Weird AL...

Was talking about" Eat it" with my 18 yr old last night, and as we went on our little road trip today, I decided for some nostagia, and listen to the first three if Weird Al's albums...I haven't heard these songs for over a decade, but still remembered them word for word. Give yourselves a smile and check out some Weird AL Yankovic.
More_Law6245@reddit
I blame Weird Al, I can't sing Michael Jackson's version of Beat It as I automatically default to Weird Al's parody version. I've even got a trivia question wrong one night because of it and just say I got some weird looks that night.
Username_888888@reddit
I do this with Lola and sing it as Yoda.
NearbyQuantity1847@reddit
I’m the same way with Bad/Fat. “Ham on, ham on whole wheat. Alright.”
BassGuy10@reddit
I have been playing Weird Al for my kids their whole lives, they like him! I need to get them to a show soon!
Username_888888@reddit
My son’s first concert was Weird Al. We are big fans!!
r22-d22@reddit
Do it! I took my kids (high school and college) to see his current show last year and it was incredible. He puts on a hell of a show. We all loved it.
BassGuy10@reddit
I saw him once, I know they’ll love it!
Bartlaus@reddit
I, too, have introduced my kids to Weird Al. It is my duty as a father to provide for them a quality education in the finer points of modern culture, after all.
TimelyExternal5769@reddit
I heard 'Dirty Deeds Done With Sheep' a few weeks ago, had not heard it for years.
I would have loved to see the members of AC/DC's reactions when first hearing it. Probably laughed their asses off.
Remmy555@reddit
I still think Amish Paradise is one of the funniest songs/music videos I've ever seen.
Odd_Policy_3009@reddit

Would be perfect on slow mo 😆
nvr2manydogs@reddit
I look at my wife and see she is very plain.
DatGuyatLarge@reddit
But that’s just perfect for an Amish like me, see we shun fancy things like electricity…
in-a-microbus@reddit
His early albums featured a lot of non-parody songs that deserve more attention.
chrisj2103@reddit (OP)
Definately! Nature trail to hell, and midnight star are my favorites
Smittles@reddit
I used to love “Those Were The Good Old Days” off Even Worse, and when it does get stuck in my head every so often, I think about how psychotic and horrifying it really is, and that what played well in ‘88 doesn’t play so well in ‘26.
Snortyclaus@reddit
Do you remember sweet Michele?
Smittles@reddit
She was my high school romance
Snortyclaus@reddit
I wonder if she ever made it home?
Erok2112@reddit
His original songs are honestly very good. My favorite Weird Al song is Skipper Dan - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a0cCRRFi1aA
HarryHaywire@reddit
Weird Al was my first concert in 1985. I always like his originals better than the parodies. One More Minute. Good Enough For Now.

Mimble75@reddit
I saw him in concert several years ago and it was one of the best shows I’ve ever been to. So. Much. Fun.
Informal-Gene-8777@reddit
Saw him in concert last summer and he is an amazing musician and performer
Igpajo49@reddit
If you every get the chance to see him live, don't pass on the opportunity. He's freaking amazing. His band is so tight and he sounds great! So many costumes and the last encore was all his Star Wars parodies with a couple dozen stormtroopers. One of the funnest concerts my family has ever been to.
oddball_ocelot@reddit
We're going this summer. I'm stoked, I've never seen him before despite being a fan since the very early 90s.
LilacSlumber@reddit
I joke that he has more costume changes than Cher.
I've never seen Cher live, but I've seen Al at least three times.
jk_pens@reddit
Seeing him in September and paid $$$ for the VIP meet n greet… sometimes I… Dare to be Stupid
IllAbbreviations4097@reddit
He is funny and prolific.
mom2artists@reddit
My son is 19 and has been listening to weird Al for over a decade. So much that sometimes I have to ask him to cool it. 🤣 Word Crimes is my favorite more recent one.
atypical_lemur@reddit
I hate to be that guy but that song is 12 years old.
mom2artists@reddit
Weren’t we just talking about Weird Al Songs from like the 80s? In that context it is one of the newer songs but ok. I didn’t say he just released it lol
zoziw@reddit
"Nature Trail to Hell" for the win!
davekva@reddit
"In 3-D" is my favorite Weird Al album. I listened to that entire album like 200 times during the summer of '84.
CraftLass@reddit
I went through so many copies of that album from wearing it right out and a couple weeks ago it came up in conversation with my partner (we're both GenX but towards opposite ends) who only knew the major hits, so I put it on. It was amazing to hear for the first time in years!
And he tried but he visibly hated it. I'm so bummed. But I guess I know why he didn't get my reference to Polkas on 45 that sent me to pull it up. Lol
zombie_overlord@reddit
Yes! That one and Midnight Star might be my 2 favorite ones of his

