Thank you, thats incredibly sweet. Its not the first time shes been in and for the same thing, sadly. I do have support from friends, I just needed to speak to someone random last night.

The offer of a random is always there ❤️

Hello I’m an ITU nurse and I really recommend you speak to the nurse or nurse in charge who can direct you to the right places!
The main one is ICUsteps — they support relatives of ICU patients and understand exactly what you’re going through. They have a support line and groups, and even if it’s late, it’s still worth reaching out or leaving a message:
📞 ICUsteps support line: 0300 302 0136
Also, if your sister is currently in ICU, you can call the unit directly and ask to speak to the nurse looking after her or the nurse in charge. They won’t just give clinical updates - if you say you’re struggling and need someone to talk to, they will take the time. That’s part of their role, especially overnight when things are quieter. I talk to a lot of relatives overnight.
Some hospitals also have an on-call chaplain overnight — you don’t have to be religious at all, they’re there purely for support and will come sit with you or talk on the phone.

Thank you, thats really helpful, I appreciate it.

Would the Samaritans be a good place to start for you?
wonkybrainwitch@reddit
Samaritans are possibly one of the few helplines that wouldn't help OP as they explicitly work with people in direct crisis. Just FYI for anyone reading!
Dollys_Mom@reddit
Hi, this is a common misconception about Samaritans. The helpline is for anyone in emotional distress, whether they're suicidal or in "direct crisis", or want to talk things through.
Nonchalancer@reddit
Wdym by sister… so I know how to guide you lol
Laescha@reddit
I'm so sorry you're in this position, it's horrible.
Generally speaking all of the mental health helplines are happy to help friends and family as well as the person in crisis - for example, CALM: https://www.thecalmzone.net/suicide-prevention-helpline

^(What is this?)

In addition to CALM etc being a very very good shout, hospital chaplaincy teams are truly amazing nonjudgmental professionally trained listeners - if you wanted an in person chat, those may well be your guys/gals. It doesn’t matter if you’re an atheist or of a different religion and they aren’t allowed to preach or try and convert. Just support emotionally (and, of course, spiritually, if and only if that is applicable).

samaritans? you dont have to be the one in immediate crisis to contact them, they'll talk to anyone going through it, and by the sound of it you are absolutely going through it (i hope you're doing ok)
captainfishpie@reddit
hi, OP. I would like to just offer you some hope.
I was your sister, after 2 intention medication overdoses (due to me an addicted i tried to commit suicide) I was in icu twice for a long time.
I am now clean 18 month - it can happen with the right support and I cant imagine how hard it must be for you sitting back and watching it all unfold.
I hope it all works out for your sister and your family.

Ask if your employer has an employee assistance program. Free phone support for you 24/7. Usually also includes some free counseling visits in addition to the phone support on demand.
