Help with Upgrading PC

I am looking to upgrade my pc: CPU, GPU, and potentially RAM.
I have used my current computer for 8+ years and have had no issues, but would like to upgrade just to get more fps on games.
Current specs:
AMD Ryzen 5 3600X
GTX 1660 - GPU
16GB Ram DDR4
Motherboard: B450 Tomahawk Max
I want to be able to run games very smoothly, with about $1000 MAX budget for the three parts. I am assuming my motherboard should be fine with a new CPU/GPU. What GPU/CPU do you recommend I get, and should I get 16gb more of ddr4 ram, or just get new ddr5 ram? Is the upgrade to ddr5 justifiable for the price?
Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

You’re better off building a new pc than upgrading.
8 years is about time.
You can’t just get ddr5 ram, you will be stuck with ddr4 unless you change motherboards. But ram is extremely overpriced right now. I would just stick with 16gb for now till it lowers.
You can upgrade the processor and gpu but probably only to 30 or 40 series. Your pc will bottleneck with the 50 series cards. You may or may not also need a new power supply if you get a new gpu and processor, depending on what you have now.
But if you can add like $500 more you could probably get a whole new pc. Microcenter has some good bundles for around 500 with ram cpu and mobo.

I'd agree with the point regarding RAM one or two years ago. As of the past year or so, 32GB RAM imo is essential to gaming. And 32GB DDR4 is still fine, as long as you don't cheap out and make sure the BIOS is set up correctly to run at a decent speed.
If I were OP, I'd upgrade RAM, then PSU & GPU.
CPU & Mobo can be done later, but for now, get the PC in a position where its running.
$1000 on an 9070 XT & 32GB RAM DDR4 would be my suggestion.

For the price of ram right now if OP lives near a micro center he can get cpu mobo and ddr5 ram in a bundle for around 400-500$
Which would future proof his build a bit more, an 8 year old processor and mobo is bound to give up soon and will also significantly bottleneck if he get the 9070xt with just the 3600x

RAM isn’t just going to lower its price from one month to another tho, what I would recommend is watch out for the price changes and buy when you think it won’t go down in a long time

I don’t recommend going for ddr5 right now as you will spend like half the budget only on that which will not leave enough for the GPU

In terms of cpu's for am4 5600 (or x, but difference is small, 5700 or 5700x are also too similar in perfomance in most games) is a very good option, 5700x3d would be the best but the price is going to be near the sum that you could invest into, 5070, 9070 or 9070xt are good picks if you plan to play at least in 1440p, there's going to be some bottleneck but it's not going to be critical (at least for now), if you get am5 and 7500f later you can see increase in around 20-30% fps depending on the game

Also 16gb is enough for most games if you don't have any applications open, but some games might struggle

what psu you got?
could swing a 9070xt + 16gb ram + 5600x if you dont need a new psu
otherwise maybe a 5070/9070 + 5800xt + 16gb ram
