I find that so many people have such experiences, but they are usually too afraid to reveal them for fear of ridicule. None of that on here - I am keen to read your experiences.

InEachHomeAHeartache@reddit
Is it a fan from an east asian brand? There is a superstition in South Korea that sleeping with the fan on will kill you so they have built in timers to turn themselves off.
LilKittenAngel@reddit
🤣🤣🤣 nah I don’t think so. It’s been on for longer than 8 hours before. I have a history of sleep walking and sleep texting and whatever else so I think I must turn it off in my sleep tbh. There’s been moments I apparently text people things in my sleep and don’t remember doing so as well. I don’t like it it freaks me out so I don’t sleep with a fan on to avoid sleep walking lol
UKexFuneralD@reddit
Things which can't be explained after someone has died are so common that the funeral director's guidebook (a thick tome, dry and humourless) has to refer to them. As a funeral director it was not frightening; quite the reverse, it should be a comfort to know that the spirit lives on. I didn't know what I believed about an afterlife when I went into that job, but I have no doubts at all now.

At a friend's house when we were about 15 his mum asked us to get some boxes down from the attic. So three of us went up the ladder and my friend looked for the boxes while we stood next the the attic entrance. An old woman walked across the hall wall below us going from one room to another.
"Hey is your gran staying with you" I asked "Nope she is at her house in Brighton." He replied looking scared. " Who is the old lady downstairs?" His face dropped and he shot down the ladder. We followed rapidly. There was no one there, but he properly broke down and kept shouting at his mum "see I told you, now other people have seen her.".
He is super religious and won't talk about it even thirty years later. They wouldn't let us in to the house when we called in after that. His parents still live there now.
RoohsMama@reddit
Did he ever say what he meant “now other people have seen her”? Looks like parents never did and your friend suffered a lot. Imagine being the only one seeing a ghost
lolzatnothing@reddit
I think he just meant that he had seen something before. His mum asked us to not talk about it as it upsets him. He never mentioned again and I haven't seen him in a long time as he moved to a new continent.
RoohsMama@reddit
Ok
WordsMort47@reddit
Yeah, so the friend had previously seen this apparition or entity and either the parents had but denied it or hadn't and refused to believe the kid.
RoohsMama@reddit
Yup I just wanted them to expound
himit@reddit
Sometimes they see it/experience things but pretend otherwise so as not to scare the kids further.
As a child in one house I 'knew' there was an old lady; in another, a tall bald man. Parents reassured me I just had a good imagination.
As an adult, I learnt from mum that an old lady had died in the first one & a man had had home hospice & died of cancer in the second one. My parents had experienced some really weird occurrances in both houses but played it down so I wouldn't be scared. Which is nice, but I think teenage me could've enjoyed knowing I wasn't crazy.
(I never really experienced anything beyond a presence.)
RoohsMama@reddit

I used to babysit 2 little girls, 6 and 4, in their home which was so old it was listed in the Domesday Book. I babysat every week, the girls shared a room and were always asleep when I got there, never woke up or cried any time I babysat…except once.
I heard one of them crying one evening and went in their room to check but they were fast asleep. Three times this happened; crying, I’d go in their room but they’d both be fast asleep. The 3rd time though I stood at the bottom of their beds and watched them sleep. Then came the crying again….from behind me. I did a massive inhale gasp type thing and the crying stopped….then a kid laughed in my right ear. I legged it out of there. No more crying for the rest of the evening and I never babysat there again.
RoohsMama@reddit
Imagine if you’d videoed that, you’d probably get lots of TikTok views. Just saying. In the age of social media, turn that jumpscare into a win!

Right.
I was walking up some backing between rows off terraced housing at night with a friend, this was in the early 2000s.
I saw a shooting star and pointed it out to him, it appeared to be coming pretty much straight down. As soon as it had come down and out of sight beyond the houses to the front, it went straight back up again at the same speed.
That's it really. I'm not saying it was a UFO or anything, but I can't explain it with aircraft etc. It just looked like a shooting star but a little bit slower.
sliderulesyou@reddit
I saw one of those in 2007, except I saw the moment it turned too. No change of speed or curve of angle, just kind of pinballed back on itself at around 45° and carried on. Looked like a satellite (I'd been watching a few of them) but did an impossible manoeuvre.
purplesolar@reddit
I saw exactly the same in Derbyshire in early 2020. I'd been doing stargazing most evening and had seen many shooting stars and satellites. It looked just like a satellite, same size and brightness, but then it seemed to accelerate past two other satellites before making that same manoeuvre you described. I remember telling my physics teacher about it as we were studying astrophysics in GCSE Physics around that time, but he had no explanation and I couldn't find any clear answers online. So pleased to hear I'm not alone!

ScreamingDizzBuster@reddit
The summer before Covid me and my friend were outside in her garden in north London at about 1 am, lying back in sun loungers and looking up at the sky.
I pointed out a satellite and she clocked onto it too but then said "woah" - it had looped back on itself. We kept watching it and discovered that it was performing quite a tight figure of 8 across about a quarter of the sky, with a period of between 30 seconds to a minute.
I reckoned it must a light plane practicing, but there was nothing on FlightRadar and no sound of engines (though in fairness we were in Highbury which is never silent even in the middle of the night).
And then I spotted another one, and then another. We watched them for about 2 hours and they just kept slowly going backwards and forwards in loops the whole time. Still absolutely no idea what they were.
SeesawOk1776@reddit
I saw something similar to this in about 1995! We were at the Rock and Blues bike fest in Derbyshire, out in the countryside and the stars were brilliantly visible. One 'star', however, elongated to a line in the sky and then shortened back to a star! Like a shooting star but very slow, precise and controlled. Very hard to explain - it was like a line being drawn in light in the sky. A white lightsabre.
A couple of us saw it and gawped at each other. Never seen anything like it since.
This was well before drone technology.
merryman1@reddit
Not to dispute anything you've said but "drone technology" goes back a long long way, the first radio-controlled planes were flown in 1917.

Healthy_Chipmunk_990@reddit
Some friend and I saw something like that in the early 2000s in rural Hungary. We were outside a clubhouse lying down just casually stargazing. There was some bright dot just floating in the sky - it did not look like planes, its movement was too slow - then it completely stopped moving and after some time suddenly flew off in a 45 degree angle into space. I was a kid and thought I went crazy. Asked my friend and he said he also saw that.
Also saw something like that once more over a lake in Hungary as a young adult. My cousin saw that too.
iloovehugecock@reddit
Some girl I used to be friends with has a really rich Grandma who owned a fancy penthouse flat along the South coast (being intentionally vague). It had a wrap around balcony and was about 20 stories tall.
One night we were out on the balcony drinking hot chocolate and talking late in to the night and we saw a light in the sky darting around erratically. It wasn’t following any noticeable pattern or route, just darting here there and everywhere really fast. At points it would go over the other side of the building and we’d lose sight of it, and then it would zip over again super fast and just zoom around in the sky.
Neither of us could explain it and never seen anything like it since.
TackyTinsel@reddit
I saw something like this about 12 years ago.
We were driving home from the supermarket and I, the passenger, was staring at a moonbow! I was pretty excited, I’d never seen one before (haven’t seen one since).
Either way, there was this really bright light, I assumed it was a star, sitting quite low down, to the underside of the moon.
It was perfectly still for a few minutes as I was watching the moon, when suddenly it shot up and to the right and then disappeared. It was so fast.
finders91@reddit
Similar experience. Structure of flashing lights stationary in the sky, arrangement of lights unlike typical layout for aircraft. Thing then moved across the sky impossibly quickly a few times and disappeared. As you say, difficult to explain with what we currently know about.

