Elon reached his social security tax limit for 2026 on Jan 1st, 2026.
Why is there a cap on that? Social security would be funded in full if there was no cap on the tax, yet we let the rich walk away witbout co tributing anything close to their fair share.
and how are neets going to pay that? always look down, never dare to look up and question them. let beezos, politicans and co waste their billions graping kids, instead of making them pay for the shitty debt they are rsponsible for.
To pay this off in taxes, rather than a donation, assuming a retarded US 35% tax bracket for someone with this high of an income, every single US resident including children, the disabled and the retired would need to earn $342,000. The median is $61,000. Federal minimum wage is $15,000 annually.
This would also require 0 federal funding the year this is done. It would also be 3x more than our actual current GDP is (if you believe inflated GDP numbers)
This is also using one specific version of the debt figure, there are others you can use that are higher than 39 trillion.
I mean socialism is charity by force, administered by the state, I guess, real charity is a personal decision, made outside the bounds of the state and taxation and obligation.
Lol, it is far from a group 'personal decision', and the state does force it - you don't get to opt out - you're going to be taxed and decisions about how this is used will be completely out of your hands for better and for worse.
But instead we have capitalism charity, where more than half of it are scams hahahh
You'd need to back that up with some evidence.
And of course rich people launder money through "charity" don't be naive.
The wealthy don't use charity to 'launder money', they use it to reduce their tax burden.
Yes the popular socialist slogan “from each according to his abilities to each according to his needs” can be clearly boiled down to “homeless people pay the same tax rate as billionaires”
It sure can. Because you are talking about rate, not exact sum. Yes, everyone has to pay x percent. For someone it would be dollar, for others it would be thousand. It can't be more socialist than that.
Fair (and not socialist) would be demanding of same amount from everyone. So for example, everyone pays 500. That payment wont be "according to abilities" because someone would pay more than he is capable, someone less.
Billionaires often pay little or nothing in taxes. They use equity in their companies as collateral for loans - which are not taxed as income. Estate taxes are avoided with Trusts and complex debt instruments.
But you are correct, homeless people are the real leeches here.
same with capitalism, when people criticize monopolies, oligarchies and centralized economies or coconut islands they equate it with capitalism or try to convince others this is the only logical conclusion of capitalism
except accumulation of power is a natural thing that happens everywhere under every economic system
nah even that is giving them credit. think about it this way, they would like universal health care but they don't because "it's socialism". so more accurately it would just be whenever the government does anything.
You could force everyone to stare at a map of federal contributions by state and by voting tendencies for 1 hour and most people still wouldn't understand what that means.
I just get curious and like checking the profiles of people who say silly things, there isn't much to it. No matter how silly something that someone says is, I can always find common ground with them on a more important issue. It comforts me to know that.
Lobbyists are the ones funneling money INTO government via clandestine back channels / clever bribery of government officials. Not the ones who get the cars.
Sure, yeah, they're well compensated, but the point is that the OP commenter clearly misunderstood where lobbyists sit within the structure of power corruption.
What are they doing with the other 25% of my paycheck every two weeks? Maybe we should figure that one out first, see if we can trim some of that fat off.
Debt barely matters to the US since the world runs on dollars. Trump is doing his best to ruin that system tho. But it’ll take a serious shift to move away from the dollar globally like ww3
If it's for ultra wealthy american citizens, wouldn't it make a lot more sense to tell them to forgive the debts? Wouldn't that be the most American thing you could do if you actually cared about your country?
If we don't give the government more money, then how will Lockheed Martin pay to lobby the government to buy more missiles so Israel can tell us where to blow up civilians?
This program has been around since the 60's, and apparently has existed in other forms since the late 1800's. What is new is that they now accept Paypal and Venmo.
Well no, you're supposed to report an accurate number on your tax return. Technically, reporting a higher tax owed on your tax return than reality is still tax fraud.
However, separate from that, you've always been able to donate extra to the IRS beyond what you owe. But this is considered a donation and not a tax.
CreasingUnicorn@reddit
At $39 trillion, and a US population of about 350 million people, it would be around $120,000 per person to pay this off.

zrock44@reddit
Donating of your own free will isn't socialism.
AlcoreRain@reddit
It actually is though.
You share what you can to those in need in hopes of the betterment of the whole society.
Capitalism is all about the fake "pull yourself up by your bootstraps".
Treat others like you would like to be treated, and think for those who come after. That's socialism.
zrock44@reddit
Socialism is forced sharing. Do you actually know this little about it?
AlcoreRain@reddit

I mean socialism is charity by force, administered by the state, I guess, real charity is a personal decision, made outside the bounds of the state and taxation and obligation.
AlcoreRain@reddit
Socialism is a personal decision by many people, and the state doesn't force it, you vote for it and it is administered according to the necessity.
Charity would be inexistent in a truly socialist society.
But instead we have capitalism charity, where more than half of it are scams hahahh

AlcoreRain@reddit
Nope, that's what happens with capitalism. In a socialist democracy you chose your representatives and their policies through vote.
Don't be naive, you are never going to get rich. Oh if they only payed the same taxes as us hahahha
There are people with trillions of dollars out there, directly influencing governments. Seriously man, look around.
FuckRedditIsLame@reddit
You're either very young, or pretty stupid if you really believe what you're saying. Either way, it's no big deal to me.
