Should curry houses be regulated?

I'm a gambling man and love the spice of life (pun intended). BUT, is it acceptable that a jalfrezi can be a korma spice level in 1 joint versus a phal level in another... Same goes for madras. Holy jamooly.
Is it time to nationalise our curry houses with a regulatory body?

Nope. You pays your money, you takes your chances. Good luck.

I had garlic chicken recently and it was so good I want it again.

Have you not heard of "The 1994 Curry House Regulations" part 3 section is 'jalfrezis shall have a minimum of one, but no more than 3 chillies (as laid down in the 1989 Chilli act) and a pot of yoghurt no more than 6 inches from the plate therof'
VerbingNoun413@reddit
And 3 or fewer naans as 4 would be insane.

Or 3 chapatis!

I think the simple answer is yes.
Your suggestion should make the Prime Ministers desk by 12 noon tomorrow if you start the Change.org petition by 0700. The unwavering support that this will gain from the general public will overshadow any other global geopolitical event of the next 5 years (approximately)
The impact on unemployment across the UK will be resounding, as the nation's queues to become "Certified Curry Inspectors" to maintain a level of heat and flavour profile of the 10,000 curry houses in the uk through weekly curry testing.
The demand for weekly curry inspections will increase UK GDP, clean out the UK's sewage system and ensure that "Surprise Spicy" is a thing of the past on the island we call home.

Tbf, I know this is probably somewhat tongue in cheek but my daughter (7 year old) love a Korma and as of late weβve been caught out a few times with ridiculously spicy Kormas and not only is it a waste of money but also she gets a bollocking for not eating her food until we try and apologise profusely π
Mr-Incy@reddit
Every chef will have a variation of spice mix they use and will probably tailor how 'hot' a curry type is based on their customer feedback.

They're already all serving the exact same oily slop as it is. Go to a proper Indian restaurant.

Just start eating Mr Naga chilli pickle.

Also, phaal is the stupidest British curry ever (so far)

Jalfrezi can be as hot as you want it, depending on whether you eat all the green chillies or not.

It is all down to each individual chef. What would be point of restaurants if every meal in every restaurant tasted exactly the same.
eddilefty699@reddit
Hmm good point. But it's also similar to should bakeries be regulated, as some tasty treats will be sweeter than goods made by others.
I think there needs to be some overarching principles first, for a regulatory framework for this, that then can guide regulations. There needs to be impact and implications of certain spice levels too with some level of controls.
piratic_pickle@reddit
They should have spice testers. Basically, someone has a teaspoon of your curry and you judge by how red, sweaty or teary their face is whether itβs the spice level you expect π