Have seen similar. Multiple lights that look like stars in the night sky suddenly changing direction and speed.

I had a few strange experiences in the house I grew up in—and so did my family, friends, and even neighbours. I'd lived there for about 32 years.
When my sister was young, she had an imaginary friend: a little blonde girl she would regularly talk to and play with. We all assumed it was just a phase.
One day while my parents were leaving for work, my mum noticed movement in an upstairs bedroom window—just a glimpse, but enough to make her go inside and check in case one of us had come home from school. The house was empty. Doors and windows were locked, and the school confirmed we were both in class.
This didn’t just happen once—it happened multiple times over the years.
What made it stranger was that neighbours also mentioned seeing what looked like a little girl in that same window, even when nobody was home. The description matched my sister’s “imaginary friend”—and no one outside our immediate family even knew about her.
As we got older, the sightings stopped, but other things started happening. Friends would hear unexplained noises, and our dogs would suddenly bolt out of rooms and refuse to go back in, even though nothing visible was there.
There were many incidents, but here's two of them for starters.
One night, my girlfriend tried to leave the bedroom to go to the bathroom, this was when I was in my late teens / early 20's. But the door wouldn’t open. She was convinced someone was holding the handle from the other side. She was using both hands and couldn’t move it at all. When I got up and tried, it opened like it normally would. She was shaking and in tears. The hallway outside was noticeably colder than the bedroom. After that, she refused to go to the bathroom alone at night and every time she did need the toilet, I had to wait outside the door.
Years later, in a different bedroom along the same corridor, something similar happened.
We had our dog upstairs with us that night. U said bed and off he ran, Suddenly, he panicked—ears down, tail between his legs—and ran out of the corridor (he didn't get in the bedroom as I'd forgotten I'd left the door closed), urinating as he went. I saw it happen, with my girlfriend right behind me.
We rushed downstairs, thinking someone might have broken in, though there was no obvious way anyone could have accessed the house. I tried to get the dog to come back upstairs with me, but he refused, so I carried him. He was shaking the entire time.
When we reached the corridor, it felt cold again—just like years before, though not as intense. I checked every room, cupboard, and window. Everything was locked. No one was there. He was OK when we got him in the bedroom.
There were other incidents in that house and I could go on all night, but these will do for now.

As a teen I stayed over at a GFs, we'd been out with her dad (single parent family) and his friend/neighbour for a few drinks, the dad's friend was overly aggressive with me and kept telling me he could beat the shit out of five people my size at the same time.
After midnight, I could hear shouting outside, "I'm gonna fucking kill him" being the main point, her dad was outside too, I wasn't sure what that was about, slept and woke up to an array of weapons scattered in the garden, this was concerning, and I felt unsafe there.
Years later we were still together and moved in together, and she told me the neighbour had been abusing her since she was about 12, and the dad obviously knew as it had happened to three of his daughters and he'd kept quiet to protect his mate, both were utter pieces of shit, she was glad to escape them by living with me, I cannot explain how any father could allow this to happen to their children.

Want to preface this by saying that I categorically do not believe in ghosts, and am generally dismissive of ghost sories.
But I work in a thousand year old castle, which remains (after many renovations) in occupation by the same family for the past 800 years or so.
In the summer the place is entirely unremarkable. In the winter it becomes a bit desolate - all the seasonal staff bugger off, and about 10 permanent staff remain to keep the place ticking over and prep for the next year. I've been through this routine for two decades, and rarely experienced anything creepy, except for 3 times.
1: I was in our long library; a beautiful room maybe 80' long with huge and a pair of heavy oak doors at either end. These doors have sheet steel sandwiched between outer facades of oak, as a fire-protection measure. They weigh probabky several tons each, and take enormous effort to open and close; they simply stay where you put them and do not swing or move of their own accord. One dark January afternoon - about 4.30 pm - I was in the Library updating a catalogue, nobody around at all - I was the only person in the wing probably. Doors are open at either end of the Library, I am in the middle - 40 feet or more from either set - when suddenly all 4 doors slam shut at the exact same moment with an almighty crash. I dropped what I was doing and went home. Ask aroun the next day if anybody had been there and closed the doors, but nobody had, and it would have taken several people to close all the doors at the same moment.
2: Opposite side of the building. There is a long stone passage with a lovely vaulted ceiling, at the end of which is another set of lovely gothic oak doors leading to a set of stairs down to two rooms - one a store room, and next to it the family burial vault. it's a very odd layout and the storeroom is actually a seperate part of the vault which simply hasn't been needed yet, so it's a dumping round for old furniture, lumps of old stonework, and general knick-knacks. Very few people have a key to this area, and in practice it is probably opened not more than 2 or 3 times a year. This was the dead of winter also, so hardly anybody was in the building.
As you approach the door to go down, there is a strange little cut-out below the door handle, with a 3 x 3 inch piece of plastic inserted as a kind of window. It's too low to easily look through from outside - I think it's there so that anybody inside - coming up the stairs to leave the crypt - can see if there is somebody about to open the door into their face from above, as the stairs begin *immediately* inside the door.
I was coming from the other side to go down to the store room, had switched the lights on (the switch is outside the door) when I saw a shadow pass that little window and momentarily block the light from the other side of the door. This was very odd as I had only just retrieved the key from the office (which has to be signed for) and wasn't expecting anybody to already be in the crypt - I waited for a few seconds before opening the door, as I assumed somebody was coming up the stairs on the other side. But after 5 or 10 seconds there was no more movement, and there had not been any sound at all. I opened the door and there was just nothing there - nobody in the crypt (well it has another iron barred gate over the entrance and that was locked) nobody in the storeroom. There was nowhere else to go, so I'm at a loss as to who cast that shadow and where they went.
3: Another winter evening, I'm at the top of one of the round towers, maybe the 5th or 6th floor - we have lots of store rooms up in these towers and had just used a little kitchenette we have next to an office when I (all alone - nobody else in the entire tower which is locked at ground level) start hearing a repetitive tap-tap-tap .... tap-tap-tap.... tap-tap-tap.... Unable to tell exactly where it was coming from, until I went up one more floor, where there is a dark and narrow little corridor with a door leading to an external walkway which itself leads to an abandoned and ruined part of the castle - tap-tap-tap .... tap-tap-tap ... tap-tap-tap.... my heart started pounding but for some reaso I couldn't help walk towards the door where the noise seemed to be coming from. As I get there the noise stopped for a moment and then, louder than ever TAP TAP TAP - I nearly jumpedout of my skin, turned to my right, and there, on the other side of a narrow lancet window overlooking a 100' drop into the courtyard was..... a fucking pigeon, nesting on the windowsill, and for some reason deciding to fucking amuse itself by tapping on the window with its beak so as to give me a heart attack?
Anyway I don't believe in ghosts.

