What was the best little computer game ever, and why was it Dope Wars?

Spent way too much time on this in my formative young adult years.

Chip's Challenge was pretty great for a free MS game.

Leisure Suit Larry.

If we're wandering into that genre, The Secret of Monkey Island was phenomenal.
Grog as a beverage and way to melt a lock.

Yes! Loved drug wars but this was my jam

Scorched Earth was banger.
Civ 1 was amazing in its day.
XCOM: UFO Defense might be the oldest video game that still holds up to modern standards, modulo only graphics.
But honestly, I think we all have to unite behind the GOAT: Oregon Trail.
Tremor_Sense@reddit
XCOM was mu firt PC game obsession. Way ahead of its time.

Good ol treadon dot us. Remember how cool it was forming cartels with your homies then plotting at school for the evenings round.
FiveCrappedPee@reddit
Grand Theft Auto. The original where it was just a screen of a city you drove cars around on and shit, like a SimCity look. And then prompts would pop up like "would you like to sell the heroin you stole for $7000" shit like that. It wasn't until years later the GTA we know today came to fruition. I still can't believe more people didn't play it. The blue car with the white racing stripes was the fastest.

Best way to learn Chicago's neighborhoods.

Holy shit I forgot about Dope Wars lol

Wasteland on C64.
Trade Wars on BBSs.
basahahn1@reddit
I made a comment about it a couple weeks ago in a “whets an old video game that’s not around anymore” post.
Not a single upvote. I think I incorrectly called it drug wars but…yeah I wasted a lot of time just clicking that game lol
herseyhawkins33@reddit
Played it on my handspring visor deluxe LOL
oskich@reddit
Same here, I really didn't have a proper need for that device but there were many cool games like dope wars on the Palm-platform. Checking your email on the school bus using your Nokia phone via the IR-link was some science fiction stuff though 😁

DUNE 2000!!!

Our school computers had Star Control II and Scorched Earth, and many a lunch period was spent playing both.

It made me really want to try qualudes even though I didn’t even find out what they were until Wolf of Wall Street came out
Buckeye_Randy@reddit
Trade wars on the BBS was pretty dope. I had to dial into the hosts PC and you played your turns but I could only seem to get in about once a week as the phone lines were always full. I think it was peak to own your own planet for me. But then it would inevitably take me up taken when I couldn't get back to playing for some time.

My earliest memories of computer games were a car design game that had a wind tunnel and the car was a spyder and looked like a cyber truck, and a simple golf game. I also vividly remember a game where there was a swan and a boot and different rooms. There was also the 'game' where you programmed a turtle to draw lines. My favorite memory was playing myst and monkey Island with friends during recess in our computer lab.

It was Drug Wars on my TI82, I think. Probably the reason I never learned calculus

I made a crummy little text RPG on my school-issued TI-81 in 8th grade.
I tried to port it to my personal TI-85, but I accidentally deleted it. Never re-made it.

Alpha Centauri was dope. Drug Wars was best by minimalist and portability criteria.
Notchersfireroad@reddit
Last time I played I made enough money to fund a whole country not just an army. Pure luck too. Figured I'd never top that and haven't played since.

Do you mean Drug Wars on TI-83?
