The world desperately needs Mr Rogers

My 80 year old mother’s this all the time & I agree.

Three most formative shows for me as a child: Mr. Rogers, Sesame Street, and Reading Rainbow.

Electric company deserves mention with those other ones. I remember that was the other one PBS. Wasn't it? Am I making this up?
Slippery-Pete76@reddit
I barely remember that, but 3-2-1 Contact deserves a mention.
Deep-Ad4351@reddit
Heck yeah it was and Morgan Freeman was in it!!!!!!
coci222@reddit
Did you know that Giancarlo Esposito is one of the kids in the choir that sing the theme song to that show?

Fred and LaVar are fuckin real ones
MilaVaneela@reddit
Yeah, same here. Even today as a middle aged woman I still remind myself that it’s okay to be sad sometimes because Mr. Rogers said it was. Guy was as close to being a saint in real life as anyone could be.

Hey, neighbor.

Lol I took a call at work earlier and I could hear the trolley sound in the background. Someone's kid was watching.

I think about him on a daily basis. I grew up around loud, alcoholic adults. He had a calm, gentle way of being that seemed otherworldly to me. I had tapes and tapes of episodes back in the day. I'm 46 years old and still watch episodes from time to time.
brighthannah@reddit
He was a parent to a lot of us
DisasterDebbie@reddit
He's the wallpaper on my work computer as a reminder to be kind and compassionate.

You have to be straight up evil to be against Mr. Rogers/PBS.
everybodys_lost@reddit
Same here.
As an immigrant kid who didn't speak any English, and was left to my own devices a lot, Mr Rogers and Sesame Street were my safe space, my comfort, my intro into the world, my first teachers.
A while back on YouTube i found that Melody Sheep remix of Mr Rogers? It literally made me cry... He was so important to me...
sleepy_unicorn40@reddit
Same. I'm reading his book about his life right now. He was a lucky man that passed it on to us. Mr. Rogers was my preschool teacher. Lol

I couldn’t watch Mr Roger’s because of the puppets. Not sure why, but they freaked me out as a kid. Loved muppets and Sesame Street though.
jambr380@reddit
Lady Elaine was pulled straight out of hell, but I was still massive fan of the Land of Make Believe. I always looked forward to that little trolley ride
impliedapathy@reddit
Was that the one that looked like a red nosed witch?
jambr380@reddit
Haha - exactly. Like she wasn’t even a bad person/puppet, but she was so scary looking. She was a little bit of a pain the ass, though, as far as characters in that land went

I’m currently formulating interventions and psycho education for various children’s mental health, neurodivergence, and systems and it’s strongly based on Mr. Rogers’s philosophy of, “There's no person in the whole world like you, and I like you just the way you are.”

I'm a better person because of him

I get it. I learned the facts of life from watching The Facts of Life.
Kiethblacklion@reddit
I learned that you have to take the good and take the bad.

I miss him. Last weekend I was dealing with a serious crisis and my youngest daughter and I watched a few episodes. He was an amazing human being and we could use him right now during this horrific timeline that has been the 2020s.
Penelopeslueth@reddit
I lived with chaotic parents. Mr. Roger’s and Bob Ross were my favorite shows because of how calm they were.

New PBS documentary about him dropped this last week: https://youtu.be/YM3Bhi70kQE?si=F6eGHyoFSuHYzxTL

I highly recommend his parenting books.