About 9 years ago, driving down a steep street with my bf and his mum. On the left were a row of tall houses, three floors, and one in the middle had bars on the top window. As we passed, an extremely pale, hairless, thin man clasped the bars with his hands from inside the window, and slowly turned his head. His proportions were off, his limbs were too long, and he didn’t seem to have a nose.
It was only about 4 seconds I saw him for, and if it wasn’t for the bars I would have just thought he was suffering with a debilitating condition, but the bars, the long hands, the slow turn - man it was so scary. Went past the house a few weeks later and saw nothing, then a few months later it was sold and it’s now just empty.

Not quite the same but one night I was having horrible sleep paralysis and trying to force my body to move, I managed to wiggle my fingers then my hands and arms etc until I finally could get the strength to sit upright in bed. I felt kind of weird still and like I hadn’t properly woken up, I turned my head around and saw my sleeping body, my eyes on my body were still shut and I remember feeling so scared to see myself asleep like that. All of this happened in the space of of 30 seconds and as soon as I’d gotten a good look at myself I was back in my body and had to get out of the sleep paralysis lock all over again, as if I’d never done it the first time.

I was in an abusive relationship. What helped me move on was learning the subtle red flags of abusers and toxic people so I could feel confident about avoiding them in future.
Don't let bad people win by limiting your life.
mannyrerobate@reddit
Would you mind sharing what the flags were?
D-1-S-C-0@reddit
They'll sound obvious but that's actually the beauty of it because they're fundamental traits of toxic people. The most important thing is being highly intolerant of them because they can seem unremarkable or excusable at first.
What sucks people like me into bad situations is the traits usually appear infrequently at the start, so you disregard them as a bad day or whatever. But then it gradually escalates. That's why intolerance matters.
Selfish. Any instance of them only thinking about what they want or showing no regard for you, your preferences or your feelings.
Controlling. Either directly by telling you what to do or indirectly with their mood to make you feel uncomfortable about doing something.
Unaccountable. They're only sorry if they think they might lose you but it's superficial and lacks specific accountability for their actions.
Reactive. They react hastily or excessively, especially if it's over something relatively minor or illogical.
You won't have a healthy relationship with anyone showing any of those traits. It'll only get worse.

Did she have a personality disorder or something undiagnosed to warrant such behaviour?
LushCinco@reddit
Who cares! Absolutely nothing could warrant that frankly criminal behaviour. If anything, attributing it to a personality disorder or undiagnosed neurodivergence does a disservice to every single other neurodivergent person (apart from my ex boyfriend who did something very similar), who would never ever do something like that.
Kickkickkarl@reddit
When you've been in a relationship with these sort of people and reflex later on down the line when you gain more knowledge you soon discover their poor behaviour is usually result of something which has possibly been undiagnosed.
A friend of mine was cheating on his partners for years with prostitutes and generally being an idiot. It's recently turned out he's got an ADHD diagnosis. I dated a girl who had BPD and kept it hidden from me. It was only because I worked out she wasn't all there in the head from her behaviour that she must have some form of personality disorder. As much as people don't wanna be tarnished with shit behaviour and their diagnosis unfortunately these things are linked.
This guy's ex must definitely have something wrong with her if she's that unhinged to put a knife up again him.

RoohsMama@reddit
I think they’re just curious and want to have an explanation for every sort of behaviour. I’m like this (which might be part of my neurodivergence) - it’s not to excuse someone’s ill behaviour but to learn from what would characterise someone who would act so criminally. My ex used to say “never mind, just accept this is how people are”

You’re probably one relationship away from realising that most people are in fact not manipulative, abusive and awful people! Good luck!

I saw something peek around the corner of my door while I was gaming it was tall and had stringy hair, was all I was able to catch. I full on believed someone had gotten into my house. There was nothing.
I also heard a quiet “hello” behind me one night I’d have thought that was just a sleep related hallucination but my cat reacted to it. Nothing there and yes I looked I’m not a chicken 😂
I’ve heard my cat toys being played with in the night and then looked and my cat is asleep on the end of my bed. (I don’t have mice or anything not even spiders survive my cat for literal seconds😭)
(I don’t have schizophrenia or anything like that and I’m certainly not in the demographic for it and yes my carbon monoxide alarm is working)

Man this gave me chills. This is the kind of mental imagery that I need to block out at night. Nothing scarier to me than knowing all the doors and windows are locked at night but looking down a corridor and expecting to see something looking around the corner at me
Bennjoon@reddit
I live alone and I’m disabled so when I tell you my heart dropped into my ass.
Pentax25@reddit
What you said about your cat reminded me of a thing similar with my cat once.
I didn’t live alone but with my family but they were all away for the night, staying in Portsmouth as my sister had a swimming gala. I usually sit upstairs in my room playing video games and had been with my cat on the bed sleeping next to me. At a couple of points, he just sits up and looks at something through the open door fixated. I was online with friends so took my headphones off to listen but couldn’t hear anything, told them I was gonna look and then went and checked the house. Doors all locked, windows shut. Nothing there.
A bit later I’d gone and made dinner. My cat is social and tends to follow me if I’m in the house alone so I’d gone to the living room to eat and he had come to sit with me there and settle down on the sofa.
After eating, I stayed there to finish watching whatever I had on telly before going back upstairs but then my cat does it again, wakes up, looking directly through the slightly open door. This time since I didn’t have headphones on, I could hear that there was no sound but he looked really startled. I paused the tv to listen but still nothing. I called out and there was no reply. But then my cat got up and went almost to the door, back low and tail fully fluffed up with fear and then hissed! Now you don’t know my cat but he rarely EVER hissed at anything. I was terrified but managed to get up and look out the door. I still couldn’t see anything there so then went room to room leaving all the lights on as I went and he followed me.
Literally couldn’t find anything out of the ordinary in the entire house but it was like he could see or sense something there that I couldn’t.
idris_elbows@reddit
Cats have better hearing at higher frequency than humans. They also react to silhouettes of cats (or the apparent silhouette - I've had cats react to pictures of a cat before). Possible explanations
Pentax25@reddit
Yeah I tell myself he probably heard something that I couldn’t within the house, potentially electrical switching on or off or even something elsewhere that sounded interior to him.
CarpeCyprinidae@reddit
yeah, living in a haunted house will mess with your mind. Whenever mine tried to talk to me, I'd look at where the voice came from and calmly ask him to go away and let me rest. Was surprisingly effective - usually got several months before it happened again once i started doing that.
LibraryOfFoxes@reddit
My microwave used to set itself on to random settings, it'd beep when nobody was anywhere near it and the icon for the fish, popcorn or baked potato setting would come up. I started happening quite often. One day it did it twice in a row and I said out loud 'can you stop that? It's a bit creepy'.
It's not happened since. I know it's probably is just coincidence, but it's a bit of a weird one. Then I wonder if I should feel guilty if I stopped a ghost having a bit of harmless fun.
imalwayshungr@reddit
If you work out of the house, tell them they can play when you're at work! You can have a little chuckle when you see a little fish when you get home, but you can't hear it! 😃🤣

