The last remaining fly worthy C-123. These photos were taking in 2023 at an airshow where it almost crashed on takeoff

Every time I’ve seen that thing fly it looks like it going to crash on take off. Granted not as serious as the one in that video. The thing just doesn’t seem to want to climb!

The USAF used to fly one of these into Lubumbashi in the Congo back in the late 60's. It wasn't camo - it's nickname was The Grey Ghost. They brought in stuff we'd bought from AAFES in Germany, meat from Belgium, and mail about once a week. We flew on that plane to Kolwezi once and spent a few days with some missionary families. We took the same plane back home a few days later. As a kid, I thought it was big fun, even if my dog Duke hated it.

Gene, you can’t sell the plane! It’s government property! The US government doesn’t exist in Laos and neither does this plane. Good point!
