Combining work and play

Hi. Im trying to figure out a way to save some room and use a dual Monitor setup for both gaming and work without having to constantly change monitor settings or switching cables.
I have a gaming PC 165hz using DP.
Then I have a work laptop thats connected to a dell dock using HDMI.
I want to add a second monitor and essentially be able to switch from one to the other with the push of a button without losing HZ on the gaming side. Ive looked into usb switches and KVM switches but im not sure they would work with a dock, or if i need the dock any longer. Anyone have any experience with this?

I’d go with a KVM switch that supports high refresh rate. just make sure it handles 165Hz over DisplayPort, not all of them do. Then plug both your PC and dock into it and switch with a button. Clean setup, no cable swapping.

I have the same situation.
Work laptop into dock, work mouse into dock. Dock into monitors.
PC into monitors directly. Gaming mouse into PC.
Keyboard is annoying. I have 2 USB cables on my desk, one to my dock one to my PC. I have to manually swap this every time. I’d get a KVM but they’re expensive and this isn’t annoying enough to be worth it.
Both my monitors detect which PC is on correctly and there’s no issue. This is all super simple because my separate mice and my manual keyboard swapping.

A KVM is the right device to do what you want. You would still use the laptop dock.
