We made it to Guinea!

I thought, I introduce myself here. Me and my partner are currently on an overland trip along the coast of Africa. We started in Hamburg and made it to Guinea two days ago. It was a pretty wild ride.
We now need to go to the capital to sort out paperwork, and the main roads are pretty bad here. It's all dirt, corrugations, washed out sections... Overall we've averaged 20km/h over the first two days. Maybe tomorrow well be back on tarmac. Hopefully we can make it to the Ivory Coast before the heavy rain starts.
We are debating weather it is better to take the direct road or make the detour over Sierra Leone and Liberia. The detour seems to have better roads until the very end. But then there seems to be a bad dirt track just before the border. If anyone of you have a suggestion...
Anyway, here is the responsible Self-Promotion part. I have a small Instagram mostly for my family: Instagram
Also, maybe interesting for you as well. Here you can see what kind if rigs the European overlander drive.

This is excellent - what's the vehicle? I recognise the old Mercedes van but don't know much about them.

Nice. Did you go by Diama?

Yes. No issues. The Carnet situation is still a mess. You have 2 days to go to Dakar and get it stamped.
In general I am very surprised about the lack of corruption. Not a single problem so far.

What's the process, thinking of going my self. Was Morocco that bad?
ChibaCityFunk@reddit (OP)
No... Not at all. Morocco was lovely and surprisingly easy to travel. Also it's landscapes are incredibly diverse. From the Sahara Desert to the forests of the Riff... Amazing beaches everywhere, and then the snow covered peaks of the Atlas...
The only thing is that people constantly try to sell you stuff.
Do it!

Thank you. Hey totally random but as I plan my trips can I ping you? Bad ass rig too btw. Congratulations.

Yeah! Thanks a lot! PN me once you start, and I’ll connect you to the relevant WhatsApp Overland groups.
Playful_Possible_379@reddit
Dude that'd be rad. Thx. Much appreciated.

You’re very welcome! Also: Do it! It’s worth it!

Already on it. We spent 8+ hours today alone working on the rig and kits. Starting in Alaska going to Argentina.

Oh! So the West-Africa groups are probably not too useful for you… 😂
But the Pan Americana is also on my bucket list!
Playful_Possible_379@reddit
Actually we plan on going there with some friends. They have a rig out of Portugal. And we plan Morocco, and back to Spain. Probably trying to map out our trip after that.
Current itinerary, Alaska,to San Diego. Then pause a bit. And go explore over seas.
Leave the rig in USA while we get your miles with our friends and fly back. (To keep it short)

And how is Mauretania these days? Any sketchy encounters?
ChibaCityFunk@reddit (OP)
Mauritania was lovely. After spending a few month in Morocco and being harassed by every street vendor in sight I finally regained my faith in humanity. The kindest people I've ever met!

That looks awesome! We’ll be travelling west Africa down to Namibia. Starting in January 2027. Just wondering the visa situation and insurance. Did you do a lot of work beforehand or just on arrival? Also wondering about food. Do you cook yourself or just go to local places? We’ll be forever thankful if you have some insights and tips for us. We’ll take our Suzuki Grand Vitara 4x4 with rooftoptent. 2 adults and 4 year old :)

great picts! im in love with those greyish blue boulders!! more info on location or picts please!

They are known as the ‘Blue Rocks’. An artist who had lost his wife painted them blue and pink as an expression of his grief.
They are located in the centre of the Anti-Atlas in Morocco. The town is called Tafraout. It’s a gorgeous place worth visiting even without those rocks.
