If you're governed at 65, and the guy you're trying to pass is driving 64.5, don't pass. Just drive 64.5. Stop being so impatient.
TiddybraXton333@reddit
Well there’s also hills and heavier loads. The next hill you hit the guy in front of you drops speed significantly making you have to slow down. There’s reasons for passing
GoBBleRoFDaCoK69@reddit
Pay attention Fed Ex this comment is for you ^
Voxicles@reddit
😂 I drive for FXG, governed at 65. At least 10 times a week I’ll have another FXG guy snail past me at 65.5. If there’s traffic, I’ll cut my cruise and let them go, but if no one else is on the road, I’ll let them take the 15 minutes it takes to pass me, then I’ll smoke them on the next uphill, because they don’t know how to downshift… And then 30 minutes later there they are again trying to snail past me 😆
Huzul34@reddit
So annoying
firemarshalbill316@reddit
Exactly!
Imjusta_pug@reddit
I can almost guarantee you what happened was the truck in the left lane attempted to pass, then the idiot in the right decided to speed up creating this situation. At which point the guy in the left should have backed off and loved back over, but that shit happens all the damn time.
deadpat03@reddit
But how else do I get that extra 20$ a year doing that? Whore my self at loves?

Sixpacksack@reddit
Bowen passing you can go 5 mi over, so you can make that difference greater and still feel comfortable passing people doing that
PraiseTalos66012@reddit
Normally when this happens to me it's bc I'm doing 68 and come up on someone doing 64/65 but when I pass they start double tapping to also go 68 and my truck doesn't have double tap/smart pass.
But if they are only doing 66/67 when double tapping I'm still gonna pass them, they are the ones being a dumbass and trying to stop me from passing that's not my problem.
Temporary-Outside-13@reddit
To better describe your comment like a TRUE Reddit poster… you are stopping for gas at some point or need to poop. .5 mph is like 3-5 minutes tops.
Smauler@reddit
Used to do a run where I had max 15 minutes driving time each end on my tacho. Going 1mph slower would fuck me up, so too right I'm going to overtake someone going 1mph slower than me.
CompletelyPaperless@reddit
It usually comes down to observing what the other truck does during uphills and downhills. When you drive 8 hours straight, you don't need to let others dictate your speed. Everyone should just be patient with each other, but since no one is, don't be surprised everyone is gonna take care of themselves only.
adidaman@reddit
Youre part of the problem, super trucker
CompletelyPaperless@reddit
Not at all. When possible, I try to be courteous BUT...I've got enough experience to know the rule, "damned if you do, damned if you don't."
As a trucker, people are constantly gonna hate, so take care of yourself.
"Don't set yourself on fire to keep others warm."
ChiTruckDGAF@reddit
Your definition of "possible" is inaccurate.
CompletelyPaperless@reddit
Yet I'm the one here trying to be genuine and honest, while you guys are trying to be toxic and calling me super trucker with little knowledge, and quickly rushing to pick apart a statement. Sounds like maybe just like when driving, people on reddit are rarely not self serving or courteous. Just trolls.
I've spent plenty of times being passed, and when they struggle I slow down a bit to let them pass, just for them to cut me off and then slow down once they're in front. Or I try to pass, just for the other driver to speed up. Once you get back behind, they slow back down. My personal driving style is, im not going to let others drain my energy all day. I do what I can to let people go, but I'm ultimately not going to stress about others. I get paid to do a job. Not to worry about not interrupting a four-wheelers 30 minute commute for 2 minutes while I pass.
Mindless_Pandemic@reddit
Wasn't he stuck behind the truck in front of him? Seems like he was just keeping a safe following distance.
Soberg1itch@reddit (OP)
Then why impede traffic if you’re unable to pass?
TouchMyBoomstick@reddit
Because I’m waiting for the slow one infront of me to get out of the way to speed. If I don’t impede then I’ll have a mile line of cars to wait behind once he’s done.
Soberg1itch@reddit (OP)
Sounds like you should stop being impatient and wait then. Safety first
NekoboyBanks@reddit
Are you always this obtuse?
wehavetime@reddit
He may also have a cam/system that doesn’t allow him to be on the bumper of the vehicle in front of him. Which most of the major companies have.
Soberg1itch@reddit (OP)
Sounds like he doesn’t need to be passing then if he’s that regulated
DoctorZebra@reddit
He's not impeding traffic. Can't go faster than the vehicle in front of you.

