Will be interesting to see if they pull it off, I can't imagine anything harder to make emissions compliant than making an engine that only keeps its emission systems happy with long hot drives run intermittently in a hybrid system.
Not to mention the extra weight of a diesel combined with a hybrid system is going to be interesting, the GWM Cannon Alpha PHEV (which is in the same odd midsize-length, full size width size the Ridgeline is) is already 2800kg/6200lbs.

I believe in gasoline hybrids, the engine runs, even if coasting downhill, when everything else is cold in order to get the catalytic converter warm.