That’s such a specific thing I wonder if the ghost was obsessed with cooking or something. 😂

The stairs in my house has 2 solid walls either side, and the 'landing' is literally the width of the stairs, squared. The door immediately to the right is my bedroom, and I sleep with the door wide open.
A few months ago, when in bed, I heard footsteps coming up the stairs, and I said "no, you can fuck right off. I've told you if you want to talk, you have to be nice. Don't be scary, I can't cope." 😭🤣

I (41F) worked in my sisters bar in a town in Scotland when I was in my early 20's. The bar itself was really old, and quite a lot of the staff and regulars had experienced "things" happening on the premises, but, at the time of this incident, I had worked there for around 6 months without anything remotely interesting happening. The bar was a horse-shoe shape, with one door in and out, and a cellar to the back of the building.
This one night the bar had closed at midnight but my sister wanted us to have a lock-in, so we locked the place and I continued serving folks. I wasn't drinking so I was happy enough to continue serving. At one point, the lager pump died, so I said I'd be back in 2 mins - the cellar was about a minutes walk away through 2 locked security doors.
I unlocked the 2 locked doors, setting off the motion sensor lights as I went, and entered the cellar. The cellar itself had one of those MASSIVELY heavy oak doors which needed two hands to open it. I walked into the corner of the room and while changing the keg, found that the pump had stuck. So I'm trying to release the pump, and behind me, I hear the oak door opening and I heard a man's voice say "what are you doing in here?". I was angry that someone was clearly being sarcastic, and couldn't wait two fucking minutes on me changing the keg, so I shouted "what does it look like I'm doing? I'm changing the keg! Give me two minutes for fucks sake". I heard a noise which I took to be the door closing, and I finished changing the keg, and left the cellar, closing the locked doors behind me and making sure it was all locked up.
"Right, who was the impatient prick who couldn't wait 2 minutes on me changing the keg??" I asked the bar when I walked back into it. Everyone looked at me, and my sister, who was at the other side of the bar (opposite the door) said "no-one's left the bar area?"
I was like, nah, someone must have, you've just not seen them. Someone came into the cellar shouting at me for taking so long to change the keg. She then put her drink down on the bar and asked me to follow her to her office, which was located up the stairs from the bar (it used to be an old lodging house which she had made into offices). She then took me up, showed me her CCTV of everywhere (including in the cellar, which was pointed toward the corner of the cellar where I was changing the keg, but annoyingly missed the door) and you saw me enter the cellar, you saw me react to the voice shouting, and you then saw me leave the cellar and the look on my face was annoyance. I then triggered the motion sensor lights back on once I walked back down to the bar.
She calmly asked me to remember exactly what was said. It was then I remembered, the voice didn't say hurry up, or come on, or anything like that. It was more someone "angry that I was there" sort of tone. It was then she told me that she (and numerous other female members of staff) had experienced a male presence/voice when working in the bar. She told me she had found herself speaking out loud when she was alone in the building, telling the voice that it was HER bar, she had worked hard for her success and she didn't care who he was or how much he clearly didn't like it, she was there to stay.
To this day, 18 years later, I have no logical explanation for what happened that night. No-one followed me, I was alone in the cellar as was confirmed on the CCTV. But I KNOW what I heard. I can still hear the voice when I remember the incident.
Christian-Metal@reddit (OP)
Wow. Great story, thanks. You seemed to have taken it in your stride - did it frighten you? Did you ever return back to working there?
BlueHornedUnicorn@reddit
I was so spooked, I didn't even want to return to the busy bar that night once my sister showed me the CCTV footage. I could see myself reacting, it was like an out of body experience because I knew when I was reacting to the voice, I could see my shoulders hunched in anger, but yet there was no-one there.
From that point onwards, I asked my brother to come and help me lock up when I was on by myself. My sister would let us offer our regulars free pints if they would wait with us while we cashed up so we weren't on our own. It really was the creepiest place after that incident! I lasted another year-ish.
In a way, I wish I had been drinking. It would give me an excuse to myself that I misheard the voice or I was imagining it or exaggerating. But I know I wasn't. Will never forget it 🥲
Christian-Metal@reddit (OP)
See, what you should have said to the voice is, "Sorry Sir, we don't serve spirits." 😁😉

Not exactly the same, but it reminded me of my height. When I started high school, I was one of the taller guys in my class. I even remember getting comments on being tall, However, by the end of high school, I was one of the shortest people in my year. I obviously hadn’t grown shorter but it felt like I had. Though I still hadn’t internalised it as I was always the taller kid growing up, it wasn’t until one day when I was called short and people laughed, then it finally dawned on me that I could no longer keep pretending that I was still tall.

When I was around six or seven, every night (and I mean every night) after around 15 minutes of being in my room alone I’d hear my name whispered right next to me.
Now I know people will read this and think it was my imagination but I know what I heard and it terrified me. I remember this so vividly I can assure you this was not imaginary.
“Gareth” it would call. I’d squeeze my eyes closed tight, put my head under the pillow, my fingers in my ears and try to block it out. The hairs on my body would stand on edge, I’d have goosebumps and this happened continually over a long period of time.
One night, I don’t know what was different about this night, but I heard my name whispered and I instantly snapped with rage. I bolted into an upright position and addressed whatever this was. I uttered something along the lines of “I don’t know who you are or what you are, but just please leave me alone”.
The atmosphere of my room felt like it changed and I never heard my name called in that way again. To this day I can’t explain what it was or why it stopped once I’d spoken - makes me wish I’d been braver and spoke sooner!
It’s funny the things you put to the back of your mind. I hadn’t thought about this for years until today and it’s given me the chills again as I type this!!

