Hiring managers, should I call the company after applying for a job?

On Saturday, I applied for a part-time job that I really want. They apparently work 7 days a week, so even though its only Monday I wonder if I should call them and ask if my application was received, not to chase but to come across as proactive? I also want to tell them I could start immediately, as the job listing was flagged as "urgently required". Or would that just annoy them? I would be grateful for the insight from people that have handled hiring 🙏

I once applied for a job that according to LinkedIn was “actively recruiting”. I received a rejection email six months later. All hiring teams are different. Even the shit hot ones aren’t on it 100% of the time, and as numbers of applications for roles skyrocket you might expect a short wait. Admin teams also don’t tend to work seven days a week, so it’s best to give it at least a working week before checking in. Did you apply via an online portal, and if so did you receive a confirmation of your application via email? Occasionally these will give a timeframe or an idea of what happens next.

While the business may be open 7 days a week, the administrative tasks might only be picked up during traditional working hours. If you haven't heard in a week, I think its fair to call and ask about the application process.

I wouldn't call to *chase* after just a couple of days. But it usually wouldn't hurt to ping an email to say thanks for the interview, I really enjoyed it and think I'd be a good fit. That's asynchronous and lets the manager deal with it when they have a few minutes while signalling your enthusiasm. If you happen to phone them at a busy or stressful moment, it could harm, rather than help, your chances. If it's been a week or more and you want to check in, I don't think that would be unreasonable.

Good recruiters will get back to you - they're just busy and will often have scheduled in interviews for the next few days. I would personally be a little annoyed if a candidate was trying to hurry me along in the hiring process so, I would say - just try to be patient. Good luck!

It’s been two days. If they want to contact you, they will. Hiring takes time and calling them won’t change anything because they’ll have dozens of applications to look through.

I wouldn't do it - I think it is more likely to come over as unprofessional than as proactive . If you haven't heard anyting by the end of the wek then I think you could call and ask very politely if they are able to gie any indication of the timecale on their hiring process