I can’t stand when idiots go the speed limit in the fast lane…also known as the PASSING lane.
AffectionateEase1606@reddit
Had someone do this to me while I was actively passing a line of cars. Im all for executing left lane campers but on 2 lanes, the left is for passing and that's what I was doing. I was praying they would pull over so I could ruin both of our lives.
YoloVib3s@reddit
As a truck driver this typically means the left lane camper was rolling up on the guy in the right lane. He switched lanes to pass & the guy in the right lane got a wild hair up his ass & decided to be a dick by speeding up. Which ends up making the left lane guy look like the asshole when the guy in the right lane is the real asshole!!
Historical_Pea4942@reddit
Where is this energy when a car is in the left lane driving slow though? Cars drive slow and hog up the left lane way more often than trucks
Early_Ad3574@reddit
When I get into this situation, I just take the nearest exit, wait a minute or so, and get back on the road.

If someone was trying to pass me that was going slightly faster, assuming they weren't a dragonfly truck (drag up the hill,.fly down the other side), id just click my cruise down, let them pass, they crank it back up.
Having them next to you increases risk for collision especially in an emergency (deer, road debree). In the right lane and can't go faster, just go slower for 10-20 seconds to get them away from you.
In this instance my slower speed should not hold others hostage. I can slow down for 20 second to let them pass.
Right lane guy, or slower driver should click her down for 10 seconds, and let the slightly faster guy pass. Change my mind.

bshr49@reddit
So what happened before this?
Based on shadows, it looks like there are 1 or 2 trucks in front of the one in the right lane and the person with the black soft-side trailer in the left got over as soon as they could, probably too close to whoever they had just passed.
Was everyone passing on the right? Without more context, all I see is some jackass passing on the shoulder and brake checking a truck in the left lane who was just maintaining a safe following distance from the truck in front of them.
Passing is passing, whether it’s 0.5mph or 10mph. It’s a minor inconvenience, but what do I know… I’m just some dumb 4-wheeler.
supermarble94@reddit
A brake check is when you slam on the brakes in order to check and see if the driver is paying attention. This was a forced deceleration. This was also road rage and that car is guilty of several felonies.
That being said, I ain't no snitch when I see a good deed being done. If you don't have the speed available on your gas pedal to pass, don't pass.
J-Rag-@reddit
So... the truck that got cut off and brake checked is in the wrong for keeping a safe following distance from the next truck up? Are yall stupid and cant see theres more than one vehicle in the left lane? If that truck speeds up he's just gonna be tailgating the next truck..
Soberg1itch@reddit (OP)
If you need that many truck lengths between you and the truck in front of you then why not wait until the lane is clear instead of impeding traffic?
wehavetime@reddit
Do you not know the appropriate following distance for a semi truck? Do you also not know that it increases depending on speed?
Soberg1itch@reddit (OP)
Where in my comment did I make a judgement call on if he was following at the appropriate distance or not?
Cosmic_Orphan@reddit
It could have been clear, and then another vehicle/truck pulled into passing lane in front of the truck causing the original truck to slow down to create following distance. Then if truck that pulled out is slower, it creates a longer delay giving traffic time to catch up. I'm with J Rag. We have no idea what happened before this took place but we do know the 4 wheeler created several dangerous situations.
Soberg1itch@reddit (OP)
Coulda woulda shoulda. Still all we can see here is a truck not passing while impeding traffic in the left lane. You’re right, we have no idea what happened before this, so there’s no reason to add assumptions
DoctorZebra@reddit
You keep on with this "impeding traffic" shit. Where the fuck are you going to go if he moves over? You'll just be stuck behind the same truck that the truck is stuck behind.
Stop being so goddamned impatient. Impatience is far more dangerous that anything these trucks are doing.
Soberg1itch@reddit (OP)
Looks like the truck is being impatient by blocking the lane to go 0.5 mph faster
J-Rag-@reddit
That's not that far.. maybe 3-4 seconds behind the truck in front. That's a a fairly safe following distance for big trucks. Being in the passing lane doesn't mean you reduce your following distance and drive closer to the next truck..
You dont sound like a truck driver, is that correct? There are times where you get caught out in the left lane unintentionally. You speed up to pass someone, then the person you pass speed matches. Or you go to pass someone and then realize that there are 4 other trucks in the right lane going slower and then your intended plan of passing 1 truck turns into passing 4 trucks. Meanwhile you're going the truck speed limit or your truck is governed at 65 or whatever while cars going 75+ come up behind you that were not close behind you when you started passing.
99% of the time sitting in the left lane longer than we need to be is totally unintentional.
Soberg1itch@reddit (OP)
I’ve been an Owner/Operator for over a decade now. I never specified what is or isn’t a safe distance, I just said if you require that safe distance and that requirement means you are unable to pass and are impeding traffic because of it then why not wait?
J-Rag-@reddit
Okay so then you do know a thing or two supposedly. So then you'd realize that the safe distance isn't making it unable to pass, it's the speed of the truck in the front that is making him unable to pass. If the truck in front was going faster or wasn't there, then the other truck could step on it a bit more and get pass quicker. You realize you can only go as fast as the person in front of you, right?
And by the time that car cut off the other truck and brake checked, the truck up front was back in the right lane
Soberg1itch@reddit (OP)
So if you’re unable to pass then why are you in the passing lane?
UOLZEPHYR@reddit
HES UNABLE TO PASS BECAUSE THERE IS ANOTHER FUCKING TRUCK IN FRONT OF HIM YOU STUPID FUCKING MORON
J-Rag-@reddit
It appears that the truck was passing by how it was coming up on the truck in the right lane. It was just going the same speed as the truck ahead of him..
UOLZEPHYR@reddit
WRONG. Watch the video again and try using your eyes.
Watch the FIRST TRUCK and see they're trying to provide enough space in front of the other truck to not be an asshole.
From the time the Nissian jumps and forces 2nd truck to slow down - the other truck has already started moving over back to the right lane.
You are a stupid mother fucker and need to turn in your CDL, make the roads a safer place for all of us. Get all the way fucked.

