Low-Landscape-4609@reddit
Yup. That's why I was wondering. I can't see technology advancing enough that they last very long to be honest.
BoxofCurveballs@reddit
I dont think the tech for thermals will advance enough to make a large difference but I could see where they make a battery pack for them like we have with our pvs-31's. That or battery tech will advance to give a larger power reserve and life.

bpaddock1@reddit
I had one for varminting, and it worked really well for jackrabbits. But when they started to move it was a 50/50 shot on actually getting hits. It works, just too slow. Iām looking to upgrade to an AGM rattler v2 25-320 for higher resolution for the same price.
TLDR: sensor array does not have enough resolution, but an AGM for the same money with better sensor.
AldoTheApache3@reddit
Honestly? I use 2x as my thermal base magnification and often wish I had 1x.
I hunt hogs in 90% thick woods and 10% open fields. Lower base zoom makes scanning way easier, so for my area, 1x would be perfect. This particular thermal unit would make actually identifying animals appropriately difficult, that alone would make it a no go.
1610925286@reddit
I just imagine the resolution is never high enough on these to make anything it picks up recognizable unless it's already staring you down. Maybe it would still somehow provide don't benefit, but I feel as if this is somewhat in search of a problem to solve. Looks cool though.
Gunsensual@reddit
It's just how optical sensors work. The very low end of sensors bins a large sensel (pixel) over 40 ms, so there's bad latency and resolution. A double resolution sensel with less latency needs to work with about 1/10th the light per sensel of this cheap product. Then you'd need more power to drive the binning, bandwidth, rendering. Price becomes exponential to quality.
So, the market only allows two options right now: Potato or Gucci.
The real problem is where these are made. IMHO no country should have a category of its military and militia gear bound to an adversarial country's production lines. Fuckers are over there building mock Ford-class carriers and mock Arleigh Burke destroyers in the desert and Americans can't stop deep throating their goods.

Juxtapophoto@reddit
you should be an indoor RSO with how tight you are
pessimus_even@reddit
Sure, I didnt realize it wasnt a full set up but Id say the basic rules still apply when youre at a gun show. I hope to never meet you at a range or gun show.

how else are you going to test the thermal as it was intended?

Historical_Truth2578@reddit
It has no barrel trigger or bcg so tell me whats fucked up about it?
Psychedelic__Cowboy@reddit
Can you spot that from 50 yards away, or does it just look like a guy at a crowded event pointing a rifle at you for no reason?
Flapique@reddit
Yeah that's a good time to recognize your environment and that you're at a gun tradeshow...
Psychedelic__Cowboy@reddit
Which is exactly the type of place where I'd expect some dumbass to have a negligent discharge while pointing a gun at someone.
There is a reason you have to keep your action open and barrel pointed in a safe direction at sporting clay events. I realize there is no barrel and no way for this particular setup to be unsafe. But there's also literally no reason to point it at people and possibly cause a scene.
HSR47@reddit
Itās also the kind of place where they go through all the displayed āfirearmsā ahead of the show in order to certify that theyāre non-functional.
Psychedelic__Cowboy@reddit
The point is that there is no reason to demo an optic by pointing what looks like a rifle into a crowd of people. I really shouldn't have to explain all the reasons why that is a bad idea even if it is not a rifle, but sure let's get into it.
Picture a bell curve distribution of IQ level, then picture a room with 1,000 people. 500 people in that room have an IQ below 100. 20 people have an IQ below 70 and have an intellectual disability.
Now pair that with the fact that the basic 4 rules of gun safety are drilled into just about everybody's head. And that this is incredibly uncommon and frowned upon, even at gun shows. You don't think there's a chance of any kind of incident happening with this? Someone hitting the deck and causing panic, calling the cops, or god forbid drawing on the guy? Even if it's a very low chance why even take it at all? Why can't you point just the optic into the crowd, and if you have to feel it on a rifle then keep it pointed at the ground?
datfreemandoe@reddit
Not sure why youāre being downvoted, all your points are valid. Just because itās a show doesnāt make the rules any different, especially if youāre a bystander 20 yards away seeing that pointed at you.
chasteeny@reddit
Yeah I'm with you on this one. Just because it's at a trade show doesn't mean to have to point a rifle into a crowd of people is - pun actually not intended - good optics
pessimus_even@reddit
Does that mean that the basic rules dont apply?
Spectrum184@reddit
It's not a gun. No barrel. No bolt carrier. No gun. Feel free to point your empty upper at me anytime you wish.
quandjereveauxloups@reddit
When I was in the Navy, we practiced with red plastic guns when we wanted to point guns at each other.
My wife just picked up a red M9A4, so I guess that's out the window now. :p
But yeah, they should have taken more steps to show from a distance that it's not a real firearm. They could have put an orange/red cap on the end so someone looking straight at it knows it's not real.
pessimus_even@reddit
Yeah, I dont see any reason not to just have it as a stand alone unit or on a board instead of something definitely gun looking.
JoseSaldana6512@reddit
Switch to decaf
Icy-Veterinarian8662@reddit
I feel like the optic could have just been demo'd standalone or mounted on a wooden plate or something, this made me uncomfortable too even though I know it's not a fully functional firearm.
Joice_Craglarg@reddit
If that made you uncomfortable, it's really easy to avoid going to gun exhibition shows.
nonamesareleft1@reddit
You expect to get flagged at gun shows? Interesting.
PlutoTheGod@reddit
Itās an empty frame, literally a holdable rail with a sight on it. Itās less dangerous to allow someone to hold a box cutter lol
Icy-Veterinarian8662@reddit
It's even less dangerous to have someone point an airsoft gun at me, that doesn't mean ai'd be comfortable being flagged randomly by something that isn't immediately obviously harmless to me
Spectrum184@reddit
How is an airsoft gun less dangerous than an empty upper? The airsoft gun could easily shoot your eye out.
Icy-Veterinarian8662@reddit
True, let's replace the ''It's even less dangerous to have someone'' with ''someone could''
Psychedelic__Cowboy@reddit
I think you meant it's more dangerous to allow someone to hold a box cutter.
Nobody is arguing that this empty frame could possibly hurt someone. That's not even the point, and nobody in the thread has claimed that.
nonamesareleft1@reddit
Not about danger lol
RealJMW@reddit
Yeah, this is kinda illuminating of how these guys really feel about gun safety. In no environment do I want someone pointing a gun at me regardless of whatever safety precaution they took
Joice_Craglarg@reddit
There's no barrel, no trigger, no BCG. I agree, it probably should have been something else, like a hockey stick or something, but it's hardly flagging.
nonamesareleft1@reddit
If I'm across the room I'm initially shocked and pissed
Icy-Veterinarian8662@reddit