2 ghost type accounts.
1.Stayed at a B&B in Cardiff, proper old terraced type of place.
Im an incredibly light sleeper, always in a cat like state of readiness. Middle of night 1, light in the ensuite goes off and on randomly. No other electronic issues. In the morning had a good rattle about and jumping seeing if its a faulty wire trying to recreate. Looked at the roads near it, quiet street so no big lorry's or anything.
Night 2, more of the same with added opening and closing, slowly of the en suite door. Got up turned light off closed door. 30mins later, light goes on door slowly opens. Repeat several times in the night.
Night 3, same crack but with an added moving of a bed blanket, comforter type furry blanket, slowly off the bed. 100% haunted place.
Laughed it off. One night got up for a piss at like 3am, toilet door opens on its own. Light flickers. Thought nothing of it.
Happens a few times every now and again when staying there. One time happens again, left the room and in the shadows of the stairwell seen an old miners lamp flicker and disappear.
Was never scared in both encounters more curious and tried to figure out if I was goinf mental. But nope couldn't explain it. Not a massive believer in supernatural malarkey but defo more aware now.

My Nana’s house was haunted. It just was, everytime my Mam took me I’d make sure I went to the toilet in my own house because I would rather piss myself than use her toilet upstairs. The house felt alive like static I can’t explain. My Dad used to wake up to people sitting on the end of his bed. He said something spat at him when he was walking down the stairs. My cousin who would have been around 19 at the time looked out of his bedroom window at night and saw something scuttle underneath the shed. He said it looked like an imp. Anyway the old tenants turned up to pick apples from the apple tree as ya do. They refused to enter the house, said they’d just use the side gate as they used to live there and know what kinds things happened. Not answered your question but I do like chiming in with that story!

I did park up outside a prison in the UK. Not high, not drunk. Promise. Well, maybe a jpint or two
Proceeded to see, with my friend, two huge oblong shaped "things" in the sky changing colours and shapes for about 20 minutes before they zoomed off at high speed.
Like I say, I was not high or drunk. My friend had had two Carlsbergs. Which is lager, but weak as piss.
We both witnessed it. It was in the UK, Featherstone to be precise. We watched for about 20 minutes. I have no idea what they were but it will stay with me for life.

I’ve posted this before a couple of times on my old account and got called a liar etc but I’ll retell it now.
I used to jog in the same bit of woods every day. You run down a slight hill and then at the bottom there’s a t junction and I always went left. There’s a main road running parallel about 100 metres but the vegetation is so thick you can’t see the cars but you can hear them.
I was running one summers morning about 5:30am and it was bright sunshine beating through the thick trees as I ran down the hill. I got to the bottom and turned left and looked down at my watch for a brief second. Looked up an I didn’t know where I was. The lush green trees had been replaced with thick dead trees and shrubs and brambles everywhere. The sun had gone and the sky was grey. I turned around and the t junction wasn’t there. Just a path with the same looking thick dead forest around it.
I was panicking like fuck and got my phone out to check my Apple Maps and it told me I was right where I thought I was but I wasn’t. I ran for a minute or two in either direction but nothing or no one. I couldn’t hear the cars either. In a panic I just ran full pelt through all the trees and brambles towards where I knew the road was.
In about a minute or so I suddenly burst through something I don’t know what but all I could see was dead vegetation and then bang I was on a pavement and ran straight in to the road I was running that hard. A car slammed its brakes on and managed to avoid me as there was nothing coming the other way. He shouted “Where the fuck did you come from?” And then saw me and asked if I was ok.
I said yes and apologised and looked behind me and then trees and bushes were all thick and green and alive. The sun was beating down. Everything was normal. I looked down at myself and my arms and legs were cut to ribbons and my vest was torn to pieces. My nose and lip were bleeding and my head hurt where my hair had snagged on things.
I took a slow walk home and my husband looked horrified when I walked in. I told him I went a different route and got lost and fell in some thick brambles. He didn’t believe me and I broke down and told him what happened.
Later that day I asked if he’d walk the route with me. I was terrified going down the hill and could sense something weird but we turned the corner and everything was as it should be.
I can’t explain it and no one but my husband ever believes me.
Zenmont@reddit
Sounds supernatural af, like you dipped into a different plane of existence or something.
Out of curiosity, if you had to come up with the most rational explanation possible, do you have any ideas? At the beginning, I wondered if this was going to be a case of 'running trance', but by the end, I'm not convinced.
WordsMort47@reddit
One very unlikely but possible rational explanation: they were assaulted on their run and their mind created some other version of events to shield her from the trauma of the incident.
Altruistic_Dare6085@reddit
It doesn't even have to be something as dramatic as a repressed traumatic event. One time I inexplicably got the worst fever hallucinations of my life from a common cold. The brain just does weird things sometimes.
Not being able to recognise where you are like that could possibly be a dissociative episode, but those aren't always triggered by capital-T trauma (though they can be). It could have been something as straightforward as getting up early for a run after a bad night's sleep during a couple unusually stressful weeks at work.
BaldPleaser@reddit
I believe you. I’m not going to mention but I’ve experienced something similar a few years back. This is the first time I’ve actually said something about it but yeah, it’s going to the grave with me. Not said anything about it because I know people will not believe me or think I’m lying/mental. I used to have nightmares about it but they’ve now just sorted of fizzled away.
Bennjoon@reddit

RoohsMama@reddit
If you continued on the path, the left path on the T junction, how long is it before you get to the road? Where does it end up? Did you try running that path when everything turned grey?
franki-pinks@reddit
The park is pretty circle shaped with a path all the way around and then a load of oaths inside the circle. I made a route that was a perfect 5km. I run down the hill and get to the T junction and then that’s the final 2k going around about a third of the outside path and back to the car park. I know that path has plenty of paths leading off it to my left (with the trees and road to my right) but I didn’t see any of them. That’s why I decided to just run through the trees towards where I thought the road was.
RoohsMama@reddit
That’s interesting. Do you think you had a momentary hallucination? Just trying to find a good explanation.
OkFlow1178@reddit
Just to jump in and say that’s not how hallucinations work, not for the extent this went on for (a few minutes). Shadows in the corners of your vision, seeing faces/hands where there isn’t any etc for sure could be temp hallucinations, but not something to this degree without being on drugs or deep in psychosis
RoohsMama@reddit
Yup. Someone suggested they may have had a traumatic experience (such as assault) and this was a way to erase the memory
Chevalitron@reddit
Have you ever tried looking up the ordnance survey maps of the area to see if it looked that way in the past?
WordsMort47@reddit

I'm assuming it wasn't actually dead and was just winter. But they can be quite detailed, and would show the historic layout of forest, paths and roads.