I got banned for a week for going off in the comments on the original post in another sub 😅
Bunch of 4 wheelers acting really dumb and full of themselves about how this is okay
I explained in passionate details the possible consequences of this and got banned for it
Can't tell people how dangerous this is or they will get offended
Break checking a semi, assuming they can stop in time, just to prove a point
Of course in good ol reddit fashion, letting people know something logical and true gets you a ton of backlash
wehavetime@reddit
A lot impatient truckers were also in agreement with what was done here. Smh.
meizhong@reddit
Am I the only one that sees the other truck in front? How was he gonna pass until the first truck finished?
It's possible that the truck in question was blocking traffic, but if so, how did the other truck get in front of him?? He was already in front of the truck in the right and just moved to the left for no reason then went back?? Far more truck in front wasn't even finished passing when the 4 wheeler went in between them.
wehavetime@reddit
Finally someone with sense. Let’s also consider the fact that the trucker has a cam/system that alerts his company if he’s too close to another vehicle. Which would explain the gap between the flat bed and him.
qaf0v4vc0lj6@reddit
Who needs following distance when you have self-absorbed four wheelers who are in a hurry to get where they are going, but not in too much of a hurry to no brake check semis?
UOLZEPHYR@reddit
This needs to be top comment. If people actually paid attention they'd see and understand second truck is giving his proper speed cushion AS PRESCRIBED BY LAW.
The little car didnt care, is a fucking idiot and needs to be taken off the street.