DesperateCourt@reddit
At shows like this, everything from vendors inside has to be rendered 100% incapable of firing. Sometimes that's a firing pin, sometimes it's something else. In this case, these aren't even full firearms for Holosun.
Plenty of other vendors at these shows use normal firearms, just rendered incapable of firing in a different way. The NRA Annual Meeting which just happened in the past few weeks lets people carry personal fully functional and loaded firearms inside of these events, and to my knowledge there's never been a significant hiccup from that.
ImCaffeinated_Chris@reddit
What's the alternative, taping it to a hockey stick and pointing at a lava lamp?
Slowvia@reddit
Itās 2026, who doesnāt have an optic on their hockey stick at this point?
JJ12345678910@reddit
It's a demo piece at SHOT show, so not only is it not loaded, but there's no barrel. Most optics manufacturers have gun like demo units that aren't actual guns so you can try the optic out.
OleRockTheGoodAg@reddit
Pretty sure thats the NRA National Meeting in Houston a Lil over a week ago but same caliber of event.
JJ12345678910@reddit

If you're curious, I prefer the thermal. My only gripe is the slight lag.
mods_n_admins_r_naz@reddit
so uh, how do you practice with this at the range
BloodWillow@reddit
I just use the red dot during range practice.
There are three basic settings:
Red dot only (dot, circle, or both)
Thermal only (Integrated crosshairs)
Thermal overlay (Red dot reticle with thermal overlay)
The red dot is just like any other Holosun AEMS.
infjon@reddit
Wow what a gamechanger

ChggnNggts@reddit

namek0@reddit
With most optics being in "around or higher than price of gun itself" territory 2k for terminator level optic tech is pretty fair imo
ChggnNggts@reddit
yeah, altough battery life and range (about 300m here) will always be the weakness. But thermal is a cheat code and a superpower
RussianBotProbably@reddit
I have one, and paired with a 3x magnifier its decent for range. Taken a few pigs 150 yards+. It would work further too.
Malkozaine@reddit
Dumb question, but how did you pair it?
chasteeny@reddit
Magnifier goes in front of the optic, like the EOtech swivel or flip to center magnifiers. Pair just means together in this context
carsNshoes@reddit

