Thinking about getting back into riding but to be honest, I'm low key anxious about it.

I can ride (had bikes/ebikes before), but traffic still gets to me,especially cars passing head on or side by side. My commute is only \~16km round trip, which is totally doable, but I can't stop overthinking about accidents or just random chaos on the road.
I’m thinking of just grabbing a cheap beater first to see how it feels. If I'm not vibing with it, I'll just sell it.
Curious how others got over that 'road anxiety'? Also, do people actually use dash cams (or Action cams) on ebikes? Worth the investment or just total overkill
The budget is around $1,500. I’ve got a shortlist of bikes here. Given my 16km commute, which of these would you pick for reliability vs. price?

Two questions for you: How tall are you, and how's the leg extension on that bike? Because all the reviewers I've watched look like they're riding a kids bike.

I'm 6'4 and the handlebars extend upwards

One thing to do is look at quiet side streets. Apple Maps has an "avoid busy roads" option if you have access to that, but you don't need it. You can make up a route that you would never do in a car, but is much better for a bike.
For a busy road, a bike lane or a wide shoulder helps a whole lot. Anything that lets the impatient driver pass you safely. Trying to drive right down the white line on the right is the worst.
A rearview mirror helps. No surprises, you can see a truck coming. I use a helmet mounted one.
Driving beside cars on a busy road, even with a bike lane, can feel intimidating. It's a matter of getting used to it, which takes time.

I try to use roads with designated cycling facilities as much as i can. I also make it a point to ride defensively b/c you really need to make people aware youre their..
If you can find and sign up for a e bike safety coarse.

I got a rear view camera, I love it, wide view you see it on the monitor in front of you - much better for me than mirrors..
People will crap on the camera.. but I feel much safer with it
And there are dashcams as well..
Brocktreee@reddit
What rearview camera is it that you got? I've not heard of any with monitors attached
