After 16 years I switch from PlayStation to PC-Gaming

I’ve reached a point where I’ve lost interest in PlayStation after 16 years.
I started as a kid with the PS3, then moved on to the PS4, and now the PS5.
At this point, it’s just frustrating that many games still run at only 30 FPS and don’t support 21:9 ultrawide format—especially annoying since I’m using a 34-inch monitor.
I’m also increasingly feeling ripped off when it comes to PlayStation game deals and discounts, as they often end up being more expensive than PC games.
On top of that, I no longer see the point in paying for a subscription just to be able to play online.
So I’ve taken the next step and built a gaming PC with the following specs: Ryzen 7 9700X, AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT, 32GB DDR5 RAM, and 2+1TB of SSD storage.
I’m hoping these specs will be enough for smooth gaming at WQHD resolution.
What do you guys think about it? Was it an unnecessary step?
I already own a mid-range ASUS TUF gaming laptop from 2023 with an RTX 4050, which is where I first got into PC gaming. Unfortunately, it really struggles when I play in WQHD—I have to dial everything down to 2560×1440.
I’ll still keep my PS5 though—especially with GTA 6 just around the corner! (hopefully)

I have the same but use the 9600. Plays a lot of games extremely well.

Quality of mods goes with the PC, you can control the mods, even run crazy third party executables making games much better (before CTG).
Neat_Breakfast_6659@reddit
You bought RAM during the RAMpocalypse
ceyzula@reddit (OP)
I checked the prices, they dropped a little 🤏🏼
Mixden@reddit
It's normal, the bubble burst but things are slowly returning to normal.
plays-with-daggers@reddit
Normal isn’t, I’m afraid.
LittleWarPiggy@reddit
Ignore these types of comments OP. Realistically we don’t know when the crazy RAM prices will be coming back down. The AI bubble will eventually pop for sure, but if you need to build a PC in the present, that’s just what you need to do.
Enough-Afternoon8011@reddit
I had similar comments when I bought a 5080. A few kept saying "Oh wasted money for x% of performance", like, bro who tf cares. It's what I wanted and I'm happy with it, just as OP will be happy with their purchase. Enjoy, OP! 🤟

9070xt build on ddr5 ram in 2026, congrats, that’s huge!
Impossible-Move-2096@reddit
Once you taste 144Hz + ultrawide, there’s no going back 😅

The only reason I have a PS5 pro and switch 2 is because they have exclusives. Other than exclusives PC is the way to go.
Perplexe974@reddit
You may soon no longer need a PS5 as there are rumors about Sony working on its own PC game launcher (yet another one that'll have a hard time competing with Steam)
PogTuber@reddit
I'm more inclined to believe the reports that Sony is ditching PC ports entirely.
They have a HUGE PS5 user base and their exclusive actually sell consoles
VanDamme007@reddit
Then there are the rumors they completely ditching PC for their single player exlusives and will only bring their upcoming live service games to PC.
ceyzula@reddit (OP)
I think it would be great if Sony cooperate with Steam—then I could at least transfer my achievements and perfect games
PowerfulAgent9939@reddit
Welcome I was also like you had almost every console, now it’s PC Gaming ftw!
Dessea03@reddit
I'm always happy when console players finally switch to PC. That's where real gaming begins. Especially if it comes to shooter games or simply modding games. Generally so much more settings you can change on PC where on a console you are very limited. Games are also very overpriced on consoles. PC-Keys are goat. We finally got one more TRUE GAMER!

PS5 is good for kids to be frank. Past 16+ withs high school and everything, you should instantly swap to a gaming PC desktop.

PC is where it’s at. Not a fan of consoles at all/whatsoever.

" an AMD GPU capable of 4K resolution display at up to 120 frames per second"
But but.... 🤣
Wrong_Ad5583@reddit
You won't regret it. You didn't mention what resolution you are gaming at. The good thing is you have left yourself an upgrade path for the CPU. If you aren't getting the frames you want you can easily upgrade to a 9850x3d although I think that rig will be plenty. New ryzen cpu's shouldn't be that far away so it would be a pointless upgrade imo.
ceyzula@reddit (OP)
At first I considered buying the Ryzen 7 9850X3D, but in the end my budget just wasn’t enough for it :')
Wrong_Ad5583@reddit
I totally get it mate. That's the only bummer for PC vs ps5 etc. Money spent can get out of control really quickly. That CPU you did buy is a really solid choice in any case. Yes the x3d CPU will be faster, will you notice it? Not sure. I run a 9079xt GPU btw and it's great. I play at 4k and it's yet to struggle with anything yet congrats on your first build and I hope you enjoy it :)

Thank you sm bro
CatTurdTamer@reddit
Congrats!
I also recently built a PC coming from the PS5 (base model). What I hate is that almost all new games on the base PS5 are a blurry mess. I have almost the same specs (9800X3D for the CPU instead though it does not really matter that much for higher resolutions) and it's really worth it. I'll also keep the PS5, but not for GTA, but because I still have a lot of physical games that I wanted to finish that I already bought lol. Thinking of adding Saros to my collection, though I'm a little bit worried since the projectiles looks a bit blurry on the non-Pro PS5 based on some reviews.
With some news/rumors about potential CPU price hikes, I think building a PC now is still a good call despite higher than normal RAM prices.
Adamska_89@reddit
Yeah, exactly my case... I started decades ago with the PS1, then PS2, had a long pause, then bought the OG Switch, an Xbox Series X (because the PS5 wasn't available), then the PS5 eventually, and the Switch 2 last year... Last week I sold the XSX and this week I ordered a custom-built PC: Ryzen 5 7500F, Sapphire Pulse RX 9070, 32 GB RAM. Can't wait to game on a proper gaming PC after all these console-only years. The PS5 and S2 will stay for exclusives and for my kids.
Mysterious-One1055@reddit
You've built a solid machine that should last you a long time bro - enjoy it!
I've always done a bit of both PC and console, some years using one more than the other. But if I could only have one, it'd be PC for sure.
FatalGamer1@reddit
I’m a PS fan and always have been and I agree with all your points. I love my PS5 Pro, it’s a beast console but it doesn’t even get close to my 5070 Ti / 7800X3D.
I can deal with paying to play online, I can deal with higher game prices but what annoys me the most is, performance. I mostly play competitive FPS games and while the PS5 Pro is capable of very solid 120 fps in games that support it, it’s powerful enough to achieve at least 144 fps. I’m not too hopefully but the PS6 has to have that 144 fps performance and some more graphics settings to be a lot more appealing.
ADo_9000@reddit
It's definitely faster than a PS5 (faster than ps5 pro as well)
Now you're just stuck with Windows, well of course there are other options, all the different Linux distros I mean.
kotaPOG@reddit
i would say you did good bro
wubbadubdub_zzz@reddit
Definitely worth it. You can change the graphics and resolution settings easily.
SituationSmooth9165@reddit
I reckon I can play on low/med setting and the game still looks better because I'm not playing at 30fps and doesn't look blurry