radiationblessing@reddit
That truck managed to pass.
UOLZEPHYR@reddit
Watch the video again and try using your eyes.
The truck in front is accelerating and moving further ahead BEFORE moving back to the right lane.
Little car that jumps right and cuts off 2nd truck (the one labeled left lane camper) does not see this (because he is an idiot and not a professional driver)
Yall are some STUPID ass MOTHERFUCKERS and it shows.
I_carry@reddit
That’s what I think every time I see this. The truck that was “blocking” was maintaining a following distance until he got labeled a left lane camper.
TotallyNotJoking101@reddit
Day by day I see that people in the US have no clue what the left lane is for
nglwood@reddit
As a four wheeler, I have to ask - noticed that SO MANY 18 wheelers are just putting it in the left-center lane on cruise control around 60 mph. Yes, the left lane is for passing, but what is the reason for cruising left-center??? Referring to I 294 Illinois if that helps.
echo78@reddit
TBF there is a part of 294 with no lane restrictions and you need to be on the left for the 290/88 construction section. Otherwise just because its easier and they don't gotta deal with all the people merging. Not like people are gonna be going much faster than 65 on 294 during the day anyway with all that traffic lol.
heisenberg2JZ@reddit
It's to avoid clogging up the merge lanes. Too much left lane is a problem, too much right lane is a problem. Gotta go with the flow and not be in the way ever haha
nglwood@reddit
I guess this is the best response for me. I get too much left and too much right. Guess I just wish it was more right-center than left-center. Be safe everyone.
heisenberg2JZ@reddit
The key is to have a 500 horsepower car, then gaps are yours to take and traffic becomes an illusion. Don't cut up, but you can bypass a lot of bs in my experience.
Mindless_Pandemic@reddit
Trucks stay in center 2 lanes on 4 lanes around chicago to avoid merging traffic, psychos cutting them off last second for exits, and crazies that will cross the gore zone to pass them. Driving into chicago is like entering the 3rd world.
flynnfarts@reddit
Tbh I drive a lot for work now (4 wheels), and occasionally cut up past thataway, and I get why they stick in those lanes. Merging traffic is its own form of hell and danger!
heisenberg2JZ@reddit
Right lane is the new passing lane. Generally only two types in the right lane, and its usually not the camping NPC types
duckbobtarry@reddit
Unfortunately true. If I drive in the right lane, there are several times I'll pass clusters of traffic if the left 2 just by driving the speed limit. Why are they over there?
charonco@reddit
This looks to me like somebody not knowing what the shoulder is for. The left lane is for passing. There's no limit on how fast you have to pass somebody. You don't know the story behind this. It's possible that the person being passed is doing stupid shit like not paying attention and not using cruise control and keeps slowing down which gets frustrating to the person behind them. It's also possible, since this is the way I typically get stuck in the left lane, that the person in the left lane moved over to be courteous and left the truck in the right lane get on the highway and then that person sped up and matched their speed and the people behind him won't back off to let the truck back in.

Capt_Cyral@reddit
So a truck keeping an appropriate distance from the truck ahead of him, while their both passing another truck is the bad guy here??.. the 4 wheeler was stupidly in a hurry..
brandmonkey@reddit
I had someone do this to me, except I wasn't camping, I was doing 10moh over the limit and slowly gaining on the flatbed I was trying to pass. So this Tesla blows past me and pulls in front of me to slam on his breaks. I wanted to plow into him. I started going into the right lane, he takes off, and I pull right back into the left lane and watch him scream and throw fingers in the air, because now you've made it personal, now I am gonna camp. You don't decide how I drive this truck, I'm sorry I'm governed and can't pass as fast as you.

Just another four-wheel know-it-all.
Soberg1itch@reddit (OP)
How would the truck on the right be an asshole? He’s not the one impeding traffic, the slow truck in the passing lane is the one in the wrong
DrBoy205@reddit
Because he is matching the left trucks speed. The guy in the left lane didn’t just magically appear. The dude in the right lane either needs to slow and let him pass or speed up and get back in front.
Soberg1itch@reddit (OP)
The driver in the right lane is now responsible for the actions of other drivers? This is just cope for the left truck impeding traffic
DrBoy205@reddit
Left truck is the main problem, yeah. But if the right truck is pacing him, he’s part of the problem too. All he has to do is lift for a few seconds or speed up. Instead he’s helping create a wall.
qaf0v4vc0lj6@reddit
He should dial it back a couple notches and let the truck on the Left pass. They probably got beside one another on a hill because they are governed at the same speed but the guy on the right is loaded heavier and was going slower on an incline.
Soberg1itch@reddit (OP)
That’s a lot of assumptions which still don’t lead it to being the fault of the truck in the right lane
qaf0v4vc0lj6@reddit
If they were governed at the same speed how else do they get side by side?

AsphaltPirate74@reddit
I hate it when I see a line of trucks on my left and I slow down to let the slow one in front pass, then that guy just cuts me off and maintains his speed, not even doing the same thing I did for the next guy. So many inconsiderate dumb asses both CDL and 4 wheelers these days.
Wu-Tang_Panda@reddit
I'll say the same thing I commented on this video on YouTube.... I blame the guy in the right lane. Always some asshole driving 30+ miles going 60 you go to pass him at 65-67 and they want to speed up. You slow down get behind them to let traffic through, they slow down again in another 5 miles. You try to pass them again and same thing. Then eventually they decide to start driving 70 once they get off their phones and see a mile long strip of cars behind both of them. Like bro all you have to do is look at the road it's not rocket science. I swear the situational awareness of some of you drivers out here baffles me dude. I'm surprised half of y'all ain't dead.
droptozro@reddit
Good way to get PIT'd is all I see. I don't care how pissed you are that he's passing him that slow. It's illegal to go around and pass on the right and then brake check the truck. Laws still trump your impatience every time.