Back in '89 to 91 I worked at the local space theater / planetarium. Every night during the week there was a Led Zeppelin laser show. The conop that worked Tuesdays through Fridays always played weird Al before the show was people rendering and at the shows people are exiting it was great.
SnooCamera@reddit
I have tickets for October. I figured we both are not getting any younger.
Kjb72@reddit
I'm seeing him for the third time in July! I took my son to his first concert last year and it was Weird Al! Such fun shows!
dewihafta@reddit
We’re seeing him in Sept!
jeffster1970@reddit
Nature Trail to Hell was so clever. He managed to get about 300 cuss words on the radio without issue due to the context of the song.
meatwads_sweetie@reddit
I love Weird AL. I once tried to do karaoke to The Saga Begins but they didn’t have it so I just told them to play American Pie. Big mistake. There are a ton more verses in American Pie. It was a valiant effort anyway. I actually heard the song Yoda before I heard Lola. Lola just always seemed like it should have been Yoda after that.
grahamasterflas@reddit
I wrecked on my bike on a rainy afternoon in Westwood,1989. I looked up, dazed, and Weird Al had run over to help me. Truly kind concern on his face. I was already a fan and thought I must have hit my head. Weird feeling.
freerangeXkid@reddit
I heard Greg Kihn this morning and thought "how cool was he that he made a cameo appearance in Weird Al's I Lost On Jeopardy?"
HeavyNeedleworker707@reddit
Another One Rides the Bus is so much fun to sing.

The live version on Tom Snyder goes as hard as any tune from the Clash:

RustySilver42@reddit
And another gets on, and another gets on.
Another one rides the bus.
I don't think I have heard that song in literal decades. Lol

I know it’s not his old stuff, but the nerd in me loves “Word Crimes.”

"I wonder what's in this supply closet."

Weird Al in 3D was the second album I bought with my own money.
Thriller was the first.
Hard to say which I loved more.
LadyNorbert@reddit
He's going to be at Musikfest in Bethlehem, PA this summer. I've lived in this area my entire life and this is the first time I've actually considered braving the Musikfest crowd.
Mermaid_Lily@reddit
I saw him in Roanoke, VA about 10 years ago with my son. He puts on a really good show!
Cultural-Pea-1516@reddit
The very first cassette I ever bought was Dare To Be Stupid and I've been a fan ever since. I think the most valuable music related item I own is the vinyl Squeeze Box.

How many of them did you need to go back and play the original so your offspring would know what Al was parodying?
chrisj2103@reddit (OP)
He had heard some various parodies. I played the first 3 albums.
phred_666@reddit
One of my most frequently listened to playlists on Spotify is my Weird Al playlist I made.
chrisj2103@reddit (OP)
After I listen today I said I'm definately making a Weird AL Playlist! 1st and favorite song is Midnight Star
phred_666@reddit
Funny enough, I just started my Weird Al playlist again.

Now I've got Velvet Elvis in my head again.... He's so fuzzy!!!!!
Upper_Economist7611@reddit
I’ve been to five of his shows and met him in person twice. Once when I had a VIP ticket. The second time, we were just hanging out after the show and one of his people invited us to his bus, where he came out, said hello and chatted with us for a few minutes, and signed autographs. He’s every bit as cool and down to earth as you’d expect!
wykkedfaery33@reddit
My brother was a huge Weird Al fan growing up (which is how I got into him), and a few years ago I took him to see Weird Al perform at our city's historic theater, it was so much fun. He started the show with Tacky, but he started outside of the theater and dances his way up to the stage while singing
kellyjeanie@reddit
Saw him last summer with my kids! Give yourselves a smile and go see him, he's touring again :)

If you like him....check out Ray Stevens sometime

I saw him at Summerfest in Milwaukee the summer after his first album was released in 1983. He was on a little side stage. I was 15 and there were maybe 20 of us in the audience. I was in heaven.
Top-Nose2659@reddit
Going to see him with my daughter this summer
Outrageous-Ticket719@reddit
Me too! I’m a little jealous that in the future, she’ll be able to say that Weird Al was her first concert
BitterPillPusher2@reddit
When my kids were little, we took them to see Weird Al concert. I was never a huge fan, but he really puts on a great show.

Mr Frump In His Iron Lung.

