From DDR4 64GB to DDR5 32GB… or 64?

Hello, just as the the title says, can you help me decide between upgrading to DDR5 32GB or 64GB? First of all, the price difference of the 2 is ridiculous. It’s a php 30,000+ (usd 500+) difference.
I’ll be coming from 64GB DDR4 3600MT/s (4x16GB) to a DDR5 CL30 6000MT/s.
My current processes are 39%(approx 25GB) RAM used on idle, with majority of it being eaten up alive by Chrome (5GB - 7-8%) with only 14 tabs. I have turned on the Memory Saver to Maximum but this is still the case.
I was told that it is because Chrome eats up most of whatever’s available on RAM, so I was thinking if it’s okay to downgrade the capacity but upgrade the MT/s.
Help me please. :D

Since you're already considering 64gb of ddr5, wouldn't be a 60m2 flat in bigger city a safer investment?
PersonalTangelo610@reddit (OP)
I live in my owned house 😅
ravanlike@reddit
Your own property? No rent to pay? That explains how you become so rich 😅
gankernation@reddit
Use the 32gb one. Save the money and put into better GPU or monitor
PersonalTangelo610@reddit (OP)
Thank you for this, but unfortunately the reason why i’m upgrading to AM5 is i’m chasing my end game (and I have a CPU bottleneck). I already have (IMO) my best GPU and Monitor. (5090 and LG UltraGear 3440x1440p OLED 240hz) :D
gankernation@reddit
Oh then get 64gb since it seems money isn't a huge blockage 😂
PersonalTangelo610@reddit (OP)
Well, I would say it’s kinda is? Since I don’t know if usd500 or so is worth it for a 32GB difference. Also, I was able to get my setup for changing little things here and there through some time haha 😁

32GB RAM should be enough for gaming (outside of a handfull outliers) - IF you keep your background applications in check.
64GB or 2x-dual-RANKED-DIMMS (=4 banks) would give you access to memory-bank-interleaving (same time read/write per channel) and thats a CPU-performance gain in some games that scale from this feature. Its just a small 2-4% performance gain.
With a 9800x3D / 9850x3D + 5090 combo it seems a bit silly to cut corners with 32GB RAM, but if you did not manage to utilize 64GB DDR4 before with your system, you are most likely fine with what ever you get.
gankernation@reddit
Just get 32 for now unless your training ai or encoding videos all the time 32 is plenty for everything and not lag. If you want to upgrade to 64, you can do it when it's cheaper
farmeunit@reddit
This is really the answer. And honestly, if asking if it’s needed, it probably not. Windows uses what in can to increase performance. You add more, it will use more.
katzengoldgott@reddit
I would also recommend to switch your browser to something that has hardware limiters included, such as Opera GX. Could make your RAM usage more efficient so you won’t need 64 GB.

If you’re hoarding chrome tabs, 64 ddr4 is better. If you use it normally then 32 ddr5 is better
PersonalTangelo610@reddit (OP)
Would a 14 tab chrome be considered as using it normally?
Master-Factor-2813@reddit
Yes. 100+ tabs is hoarding
steakhouseNL@reddit
I went from 64 ddr4 to 128ddr5. Bought it 2nd hand for a relatively normal price. It really depends what you do… it’s a painful bullet to bite but I prefer to be future ready.
Especially if prices wont go down it will just be extra expensive.

Get a DDR5 2x24GiB (48GiB) Kit then

I have a 5090 and a 5700x3D with 32gb RAM. You definitely don't need more ram for gaming. You might see an increase of FPS at 1440p ultrawide but it won't be huge. Your 1% lows will definitely be better. I play at 5k2k, mainly SP games and the FPS increase would be negligible if I upgraded from what I've seen online.
Id honestly wait for the for AMD to release their next iteration of CPUs.
PersonalTangelo610@reddit (OP)
I mainly play CS2 nowadays, and I can’t get it to lock 240fps most of the time especially when Cache(a map from CS2) released
AbdeljalilAbdeddine@reddit
I would say 32gb is enough for gaming, unless future games will eat that ram just like chrome does. From what i noticed a kit of 2 rams is the best for AM5 cpus and on A2 B2 slots
Takane-sama@reddit
People are weird about RAM usage; there's no reason to be stingy with it as long as it's not being maxed out with active processes. RAM doesn't wear out like SSDs so there's no reason not to use it.
Windows will reallocate RAM if needed but if you've got tons of it sitting around unused it has no reason not to let processes use whatever they request.
PersonalTangelo610@reddit (OP)
Well, the reason is sometimes when I launch CS2 (my main game right now) is I get the notification of low memory available. So I am kinda scared of down grading my RAM capacity
Takane-sama@reddit
Then something seems off about that warning given that at 40% utilization even with Chrome running you have more RAM left over than most CS2 players have in their system (given most players are running 16 or 32 GB systems). CS2 isn't exactly Crysis.
If you look at other reports of people getting this warning, most of them also report having plenty of RAM. It seems to be a game bug, possibly related to page file size (at least according to reports).
PersonalTangelo610@reddit (OP)
Oh. Nice! Thank you for this!
VaultBoy636@reddit
Can you get 2x24GB for 48GB? Those are the best performing sticks and were at least before the "shortage" the best value
PersonalTangelo610@reddit (OP)
Unfortunately the stocks here are so low that there is not that much of CL30 (which I read matches the x3D’s performance) if they do have one, it’s in black D:
Due_Permission4658@reddit
doing some heavy productivity that involves ram ? get 64gb if your just gaming get 32gb hasn’t been a single game i’ve seen use 16 besides hogwarts legacy but that game is just a unoptimized mess
PersonalTangelo610@reddit (OP)
Not really. I am just concerned since sometimes when I launch CS2, I get the notification of low memory available (or something like that) and I was thinking what more if I do decide to downgrade the capacity
HERO_129@reddit
Fr takes upto 23gb
slavicslothe@reddit
All of this matters SO much less than your CPU. Please share what your old CPU and new CPU will be, in addition to your target resolution and GPU.
Edit: I see you are on a 5090 and targeting 240hz 1440x3440. At that resolution you need 16gb of ram. 32 would be a nice to have to future proof. Right now your bottleneck is the monitor. For future upgrades, I recommend looking a 4k Tandem or QD-Oled displays.
PersonalTangelo610@reddit (OP)
Apologies for the incomplete specs. Yes, I’m currently rocking LG’s UltraGear 34GS95QE-B OLED.
Hugs98118@reddit
What cpu? What's the build for?
If you're just using chrome there's no need for 64g.
PersonalTangelo610@reddit (OP)
Sorry for the incomplete specs. I’ll be getting the 9850x3D since the price difference here in the Philippines is only 4usd compared to 9800x3D. Use case is basically just gaming but I am building my “end game” PC. The one I won’t upgrade hopefully for 5 years
slavicslothe@reddit
Your monitor is the biggest bottleneck here.
Senior-Emu3469@reddit
He's got a 5090, hes gaming.
PersonalTangelo610@reddit (OP)
Haha. My dad gave it to me and I said why not 😅😆
ImVeryUnimaginative@reddit
Unless you're planning on doing something which will need a lot of RAM, get 32gb and put that money towards something else.
Silly_Word8688@reddit
ddr5
Opening_Evidence6360@reddit
I’d say 32gb
PersonalTangelo610@reddit (OP)
The DDR5 Kits will be 2x16 for 32GB and 2x32 for 64GB
