Mokwheel Obsidian Ebike vs Velotric Fold 1 Plus Ebike

so i live in the Bronx which has a lot of steep hills and with my weights being in the mid 300s plus the bike i don't feel safe on a folding bike but at the same time i am in a tight budget of 2000 dollars and these was the 2 options i found are these reliable? I'm trying to trust the folding mechanism of the fold 1 but I'm still skeptical. https://www.velotricbike.com/products/velotric-fold-1-plus?variant=51987166101876https://www.mokwheel.com/products/obsidian-2-0

I have the Mokwheel Basalt ST and it would be a good bike for bigger folks. The Obsidian is going to be even better. I recommend the ST (step-thru) as it's much easier getting on and off. The Basalt might work fine for you while still being "legal" at 750watts vs the 1000 watts of the Obsidian.
Mokwheel customer service is also top notch. They actually seem to care.
Do NOT buy a folding bike unless you absolutely NEED it to fold. They generally suck.

I bought my Mokwheel Basalt when I was 450lbs. I'm currently around 380.
This summer I biked 1800 miles over mountains with a trailer and a total system weight of ~520lbs.
The basalt is basically the obsidian with a 750w rather than 1000w motor and no rear suspension. You don't need either, and the 1000w motor technically is illegal in many US states and pretty much anywhere else.
If you pedal, you can get up hills and mountains just fine. It takes me roughly twice the energy to do so and I did on a lower power bike.
My suggestion is to go with a Mokwheel Basalt. I can, with certainty, say it will suit your needs.
And I can give you quick pointers on some very good quality of life upgrades for the drivetrain and cockpit and even the electrics.

Unless you are confident in your e bike mechanic skills, you should figure out what you can get fixed in a location that you can get to with a broken bike (assuming you don't have a car or it isn't big enough for an e bike). If you can't find a place that will service either one, buy used.
Fwiw, I have a velotric triker that I absolutely love and can get serviced in almost every shop in my city.

The fold one one is pretty good, I love mine and it is well powerful enough and capable. And it WILL take you faster then 28mph with the throttle alone

So you found Velotric but not the Velotric Discover 3? I’d look at the Aventon Level 4 and Aventure 3 as well.

Velotric fold 1 plus is Superior in every way the batteries are you ul listed with waterproof ratings, the ability to get the throttle up to 28 mph, at the 750 watt motor is a beast and can definitely handle anything you throw at it.

1st one has a nice step thru design and would work great with saddlebags. Looks terrific for running errands.

Dunno much about the mokwheel but I do own a Fold 1 Plus. I weigh about 180 and take it up some steep hills no prob. I'm pretty lazy on the hills so I'm full throttling and pedaling on low gear.

I got one at a local bike shop. They usually let you test ride em. Maybe you can look into that~

They're both made with bottom end components, and Chinese dropshipped mass produced frames, I've at least heard of velotric so id go with that
I work in a bike shop and have for a decade
Inciteful_Analysis@reddit
Velotric frames are very well made but folding bikes still have their limitations. You should know that.
Heavy-Literature-156@reddit
Im not saying theyre bad, theyre good, just not the level of quality and stuff id personally purchase

So you think if I find the main manufacturer I could get it for cheap? If thats even possible?
Charming-Sentence-80@reddit
i’d say get the velotric, or a jason moped or step over style ebike. The bike on the second picture is pretty hard to mount for any person because of its height
Inciteful_Analysis@reddit
I wouldn't get the Fold even though it's rated for 440lbs.
Here's a much cheaper fat tire option for $1299. Mid-drive with 130Nm of torque. Coupon code GAGT700 for $700 off. You'll be hard pressed to find a better deal or a better hill climber.
