Is there a need to know news sub?

I don't read newspapers, but want to know what's happening. Is there a subreddit that just posts need to know news?

I got sick of only hearing bad news, so I made this website: https://goodnewsforthe.uk/
It reads lots of news sites, rates them for happiness, scores them, rewrites the clickbait headlines and gives a good summary. You can then click to read the original article.
Honestly, it's a breath of fresh air after so much doom and gloom.

I love what you’ve done, but I do find it hilarious that when I clicked on ‘education’ nothing came up.

This is fixed. I had a typo in my code.

Not much in that category yet, surprise. It's only been running a few days, I'm sure it'll fill eventually.
Hmm, actually, I might have to dual categorise else community could win over education. Improvements ahoy.

Best I found for my own needs was to use Ground News instead of reddit or individual news sites.

www.bbc.co.uk
You're welcome.

BBC tend to miss a lot of stories unfortunately and their articles tend to be pretty scant on detail most of the time.

No one news source can report on everything. That would be impossible. It's why you should ideally source your news from multiple places.
AnonymousTimewaster@reddit
True enough, but you'd expect one of the largest and most trusted news organisations in the world to hit on most things and do regular deep diving.

r/goodnewsuk is a nice one if you're a bit fatigued with constant doom and gloom
Jeoh@reddit
Also if you want to hear "Good news everyone" in your head every time you open the sub

There's a new Dacia Sandero.

Adding to what others have said, besides the BBC I read:
AP News
Reuters
Both are well regarded.
mattcannon2@reddit
The first 7 stories of bbc News, or the 6 o clock update on radio 4.
RecentTwo544@reddit
Exactly what I was going to say.
If it's not top and massive on the BBC News website, then all good, don't worry about it.
If it's top and massive on the BBC News website but after 0.3 seconds you realise it won't affect you, then move on.
If it's top and massive and takes up the entire top-third, probably worth reading on a bit then realising it doesn't affect you most likely.
It it's top and massive and takes up the entire top-third and they've brought out the special black-background-with-white-text then probably worth reading on and even then 99% chance the vast majority of people in the UK will need to do sod all different and just crack on with day to day life.

Take 5 minutes to download Flipboard onobile and tell it what you're interested in. Then you'll get a daily serving of articles from all over.

Why not just read a news website?
LittleSadRufus@reddit
My daughter gets The Week Junior and really I think it contains pretty much all of what I need to know about what's going on out there (and more besides). Anything I need to know in more detail I might research briefly.
Odd_Bug_7029@reddit
How about a news app? Sky news or BBC?
*other brands available
anonoaw@reddit
Just read the news.
No-Door-3181@reddit
I don't have a TV or read newspapers so I just listen to the radio on the background