I rarely tell anyone about this because it sounds like I'm making stuff up - but my childhood home was weird as fuck. I hated being at home alone because there was always a presence. Weird things include:
If I put anything on a table or a flat surface (in the dead middle) I'd turn around and it would be rolling or thrown off - like someone just swinging out their arm and swiping it off.
I'd hear footsteps in the corridor pacing when everyone else was in bed. Sometimes I'd feel a cold hand on my shoulder.
The worst was sometimes having something hit my pillow next to my head, I'd feel the wind rush past my face like someone had slapped it really hard.
Sometimes I'd feel something sitting on my legs and I'd see the indent in the duvet.
The scariest by far was seeing a full on shadow person in the mirror reflection in the bathroom, not just a shadow, a full completely black, almost solid, taller than me outline of a person directly behind me.
I think there were probably more that I can't remember! I wondered if some were symptoms of sleep paralysis but I never experienced these things sleeping at anyone else's house, and never since moving out ...

My dad used to go jogging in the Lake District at night he’d run all the way to Caldbeck and back and sometimes slept in a bus shelter and my mum would pick him up He didn’t take any lights with him. Or a torch. Nothing. Mum has no idea how he could see in what would be utter darkness. One time he got hit by a truck and RAN BACK HOME looking like zombie. His shirt had been pushed inside his chest and he had a massive scar from then on.
One time he ran off into the forest while camping my mum said they found him at the bottom of the mountain sleeping on a bench. Still no explanation of how he could see in pitch black darkness or wtf he was doing. He also ran home from a New Year’s Eve party “to scare my fiancé” because we were staying at my house. It was 13 miles through pitch black countryside. A policeman stopped him mid woodlands. “Oh it’s just you Dadsname” 😭
He was extremely colourblind (achromtopsia) so I can only think that gave him some sort of weird night vision.
TLDR: I think my dad might have been some sort of cryptid yall.

When I was a student I got a job in the summer in one of the halls of residence that the university let out to the public like a hotel.
A few strange things happened but on one occasion I was in a four bedroom flat changing the bedding and I was in the hallway and the toilet flushed - I was just the other side of the door and there was no one in there. It was a flat where strange things were said to have happened.

The loo kept flushing and the telly kept turning itself on and off in a hotel room I was in with my partner once some years ago. We decided not to stay a second night. I had a white amaryllis bulb that seemed to foretell a death. My partner got it for his Dad when his Mum died, then brought it home to ours when his Dad died. Every time this bloody thing flowered there was a death of a loved one. The first once or twice I put it down to weird coincidence, after the fifth I was like, this thing has to go. The last time it started throwing up a flower spike I put it outside on the drive. Someone took it, and I sometimes wonder if they've found the same thing.

The consultant finally said "not for icu, but keep them.on fluids and antibiotics and up to the ward".
I came round 8 days later, the consultant came in and I told him I remembered everything, including his instructions about not for ICU, and me "telling them.i had to lay down before the moved the bed" he explained at that point I'd just had a seizure.
Still can't explain it, neither can the doctors, they have no idea how I survived or how I knew everything. It's so odd thinking of it now. It was definitely real to me.

I’m more amazed by you surviving this. That consultant line (“not for us, keep them on the wards”) usually presages a bad outcome. Well done! You’ve got a second lease on life mate

Worked a pub in a rural coastal village. Very busy in summer, dead in winter. Only lived a mile away so often walked home along the country lanes at night after locking up. One night in winter after kicking the usuals out and locking up, walked through the village on my way home. One of the last buildings on the outskirts was the church. Noticed light on the stain glass windows which was odd as this was around 1:00am. Fuck knows why but I thought I should go in and have a look - I wasn't gettinn any scary vibes at all. Opened the door and went in, dead quiet. Walked further in and down the aisle and saw where the light was coming from. On each window sill and around the pulpit were lit candles. Walked further down to get a better look and noticed all the candles, all of them were 'full' - barely any wax had melted away. I don't know why but when my brain registered that the vibe changed straight away. Felt like people were watching me, even though it was dead quiet. For my own sanity I walked out rather than bolting for the door, but fuck me the chills I had on my neck were insane. Asked around the village the next day to find out if there was something on in the church, nope. No service had been conducted there for some time.

Not exactly scary af but more of "wtf was that??"
When I was a wee kid I was on a coach coming back from something on a trip. It was dark out and street lamps were on. I was sat next to the window and looking out. On the path, I can see the shadow of a person standing under the street lamp, but no actual person. I'm keeping my eyes glued on this thing as we drive past but eventually lose it. There was no one on that street that could've been the cause of it. I've always wondered what it was.

I was on the train at about 11pm. I was sitting by the door between carriages when a guy came through the doors, walked the full length of the carriage and left out the door on the other end. Around two to three minutes later the doors next to me opened again and the exact same guy walked through the door and through the carriage again. There was no way he had got past me in the other direction before doing that so I have no idea what happened.

So 3 weeks ago I had a face to face 1 hour chat with Virginia McCullough. Not going to lie was pretty terrified even as a 37 year old man who has been to prison, had 6 surgeries in 4 weeks last year due to complications, shared a cell with a serial killer for 6 months, was living 2 weeks at the height of gang violence in Karachi Pakistan and once found my type one diabetic brother passed out on the pavement near our house in the middle of the day for over 30 minutes and no one had come to help him.
However this lady genuinely scared me with her calm demeanour.
WordsMort47@reddit
Why does a calm demeanour frighten you so?
Tall_Stick5608@reddit
Generally it doesn’t - it’s more in the context if I have done something bad I feel guilty, remorseful. With this individual they are so casual about killing and living with and hiding the bodies for 4 years and that scared me.
WordsMort47@reddit
Shit I never heard about her before. Will have a Google
Downtown_Medicine408@reddit
what did you talk about? who is she and what did she do? also what were yoru surgeries for, why were you in prison and what was life like in pakistan? your life sounds so interesting. sorry for my nosiness im just so curious. you dont have to answer.
Tall_Stick5608@reddit
My mother’s family live in Lyari Pakistan where it was known for politically backed gang violence for many years and I was just visiting.
Surgeries were a failed stoma reversal that leaded to an leak in the joint (sorry I’m not very technical medically) but I had to keep going back into theatre to wash out the leaks and try to correct things. I’ve had chrohns disease since I was 15.
I was in prison for 2.5 years, because I had serious health issues as a teenager it lead me to a dark path of addiction leading me to do a financially motivated crime.
I chose the serial killer as my cellmate when I was convicted as previously on remand I had met him and despite his crimes I knew as an older prisoner he will keep himself to himself and not bring debt / trouble to the cell. I’m quite good at getting on with anyone because of the varied life I have had and we only had one argument / disagreement in 6 months. I would rather not name him and he’s not a known one.
Google her and why I was there I will reply in one of the other questions :)

You got to choose your own cellmate? WHAAAAT?!

I’m glad you’re now in a position to help society. It’s interesting that you’ve turned your path around. How many of those with criminal pasts are like you, do you think, and how many are like Virginia, in the sense they’re past the point of rehabilitation and reintegration into society?

So - I volunteer in prisons - usually men’s ones and do fellowship groups, sort of my way to give hope and encouragement to people turning their lives around like I have. However the person who normally visits the ladies prison asked me to cover and she was the only inmate in the session and what freaked me out is how calm and casual she was.
No_Step8958@reddit
Surely these sessions are confidential & not for public entertainment on social media?

