Do you have any interesting stories to do with Parakeets being in London?

Any specific interactions? Where they came from? The first time you saw them?

I took three very bored teenagers on a walk to Richmond Park. They saw a flock of parakeets which totally blew their minds - parrots! Parrots! So we kept going and ran into about 60 deer which finished them off totally. They have refused to go back again to "the weird park."

Back in primary school, the drama club used to do an outdoor play in the summer, and we would have to seriously project our lines in order to be heard over the parakeets lol.
Parakeets were my cat's second-favourite bird to watch from the window, after wood pigeons.
A couple of years ago my mum managed to take a very cool photo of a couple of parakeet chicks peeking out of their nest.

We moved to the South East from Cardiff in 2001/2002. I remember my mum running inside and being excited that she'd seen this beautiful bird and we definitely didn't believe her. When we went out and saw it, it was just magical and then our neighbour told us that they were super common. Used to walk through a park on the way to college full of them. Quite cool really.

We have a huge breeding colony of them in Surrey. Often see them when out walking.

As with many things still with us today, one of the reasons is naughty Victorians.

I saw them in Hampton Court Palace.
The deer in Bushy Park were more exciting.

We took our eight year son to the British Museum for the day about two years ago and on our way back to the car park in the evening we walked through Russell Square to Guilford Street and there outside the hotel was a large flock of parakeets flying around the trees.
On one of the balconies of the flats opposite the hotel had a bird feeding station set up and lots of the birds were visiting it.
My son was amazed to see such bright colourful green birds flying around central London. We stopped and sat for a while to watch them flying around the street.
A nice relaxing end to a busy day.

The first time I knew they existed was when I was visiting London with a friend, he was meeting up with an amateur football team which were part of the London Unity League as the company he was working for were thinking of sponsoring them.
I spent more time watching the Parakeets than the game itself, which isn't surprising given I have no interest in football.
There are quite a few urban myths about how they came to be.
Here is the Wiki page about them..
