1989 Plymouth Voyager 3 Concept. Taking the kids? better hook up the backseat.

I've always loved this design, big and quirky with 6 wheels is my jam y'know?
But it's always had one shortcoming as a design. The add on caboose is as open and exposed as my front porch when detached.

The other thing that popped into my head was this van had a lot of moving parts and it was made by a company in the 80s and 90s who couldn't make a reliable window operator (thingy that moves windows in and out and up and down) for the Caravan during the same period of time.

why do the headlight remind me of the 2nd gen geo metro headlights?
truthfullyidgaf@reddit
You know why, we all know why.

It's because they touch themselves.

They very well could be a shared part

Reminds me of TNG.
Kichigai@reddit
I mean, this thing was presented the same year TNG premiered, and both were going for a futuristic look…
ailyara@reddit
Yeah but the whole saucer section decoupling from the engineering section thing.

This actually happened to me
SpaceXmars@reddit
Imagine that thing coming loose at 45mph

It seems like a cool idea that could actually be useful if done right. On the bigger side, I could see cities using this to scale up their bus sizes when congestion hits. For individuals, it would be cool to have an SUV that can convert itself to an RV by strapping on a caboose.
neophlegm@reddit
Seems hugely practical to me. Big car for big trips, small car for trip into the city or to a shop.
No-Definition1474@reddit
Can you imagine the NVH that comes through the joint? Like at some point it had to be just a rubber gasket or something so the two sections can move somewhat independently. So much wind noise too since the open ring around the smaller car would be facing forward. Would sound like a wind tunnel inside.
meuzobuga@reddit
Not necessarily. There could be some kind of notch at the rear of the car, where you would "plug" the rear section. And the rest of the rear of the car would be narrower than that. That would be kind of ugly where the 2 parts are not connected, but I think this is doable.
MattWolf96@reddit
Looks dangerous, imagine someone T-boning you right where it connects and the kids go rolling off somewhere. Maybe the rear wheels would automatically brake but still.
FalseEvidence8701@reddit
Nice design, but learning how to connect the two would be sketchy for most.
a22e@reddit
Where do the (formally) rear wheels go when connected?
Also this thing would burn through tires like crazy.
Drzhivago138@reddit
It looks like they raised up hydraulically. You can see a little bit of tire sticking down.
P1xelHunter78@reddit
0% chance a Chrysler product wouldn’t have that system suddenly collapse on the highway.
DocHooves94@reddit
I was thinking it would eventually just snap at the connector going over a pothole at 55mph+. It being a good ol’ Chrysler