I just read about the case. As a true crime fan I must say, female murderers are not as common as the guys, but their ruthlessness and cold-bloodedness can surpass their male counterparts.
We women don’t have the testosterone levels which would amplify the violent urges in a lot of the men who commit murders. (We do have hormonal rages but it’s largely due to a decrease in estradiol, not its increase.) So the women who planned to commit murders for any kind of gain, they’re so much scarier. Add to this the perception that women are the “softer” sex, meant to be nurturing or motherly. To see a cold blooded psychopathic woman is disconcerting.
Bossman_Mike@reddit
The bodyworn of her arrest is absolutely nuts. You could tell the arresting officers couldn't believe what they were hearing.
Tall_Stick5608@reddit
Yeah I felt the same - she was talking very casual with me. At one point she was complaining how some of the other inmates don’t keep their cells clean however I was thinking didn’t you keep 2 dead bodies in the house for 4 years. But yeah it was an experience

I'm sat next to an old chest of drawers most nights and what could maybe be explained away as settling wood by some, I don't think it is...there has been a single knock, sharp or fainter, either one, in the same corner, every so often. I can just about hear the wind resistance from a book or a hand before it hits. From that same area, I was once woken up by what sounded like my mum yelling my name in long form (so, Thomas instead of Tom for example) but short and angry, just once. Another time, I was woken up by this heavy prodding pain/sensation in my left ribs. I live alone and my mum is still alive.
I worked night security during COVID for a nearby University. Two of their buildings have known activity. I experienced both in the same night. Got in the first one, after a few minutes, there was opening and shutting of doors, several pairs of running feet, intensely prickly air while moving around. Next building, in a corridor checking lights, one light decided to work by itself with me ten feet away. Noped out. Didn't go back there that night. Other colleagues experienced things there. I still work security for other locations.
I was walking home one night and may have seen a shadow person through the window of a house across the street, clear as you like, the light was on, yellowish warm colour. But there was no angle for that shadow being made without being able to see somebody there. It moved left to right seemingly faster than how people might normally move. I looked up and across at the house a split second before it did so.

I got followed home when I was about 15 in my school uniform. He kept asking me where I lived and how old I was. I ended up ringing my friend who I had just split up with and asked her to turn around and come back because I had forgot my homework in her bag. Obviously a lie. She understood me thankfully and I turned and walked back towards the skatepark full of teenagers while I waited for her. When she came back I told her what was wrong and we sat on a bench and waited. He hovered around until eventually leaving. I have no idea what he wanted to this day but it was terrifying.
mycarefu@reddit
The domestic violence story and that haunted babysitting gig both hit on the same terrifying truth—sometimes the most unexplainable horror is how casually evil can exist right next to you, whether it's a person you trust or an empty room. It's the quiet, mundane setting that makes it so much worse.
UnlikelyHat5885@reddit
This is going to sound like a story but it is true.
Was sat downstairs with the dog with the TV on, it was November so it was dark outside. As I'm sat there I hear someone knock on the glass of the front door twice. Like someone tapping it twice with their knuckles. The dog got up and went to the door but didn't bark. I was just about to go up and open it when I realised the ring doorbell hadn't said there was motion at the door.
I opened the app, no one was there. Nothing recorded.
The door has a porch over it and there are no plants or branches or anything. There's a fully grown garden in front so there is no way that someone could get to the door without being detected.
I then realised that I was pretty sure the woman who had owned the house previously had died in November. I made the executive decision to not look this up while my husband was on nights and I was alone in the house.
A week later I remembered and the knock had happened literally the day she died.

I've seen a flying saucer, about 25 years ago. I wouldn't say it was scary but it is something bizarre and outlandish that I can't rationally explain. I don't mean an indistinct UFO that could have been anything, I mean exactly what you picture if I say classic, X-Files sci-fi flying saucer. I got a very good, clear look at it for somewhere between 2-3 minutes, there's no mistaking what it was. No visible means of lift or propulsion, completely silent, able to sit perfectly still in the sky at a low altitude and then suddenly shoot off across the sky and over the horizon at an astonishing speed, without any process of acceleration. Just zero to lord knows what in a fraction of a second.
LadyMirkwood@reddit
I saw something very similar in the 90s, I was on a coach full of other people who saw it too.
It was the middle of the day and this disc thing was spinning and gleaming in one spot. Then it would appear in a other instantaneously. Suddenly, there was this very odd streak of light, and then what looked like smoke, except instead of billowing out, it was going back in, like a video played backwards .
We all looked at each other, bewildered and quite unsettled. It was very strange
miIk-skin@reddit
I've seen one of those these too, but mine wasn't a saucer, it was the more commonly reported TR3B, or black triangle UFO.
The one I saw moved identically to how you report. No visible or audible means of propulsion, able to propel itself huge distances and come to a complete standstill, without seemingly any drag. It moved the way the a hoverfly or a hummingbird might.
KezzyKesKes@reddit
Sounds similar to what I saw around the same sort of time. Like you say it wasn’t scary, just very strange.
The one I saw was totally silent, spherical, made of highly polished chrome with an oval orange light in the middle of it. It was hovering over a patch of water and what was really weird was that the water was rippling but not in the normal way waves do. The water was sticking up in big pointy spikes.
We could see this UFO from a way off and initially thought it was a helicopter as it was hovering just above the power lines. We would regularly see national grid surveying so didn’t think anything of it.
We got within about 100 yards of it and it took off vertically with no sound, no sign it had been there and at a ridiculously fast speed.
This was also in broad daylight at about half three in the afternoon on a spring day as we were heading back to the depot to drop off our equipment.
themysterytapir@reddit
When and where did you see it? There are a few famous UFO sightings.
dave8271@reddit
I don't want to say exactly, but the location was entirely unremarkable, above some houses in a quiet suburb of a city in an England. Just sitting there doing nothing for about three minutes, save a single electric blue light on the underside that was steadily going round in a circle pattern.

Late to the party but want to share mine because it scared me half to death at the time, but now I think it’s just weird. Was driving back to my parents really late at night having left Ipswich. Was about 1am. Just me, 22f at the time, in my beat up 2005 Skoda. Bumbling along the back roads towards Hacheston. Out of a bush on the side of the road, guy leaps out, in jeans only, and starts pelting along the road in front of me. Barefoot too. And then just as suddenly as he came out of the bush, he dove back into them. I’m talking those spiky bushes with the pale green parsley shaped leaves. Not a bush you want to be in without protected skin. I hit the locks and coaxed my car to 60 with my heart hammering all the way home.
Worst part was, when I got back to my parents, they’d put the chain on the door and weren’t answering their phones, so I then chose to drive all the way to Needham to stay with my grandparents rather than sleep outside in the car all night after that 😅

To this day I’m convinced we went through some sort of wormhole or timeloop or something. Me and Mr Dull went on holiday to the Norfolk Broads in 2013, we’d never been before. We missed our turning and ended up at the coast. I phoned the cottage admin to say we missed the turning as I knew they shut at 4:30pm so we only had 5min to get there. To cut a long story short we made it in time but here’s the scary/unexplainable part. The coastal town we were at is 25min away from where we were staying. To this day we are bamboozled by it. We didn’t realise at the time how far away it was but when we wanted to visit the coastal town again we realised.