“One More Minute” is my favorite, but I will always have a soft spot for “Albuquerque”.
I actually prefer his original songs to his parodies.
CableSufficient2788@reddit
Just went and watched the video. Still so good.
Scarecrow426@reddit
"In 3-D" was one of my first tapes.
When my kids were little, I'd play random Weird Al songs for them, but they had no context of the original song, so they didn't understand that it was a parody. He put an album out in 2014. My kids were 13 and 9, so they were familiar with some of the songs the parodies were based on. We were on a road trip, and I put in the CD. When the lyrics finally kick in on the first song, my 9 year old yells "This isn't how that song goes!". After that, we would make up our own words to various songs. Mission accomplished.
HeavyNeedleworker707@reddit
HAHAHAHA! Reminds me of my little sister watching Sesame Street - there were recurring segments of “Monsterpiece Theatre with Allistair Cookie” starring Cookie Monster, in a book-lined study sitting in a wingback chair wearing a smoking jacket. Years later she saw an actual episode of Masterpiece Theatre with Allister Cooke and she couldn’t stop laughing.
somewherein72@reddit
That was the first record I bought, still have it, and I wish it didn't skip so bad on I Lost On Jeopardy.
waterwoman76@reddit
He's touring. Going to see him this summer.
spargel_gesicht@reddit
Took my nephew to see him last summer. Great show.
0biswan@reddit
Last year I brought my 7 year old to see Weird Al for her first concert. The entire crowd could sing along to pretty much every song (I haven't heard some of the songs in probably 20 years or more) and he had amazing energy for the entire thing. Costume changes, set changed, interstitials. And my kid loved it and we still listen all of the time.
I never understood why I can recall these lyrics at a moment's notice, but I can't do long division if you held a gun to my head.
BaconToTheBaconPower@reddit
Remember this: The can is there to hold in the SPAM.
Chibi-Skyler@reddit
I've loved his music since "In 3D."
The funniest is when I have my playlist of his music on, a parody is playing, and it takes someone a bit to realize it's not the original song!🤣 Always gets a big laugh!
Solid-Wish-1724@reddit
Seen Weird Al several times and he'salways so great. One time Emo Phillips opened and I did NOT expect him to be so funny!
ChronoMonkeyX@reddit
There are some YouTube videos of "kids react" and they did some with weird Al. It was really cute seeing them discover him.
migraine24-7@reddit
Love Weird Al, my husband and I have been to several of his concerts through the years and he has all of his CDs. Last year we got VIP tickets and had him sign our Peter and the Wolf CD. It was so awesome to meet him in person.

Have a banana, have a whole bunch. It doesn’t matter what you had for lunch, just eat it!” Same here man, the lyrics are burned into my brain no matter how long it’s been. I was so young when I got into Weird Al back in the day, I heard a lot of his parodies before I heard the real songs

Lol Eat It is one of his favorites!
eastbayted@reddit
My first real rock concert was a Weird Al concert! It was around the time the Eat It video was blowing up on MTV.
He closed the concert with Eat It, and toward the end of the song, dozens of bananas flew onto the stage from either side, and some of my friends and I got some a (very temporary) mementos.
Ive since seen him perform at least three more times. He always puts on great shows.
cl0ckw0rkman@reddit
I had a portable DVD player. Use to take it to work all the time with the son(21) when he was a toddler. Only took to DVDs. One of which was Weird Al's video collection. The son loves Al. We listen to him regularly. The whole house will stop amd sing along when Eat It or Smells Like Nirvana, along with some other songs, come on.
Kilashandra1996@reddit
He's a high % on my 80s music on mo3 player. Mom, "So & So says you can listen to any music on Sirius XM." Me, not my music; I've never heard Weird Al on there, so I ain't buying a subscription...0⁰

gchance1@reddit
I recently did that with In 3D, Dare To Be Stupid, & Even Worse. Word for word, and those take me right back. So many good times alone and with friends, listening to those albums. Driving while screaming the words to Stuck In The Closet With Vanna White & You Make Me, windows down, hoping people would see our weirdness. Crazy to think that was almost 40 years ago!

My husband made a reference to either Fat or Eat It (I don't remember which) over dinner a few weeks ago. This led to us explaining about Weird Al to our 12-year-old. We played snippets of the original Beat It, Bad, and Gangster's Paradise and the Weird Al versions. Kid thinks Weird Al is hilarious.

I've heard he puts on a really good show. He played at out state fair a few years ago, but I missed it. My husband and I came to watch the band that was playing the next day and there was this kid there, maybe 18 that tells my husband and I that Weird Al rocked it the previous night. It was really sweet the way he was so enthusiastic about it and wanted to let people know. My husband and I still talk about it. 😆
