What weird or wonderful thing has your SO opened your mind to?

I have just found out that my wife sometimes puts on one sock, one shoe, the other sock then the remaining shoe, but never with boots, only trainers and slippers.
Icy-Belt-8519@reddit
Food, I am the worst picky eater and he's opened up so much food for me
tellhimhesdreamin9@reddit
Same! He even tastes things for me to tell me what to expect. In return I introduced him to old movies.
MuntyCatt@reddit (OP)
That's sweet.
Solid_Bee666@reddit
It might be savoury.
MidnightRambler87@reddit
Ba dum tssh.
programming_unit_1@reddit
Unlikely to be foreign food.
DerwentPencilMuseum@reddit
He's got a can opener or what?
VolcanicBear@reddit
Squeegying the water off my body with my hands after a shower before using a towel. Much more efficient drying.
adreddit298@reddit
Even better if you squeegee the water off each other's bodies
reditcyclist@reddit
What have the Romans ever given us?
spampoo@reddit
Well there is the roads
knotmidgelet@reddit
Well alright, but apart from the roads, what have the Romans ever given us?
mojnjaro@reddit
Pizza?
Akash_nu@reddit
If we’re talking about the Roman civilisation then pizza didn’t exist at that point. They used to have medieval hard bread.
Also, pizza was invented in Naples and that to relatively in the modern era in the 1800.
philff1973@reddit
Sanitation?
threeleggedcats@reddit
Ramen at their airport.
Inthepurple@reddit
I just don't feel like this is ever a problem I've had that I've needed to solve, takes prob a minute lol
caniuserealname@reddit
And it just seems like extra work... how's it more efficient doing two things when you only need to do one?
lost_send_berries@reddit
Well with British weather I'm damp even after drying off
pines6103@reddit
I do this, but my wife doesn't. Every time I see her get out of the shower I get distracted. Then my brain resets.
onionsofwar@reddit
This is really useful for my big hairy back.
JeremyTwiggs@reddit
Discovered this while backpacking. Wipe the water off with a flannel, wring it out, repeat until dry, then finish with a towel which barely gets damp.
Then you can get on that 6am bus to the next destination without packing a wet towel or getting everything in your backpack wet.
Proud-Initiative8372@reddit
This is my preferred method
Frequent-Bluejay662@reddit
I started doing this too recently, definitely stops the towel getting as wet
unexpected_duck@reddit
I do this, then I get a hand towel to get mostly dry then wrap myself in a big towel to laze about in until I am fully dry, no more big wet towels (apart from my hair towel)
y0dav3@reddit
I do this. It's quite satisfying
MuntyCatt@reddit (OP)
Oh wow, she recently told me she does this too, and it actually does work.
mojnjaro@reddit
Yeah it was a joke. Never mind...
rubberbandhands@reddit
It’s sock, sock, shoe, shoe. Sock shoe sock shoe is psychotic behaviour
Adventurous_Ad3451@reddit
Or you do a lot of swimming. Sock, shoe, sock, shoe is vital if the floor is wet.
rubberbandhands@reddit
Nah, still sock sock shoe shoe - you can rest your foot on the top of your shoe before putting it on so you don’t have to put your foot directly on the floor (because of course wet floor plus socked feet is hell on earth). That’s provided the changing room has a bench, thankfully most do
crashtesthoney@reddit
Unless you are autistic, or disabled, or injured… How much better the world would be if we were less judgmental.
pajamakitten@reddit
Do we need to qualify this with every post nowadays?
DanyisBlue@reddit
It's not that deep
NaturalSuccessful521@reddit
Not eating meat. She wasn't at all pushy, but cooked amazing veg meals and I realised that I didn't need animals on my plate. It's been about 13 years.
adsm_inamorta@reddit
Any moral factor in your change of mind? I'm sure veg meals can be great, but I can't fathom that's sufficient reason alone to remove meat and all the included nutrients, protein etc.
Dismal_Fox_22@reddit
Such an ignorant point of view. I haven’t eaten meant for 30 years and have never had an issue with nutrition. Meat is not essential to our diet. Especially with all the alternatives available now.
adsm_inamorta@reddit
You really struggle to get B12 and omega 3 (specifically EPA/DHA) in sufficient quantities though. You're reliant on fortified foods and supplements to get these, neither of which are ideal.
Do you actually test for nutritional deficiencies though? Probs not with that high and mighty attitude.