About 15 years ago driving late at night on A road between Farnham and Haslemere in Surrey. It cuts through dark woods/forest on either side of the road.
Up ahead I could see a figure standing in the middle of the road so had to brake very heavily to avoid hitting them, it had its back to me. It was tall but I realised it wasn't a man as it had fur and no clothes. It turned to the side, it was goat like with short antlers but upright and bipedal cloven, it looked straight at me ran before sprinting into the woods.

Walking through some woods down a track with long grass either side. Something ran from the right onto the track stood looked at me & ran to the left I could see the grass moving as it ran through. I once spent a weekend in a haunted house with a group of friends; as soon as we arrived, something just felt off in a way I couldn’t explain.
After a while we started to hear strange noises; phones pinging when there was no message, electrical sockets being switched on and off, furniture being moved around in an empty room. I heard someone speak to me, but when I turned round there was nobody there.
Several people had disturbing dreams about drowning, or being chased and not being able to run. A couple of people felt something brush past them.
After we left, the person who booked the house contacted the owners, who admitted that others had reported similar experiences. We’d got a cheap deal because everything in the house was very outdated, and not long afterwards it was completely refurbished - including the gas boiler, which I remember looked very old-fashioned.
I don’t have any proof of this, but I later saw a video of someone describing a similar experience, only she discovered what was actually haunting her house - and it was carbon monoxide.
The symptoms of mild carbon monoxide poisoning can include hallucinations, a general sense of unease (which can sometimes feel like a presence) and a feeling of being held down or choked - all caused by a lack of oxygen and the brain’s attempts to figure out what’s wrong. A hallucination doesn’t have to be something obviously unreal; it could be something that seems to fit in with your environment.
I’m still open-minded about the existence of ghosts - but if you ever think you have one, check for carbon monoxide regardless of what you believe.
MedicalHoneydew4534@reddit
That thread hits hard because the scariest stuff isn't ghosts or monsters—it's the quiet, real moments where your brain just cannot compute what your senses are telling you. The babysitting story is a perfect example of that primal panic, but honestly, the domestic violence comment is even more chilling because it's not paranormal, just pure human evil. It's wild how the threat of violence from someone who's supposed to love you can leave deeper scars than any haunted house ever could. Props to everyone brave enough to share these stories, because breaking that silence is the only way to stop the ridicule.
Dry-Policy-1269@reddit
IDK if this does not adhere to the spirit of the question but at the time I was unable to explain it.
I was sleeping and woke up but somehow was unable to move. Outside my closed bedroom door I hear loud banging which speeds up then suddenly stops. Then a deep voice from outside slowly counts down from 10. I manage to fully wake up when it reaches 3 and the voice stops.

Me and a few friends were camping in the local woods when we were 17. It was already getting dark when we were setting up so by the time we set up and settled down it was around 11pm. We were quite far into the woods and didn't notice anyone follow us so when we heard some loud rustling outside we got spooked. The 4 of us got out to see and it was a bright orb light just a few metres away from us. At first I thought it was someone with a phone torch but it didn't move like a human. It could of been a bug but it was making quite a noise. We watched in awe for about 5 minutes and followed it but then it just stopped and the light was gone. It was so strange and we decided to leave the woods that night. Found out that someone had committed suicide either that night or a few nights prior I cant quite remember since it was over 15 years ago.

He goes round the next blind corner, and two or three minutes later, so do I. He's nowhere to be seen. Half a mile of straight road before the next bend, high walls, no footpaths. Nowhere he could have gone, and yet...

Cycling to work early morning on the outskirts of York, this was about 25 years ago, nice summer day, clear blue sky. I turn a corner and notice a massive trail of smoke in the sky going straight up. Looked exactly like a rocket launch trail and it went so high as I looked up at it I had to lean my head back to see the whole trail, and even then it seemed to vanish through the blue in the sky.
My first thought was obviously some plane trail but the size of it and the angle just didn't match any plane trail I'd ever seen and there was no noise anywhere, no distance engine sound or anything, it was just sat there in the sky.
It was so early that there wasn't another person around so I'm guessing almost nobody else saw it. And from what I know there's nothing around York that would be somewhere a rocket would launch from.
Didn't scare me but was one of those wtf is that moments that's stuck with me.

Two friends and I were walking down a corridor at school; one side lined with classrooms and the other lined entirely with windows, with a couple of doors leading outside. As we entered this corridor, I saw what I can only describe as an orb float through one of the windows from outside, across our path and into a light switch on the wall on the opposite side. Just as I was about to ask my friends if they'd seen it, one of them beat me to it. All three of us saw the same thing and it really freaked us out, as we were very into ghosts at the time.
This happend about 18 years ago. I've since learned about ball lightning, but the descriptions and videos I've seen aren't entirely consistent with what we saw. It wasn't obviously electrical in nature, we weren't having a storm at the time and it moved very smoothly at a consistent pace. It was just a ball of light, probably about the size of a tennis ball, that passed through the window and disappeared into a light switch.

I've seen something similar but it came out of an electrical socket rather than floated into it. And it was unquestionably ball lightning, there was a raging storm overhead.

I was in the passenger seat of my car on our way home, as we went to see my friends and I decided to have a drink and we were driving past this creek, when I just saw a massive black hairy thing's backside (bigger than a badger, but maybe the size of a small bear).

Used to have a door to my eves in the room, the latch was broken and there was a draught so I duct taped it. Years went by, the tape had come off in parts so would make a noise. Woke up one morning to the peeling of tape which sounded like bones cracking and something long and slender at the end of my bed crouching then starting to stand up. Bolt up right, hand out and going “woah what the f**k” and it remained for a few seconds. The brain does odd things!

Repeated banging on the bedroom door late one night - it was the only room up a very creaky flight of stairs (so would have heard someone walk up or down) and when my boyfriend finally opened the door there was no one there.
A few weird things happened in that house - it wasn’t old and was built on what was previously woodland but I’ve always wondered if there was a murder on the land at some point. So many weird vibes there.

Electrical in the loft of my old house exploding out of nowhere, I was struggling to sleep and was just staring at the window and suddenly i see a giant orange flash and hear a big bang from above me
I still have no idea what caused it but I moved out right after. Landlord dealt with everything. I was fucking terrified for weeks after it, I didn't want to touch anything electrical not even my phone