RussianBotProbably@reddit

Useless_Fox@reddit
That's holosun for you. They're kind of the name brand of Chinese knockoffs if such a thing can exist.
ColdDeath0311@reddit
I used to buy MROs for all my subguns and Iāve switched to holosuns legit a better optic especially with the shake awake feature fact that eotech and trijcon donāt have that is criminal
Fauropitotto@reddit
I've switched everything to holosun. My eotechs sit in a box waiting for them to delaminate a second time.
singlemale4cats@reddit
Exps3 has been my primary duty optic for a few years. I love it. Probably the least parallax of any optic you can buy.
I also broke the mount being stupid and eotech fixed it for free. I'll bet they'll do the same if it ever delams
Fauropitotto@reddit
I wouldn't count on it. They charged me $79 to repair the delamination on my exps2. Between that, no shake awake, terrible battery life...
I kept it thinking I could toss it on something, but it's collecting dust.
singlemale4cats@reddit
Don't get me wrong I would never buy a second one due to the cost, but for the time being I'm happy.
I don't like the aesthetics of their new one. It also does very little to improve battery life, which is my chief complaint with them.
Useless_Fox@reddit
I love all of the holosuns I own. Have two 403Bs, an EPS-C, and an AEMS and they've all been great so far.
eggcheeseburger@reddit
Have my eyes on an AEMS. I have 510C, 507Comp, 507C, 407C, and 507K. And a magnifier.
Bortjort@reddit
When I want to know what brands of optics are doing well I look at high level (but not top 1%) competition pistol shooters. Slide-mounted optics get subjected to exponentially more force than static optics and those guys use them to insane round counts, so it's a great real life testing and eval space where the shit that doesn't work gets dropped.
eggcheeseburger@reddit
I bought an Osight in their first 4 months in the market. Great reticle quality, heavy, looked great. Died in the 3rd trip to the range. I never considered it again. I keep seeing the good reports about them now, but it's hard to pass beyond that first impression. I see people saying they are great and think to myself "that's a shill".

Itās real, but probably not as practical and functional as current advertising would have you believe. The technology for multiple imaging sources in one package does exist though.
Look at the armyās ENVG-B, for example. They use white phosphor tubes with thermal imaging combined with some kind of augmented reality that outlines structural edges and people with illuminated sharp lines.
Itās weird and I donāt know if thatās exactly whatās going on with this optic, but I believe it does demonstrate similar concepts and the fact that the tech exists for stuff like this to be mass produced.

I mean, it's going to be AI either way, you're basically just asking if this video was doing this via AI in post-processing or if the red dot was doing it via AI in real-time.
X0n0a@reddit
What definition of AI are you using?
JeanPascalCS@reddit
Anything using an LLM style processing against a data set to analyze the data and make some modification. EG, highlighting of a humanoid shape.
X0n0a@reddit
Do you think that they're running a large language model on hardware that fits inside the base of a thermal sight to do image processing?
I'd bet it's doing something a lot closer to drawing a border around things over a certain temperature, or a certain temperature difference. Basically edge detection. Notice how during the 3rd second of the video it's highlighting some part of the wall or something on the right side?
And it saves them having to train some model on people, deer, rabbits, cars, power transformers, birds, houses, hot targets, and anything else one could conceivably encounter that might or might not be warm.

There is no barrel, no trigger, no muzzle device.

Maximum_Dweeb4473@reddit

N2Shooter@reddit
It's real.
Thermal overlay at shot show.
PlutoJones42@reddit
Yo this is sick, is anyone else making these?
wlogan0402@reddit
OP was today 14 years old when he learned about thermal overlay
JamesT3R9@reddit
Wow. Just wow. Thats nuts! Whats the battery life like?

I love how Holosun got shit when they first started as an optics company, now people compare it to the future.
HerMajestysButthole2@reddit
Theres the Holosun Thermal and Holoson NV that they made this RDS in. The NV is utter crap. The thermal doesn't have enough resolution...what is it, 256x192? Meh
gunplumber700@reddit
I own one and I wouldnāt say mehā¦
I wish it had a slightly higher resolution in the 340 range, but lower resolution has its advantages.
Bardiche-Assault@reddit
This is like 7 year old technology. Steiner showed off one from 2019.

gunplumber700@reddit
lol 7 year old technology. Ā Hate to break it to you, but most gun technology is realllly old.
ArchibaldBarisol@reddit
Well it is 1/3 of the size of the Steiner and 1/4 of the cost.
Parma_Shawn@reddit
Damn it. I wish I had a gambling addiction
iwelchi@reddit
That would definitely be cheaper.
AlphaTangoFoxtrt@reddit
It's real, sight makers have been experimenting with pseudo "augmented reality" especially so with thermal and low light / night optics. Helps the shooter see the silhouette of the target better.
Timely-Fig-1304@reddit

TheHeroChronic@reddit
I would rather us a dedicated clip on thermal personally
Censored_88@reddit
Real.
Although I've not seen that specific one in person. I've used thermal outline overlay with NVG, and it is absolutely amazing.
Wish I could afford to have one my own.
Fearless_Weather_206@reddit
Howās the battery life?
AlmostAnOg@reddit
Website says up to 10 hours of thermal runtime and extended red dot operation.
CapnCurt81@reddit
Yes itās real.