Educational_Syrup489@reddit
Not the person you were replying to, but I’ve been vegan, then pseudo-pescatarian (allergies to egg and milk) for 5 years total. I was actually tested for vitamin deficiencies a few months ago, and my B12 was fine, but I was deficient in vitamin D, which is probably genetic because two of my omnivore close relatives are also vitamin D deficient. I also get blood tests every 6 months for a health condition, and my drs have raised no concerns.
pajamakitten@reddit
Most people in the UK are vitamin D deficient because of a lack of sunlight here. It is recommended everyone supplement for that reason.
Proud-Initiative8372@reddit
How do the animals get their B12 though? Cows and things that are herbivores (?)
BarracudaFar1905@reddit
Cows don’t get vitamin B12 directly from grass. Microbes in their rumen produce it using cobalt from the plants they eat. Without enough cobalt in their diet, those microbes can’t make B12, and the cow becomes deficient.
pajamakitten@reddit
Which is why they are fed fortified feed.
Matthew94@reddit
Why don’t cows just photosynthesise? Are they dumb???
Dismal_Fox_22@reddit
I actually tested them all last night. I’d had some mild anaemia secondary to blood loss a few months ago so was just rechecking. Everything was fine. I don’t generally eat hyper processed foods or fortified products other than simple things like breads and cereals which are fortified for everyone.
pippagator@reddit
If you can't "fathom" how to get nutrients and protein from non-meat sources, then you're quite simply thick as shit x
Limp-Biscuit411@reddit
you still get your nutrients and protein without eating meat lol
HowUtterlyGhastly@reddit
Heheh... conversely my wife introduced me to the concept of Mett, which is minced raw pork.
Absolutely delicious, and I would fully recommend it.
BeardRustler@reddit
Tried this once, flavour was fine but I just couldn't get over the texture. Definitely not something I will be having again
HowUtterlyGhastly@reddit
Yeah it's odd... I loved it but I can see why many wouldn't.
Sixybeast626@reddit
Not my current SO but an ex brushed her teeth with warm water, I judged her hard. Then she pointed out pretty much everything else you clean is using warm water and I tried it, was converted. Have brushed my teeth with warm water for 27 years now.
I know from a technical point of view it makes little difference but just feels right now.
scotianheimer@reddit
Probably ok if you have a combi, not sure I’d do that if you have a hot water tank though 🤢
spearmint_wino@reddit
Mmm, dead mouse soup
dismaldunc@reddit
pre- lids on tanks , I also removed a squirrel which just kinda fell apart as I scooped it out. so that was unpleasant. customer had complained of "funky smelling hot water"
koala1125@reddit
Only warm water? Or toothpaste too?
dismaldunc@reddit
That you can put your belt on your trousers BEFORE putting them on!! it never occurred to me to do this!
alledarual@reddit
When eating crackers or something crumbly, sucking in some air (carefully) when biting the cracker to keep the crumbs off of you or the table.
ceehred@reddit
Listening and being grateful. Two things that were sadly lacking in my younger self; both have been positive influences on me.
ImThatBitchNoodles@reddit
Mayonnaise on pizza and sea food. Mayo on pizza just seemed straight up unhinged to me until I tried it a couple of times. Sea food was just a texture thing, but turns out I've only ever experienced shitty sea food before knowing him and now I love it.
I opened his mind to rare and blue steaks. When we met he would only eat medium well steaks and would say steaks are not really his thing. I'm a steak lover so I always offered a bite of mine every time I had it. He loves steak now, mostly rare, but if I go for blue he does too.
CloudCat11@reddit
Sugar in coffee. I hated coffee for the taste but loved the smell of it, never thought of putting sugar in it, I'm now able to enjoy more hot drinks that aren't just hot chocolate
Soniq268@reddit
Clothing matching. My wife’s socks, t shirt and hoodie have to match (hello, autism). I have somehow picked this up and my top, glasses and earrings have to match. Which meant I’ve expanded my glasses collection to 11 pairs 🙈
westofcentre@reddit
Is that a symptom of autism, I've worn matching tops socks and undies since I left school. I love the fact that Uniqlo have 50 different coloured plain socks and I probably have half of them in my sock drawer. They're sorted in rainbow order.
I may need to have a think about this autism thing...
Wilfy50@reddit
Sorry, I am having a very slow brain day. Your SO puts a sock on, then a shoe, then another sock then the other shoe. How has this opened your mind? I’m lost.
RedHal@reddit
The Smiths. I used to hate the way every fucking line ended on either a minor third or the root note, and only using 5,4 and 1. My SO got me to listen to the actual lyrics and now I kinda like them.
Also the wiping of water off my body in the shower thing.
Chemical-Lettuce2497@reddit
Making pizza with a puff pastry bass
MuntyCatt@reddit (OP)
That sounds like a mess
Chemical-Lettuce2497@reddit
It is if you don't put baking paper underneath it for cooking
Dependent_One6034@reddit
It literally comes supplied with it's own baking paper.
Chemical-Lettuce2497@reddit
First, I don't buy puff pastry lol
Second, I'm fairly certain it doesn't? Like just a sheet of baking paper?
Dependent_One6034@reddit
What do you think stops the pastry from sticking together when they roll it up in the factory?
Chemical-Lettuce2497@reddit
I've never bought it so kinda just assumed it would be a block you roll out if I'm honest
Dependent_One6034@reddit
Ahh, I think it also does come like that. I just jumped straight to the pre-rolled, just roll it out of the paper, and it's done. No need for a rolling pin, no need for extra paper. just cut it to size and put it on a baking tray.
MuntyCatt@reddit (OP)
That sounds like the voice of experience who had to clean an oven.
Acting_Normally@reddit
It isn’t. My wife also makes this and it’s unreal 😋
jabbo13@reddit
It is a flakey delicious mess.
Grab a just roll sheet slap on some tomato puree and toppings of your choice and some cheese.
Jobs a gooden
Solid_Bee666@reddit
Job's a gluten
bamboleando@reddit
I take your puff pastry pizza and raise you naan bread pizza bases. Elite stuff
Chemical-Lettuce2497@reddit
Will definitely give it a shot but I think first ill be having a naan bread base, a curry for sauce and cheese on top.. might even venture into regular pizza toppings and have some chillis and pineapple on the cheese
FFS, when the kitchen is a mess tomorrow, I'll let the missus know she needs to blame you
TheClnl@reddit
Would a short crust guitar work instead?
MeOldChina321@reddit
Have done that with scone mixture
notanadultyadult@reddit
I haven’t made this in years! Used to love it.
Remarkable_Rain_4725@reddit
Ooooh try it in a pie or quiche tin, we wanted pizza but only had pie pastry so made tiny pizza pies full of sauce
Chemical-Lettuce2497@reddit
Will definitely give it a try, can drop the cheese, pineapple, ham and chillis in and lid it too
Might actually make a few of these and not tell the missus/kids it's pizza pies 😂
Emergency_Pea_2232@reddit
That sounds incredible
Chemical-Lettuce2497@reddit
It's crazy good!
Consistent-Pirate-23@reddit
My missus had a tattoo done last year, I went along as moral support, then had one done a few months later
MuntyCatt@reddit (OP)
My wife has a few ~7! I've thought about it but it's just not my thing.
Consistent-Pirate-23@reddit
If you get one you end up getting hooked, I’m planning another (possibly less serious this time), My first was in memory of my sister and am keeping the rest of the arm free for things around it.
SnooHabits8484@reddit
She taught me, or at least made me learn, that you can be totally fine indefinitely without appreciation, affection or emotional validation from a partner. You can DIY all of it! Imagine the savings.
Illustrious-Milk6518@reddit
Lol sounds like my partner. He hates any form of affection
FrivolousMilkshake@reddit
Shit.
SnooHabits8484@reddit
Could be worse. Mustn’t grumble.
will0593@reddit
You should grumble. Maybe get another partner at some point
NeedCake707@reddit
I've never had a SO 😭😭😭

Whoever gets up first, makes a cup of tea and brings them back up to bed. Every morning.
It’s the most wonderful possible British start to the day ever. Life/ work/ kids sometimes shouldn’t make it possible, but we always find the time somehow and keeps us the best of friends too.

Slippers. Never worn a pair in my life before we were together. Once we moved in I tried hers when they were laying about and realised that they were really fucking comfy and warming. Now I have my own.
originalwombat@reddit
Trance and dance music! I love it now and never listened to it before I met him

The value of African ebony sculptures. I never new that they were worth quite a bit of money.
Chance-Bread-315@reddit
Piccalilli - I would never have considered trying the stuff but it can actually add a little something to a cheese sandwich!
Chrolan1988@reddit
Calling a dog lead a leader. Never before have I heard this.
Also, milk, bag sugar sits in the cup while water boilers than adds the hot water. That’s big no no for me but each to their own!
We just agree not to much each other hot drinks unless we are ill haha
